Who Was That At The End of Guardians of the Galaxy?

As with most Marvel films these days, there's usually a post-credits stinger that hints at more things to come. Guardians of the Galaxy did things a little differently.

Obviously, there will be spoilers.

Watch Video

I will have to save this video until after I see the movie.

It was his cocoon.

Really? I thought everyone had seen that Nostalgia Critic episode and knew who Howard was.

Well Bob, I'd certainly be up for a big picture episode on the vagaries of the Howard the Duck movie. You have a knack for making obscure ephemera really interesting, and I always love your film examinations.

It always makes me feel better when someone reads off a Wikipedia article to me

I...

Wait a minute. You've been a member since 2009? And you decided that THIS was the moment to finally post your first reply on the forums? After five years, you break your silence just to make a sarcastic put-down against a random video about Howard the Duck?

Damn. I'm actually kind of impressed.

Ok, that was actually quite a bit more interesting than I thought it would be. Was worried it was just going to amount to another regurgitation of a Wikipedia entry. And incidentally, I've actually read Howard the Duck MAX. It is one of the single weirdest comics I have ever read, and not in a particularly good way.

Well, yet another thing I have to miss out on since in Europe, we don't get the movie till august 28th...

I suppose that is the best he can get after the failure of that film of his.

I just assume the reason why they added him was another joke on the retro/ 80's thing due to Pete is kind of lost in time (it make me wonder how he will react to the musics he had missed if he return to Earth).

I haven't seen Guardians Of The Galaxy yet but I'm glad I'll see Howard The Duck in the after credits scene.

Now if only Nintendo could get over that Mario movie.

I was kinda curious about the Howard the Duck movie, but after those clips I'm going to admit I'm scared of what else you would show me in a full Big Picture about it.

I also need to actually go to a theatre and see GoG. I rare do, usually waiting for DVD, but this I gotta see.

Growing up, I mostly knew Howard because of the spoofs and shots Marvel took during and after the litigation incident. I still haven't seen the whole movie, in part because my brain starts to throttle itself in self defense when I try.

I know NC has a lot of fans, but I don't think his coverage is anywhere near that high.

Hmm... all of this actually puts a different spin on what he meant by "Ugh, that's gross. Why would you let him do that to you?"

I believe the nostalgia critic did an episode on Howard the Duck but i would like to see a movie bob take on the movie

Depends in which part of Europe you are, because I already seen it.

And Bob when I was little I liked the Howard the Duck movie.

You can chalk up my vote for an episode detailing the production of that Howard the Duck movie. I love stories about troubled productions.

Dear Bob,

Why, why, WHY did you have to include the DUCK SEX scenes from that movie?

*Whole body cringes.*

Talking about Howard the duck crossovers makes sad. Moviebob, could you do an episode on webcomics please?

Still gotta see Guardians, but MAN, Howard the flipping Duck?!
Never expected that!

And I thought the main female character of Dust: An Elysian Tail being naked in a furry world filled with clothed people was weird. What the hell was that bedroom scene? I kinda do want a The Big Picture episode on that film now.

When I went to see Guardians, about half the theatre stayed for the after-credits scene. Of the people who stayed, I'm fairly certain I was the only one who recognized Howard the Duck. That made me sad...

That's were I heard about him.

OT: I cracked up at the end of GotG, my brother did not, what i'm curious to know is what he said during the end credits scene.

Someone would be pissed apparently?

That better damn not be a 1-off, throw-away joke ending. That shit's canon, they better be making a Howard the Duck for wave 4.

I recognised Howard the Duck without having seen the film, and I found it funny...but then dreaded what could be due to having knowledge of the 1986 film and the fact that it's a freaking DUCK. I'm hoping he's just gonna be a supporting character and that he doesn't get a standalone film: I don't think I'd be able to persuade anyone to come and see a Howard the Duck film with me.

Yeah Bob. Don't bother devoting an episode to the Howard movie. Nostalgia Critic did that years ago when he was still worth watching. I think he pretty much said everything that's wrong with it better than anyone else.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks the Howard model at the end of Guardians looks uglier than the midget suit from the 90s movie?

Marty McFly's mother tried to have sex with a duck muppet.

Well.. Good. I guess.

"Who was that at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy?" ...Is that a trick question? Well, I guess Howard the Duck is fairly obscure by today's standards, despite there being a movie made out of him, and having the Nostalgia Critic review said movie. Not to mention, MovieBob's talked about him at least once before, specifically in his Top 10 things he'd like rebooted. Speaking of which, yes Bob, PLEASE, make a Big Picture episode about the Howard the Duck movie!!!

Also, fans have been saying you can see the "Cocoon" of Adam Warlock opened in the background of that final scene. Is that true?

Frankly they're both very off-putting, but the one in Guardians just looked really bad compared the beautiful CG in the rest of the movie. Like somebody slapped it together in the 11th hour just to get it done. I really hope it was just a one-time joke and we never see that abomination return. If I was going to flat out skip an MCU movie, it'd be Howard the Duck.

MB202:

I just listened to a podcast on Empire that featured James Gunn. He confirmed it was Adam Warlock's cocoon.

If he decides to move ahead with it, all he'll have to do is just change the vocal track on this because he already put in a full shows worth of clips.

Nice! :D

...Wonder if that will come into play in Guardians of the Galaxy 2...

I think that Howard the Duck thing was Marvel taking a stab at DC. It basically shows the contrast between Marvel and DC's filmverse.

MArvel seems to be willing and able to grasp the wackier, colourful less serious side of their world while DC is trying to be all grey, brown, dark, gritty, serious. I mean look at Wonderwoman's costume I mean I still can't decide if that's genuine of if someone accidently hit the 'desaturate' button in Photoshop.

Heck the existance of ROcket Racoon in a major film is enough. FOr DC to match that they'd have to have to basically bring in Ace the Bathoud or Myxlpklx

+1 the Howard The Duck episode.

Your analysis/insight into schlocky/too weird movies is always welcome, especially for Howard, considering it would barely pass for a B movie >.>
