8 MMOs You Really Should Be Playing

In this day and age there are more MMOs than there are people. So we're here to wade through all of the BS and give you the heads up on some MMOs that don't get the attention that they deserve. So get ready for grinding your way through unfamiliar territory.

Utter BS that Firefall ain't on this list!
It's better than Destiny in EVERY respect (even 100% free and not whining about money ever).
Even Yahtzee liked it!

A suggestion for the future: If you're going to pull together a list of games like this, it would be nice if you'd include a least a cursory bit of information for prospective players: At bare minimum a buy-in cost, any monthly fees, and a link to the appropriate website would be nice. Yeah, I can Google all that information, but if you're putting together an article anyways, it seems like reasonable information to include.

I think the idea was to grab more obscure MMOs. Firefall is in that same category as Path of Exile where I think most people have already at least heard about it.

Ew, half of those things are pay 2 win garbage. I don't mean like oh theysell xp boosts and stuff. I mean like literally selling martial arts sets(Wushu) or powerful items to upgrade gear that don't drop otherwise.

Most of this list should be relabeled "MMo's you shouldn't play because it's supporting developers who would make even EA question the ethics"

So the monetization systems aren't factored into your decisions about what people should play, right? People, don't play these.

Really, I should be playing all of these? I ain't got the time or money for 8 MMOs. I think I'll stick with FFXIV:ARR for the time being.

P.S. Thanks

I was surprised Wizard's 101 wasn't number 8. I keep expecting Skittler to be trolling us.

I haven't been called Skittler since grade school, thank you for the unexpected trip down memory lane.

Pick one.
We really don't have time to invest in 8 obscure MMOs.

Your welcome. Thank you for the daily galleries.

Well that was underwhelming. no useful info in that list whatsoever. If you want people to check out a games list it would be a really good idea to actually describe the game play and costs. This list was just plain lazy :(

Only MMO I want and I'll ever need is WoW...I've been playing that for over 10 years with no chance of stopping in sight. I took a break in summer because there's nothing to do but once expansion hits I'm jumping right back in!

This is great, I might jump into one of those soon to have a bit of a diversion once I've read up on them.

I assume that most here have tried World of Warcraft, but just the same I'll write a bit here.
(First off, I'm 30 years old, I've been a hardcore gamer for most of my life and played/tried many MMO's out there. I've have been on the train since EverQuest and MMO's will likely always be something I indulge myself in. This is just to give my "credentials".)

WoW is one of the best games that I have ever played and it is absolutely a marvel how polished it is now. The sheer amount of content, lore, gameplay and challenges in it is enough to keep someone invested in it for a very long time. The replayability is also very high, considering the parallel zones to level in as well as the different playstyles you'll find between most classes.
To this day, as someone who's played since closed beta, I still haven't leveled an alliance character, which has access to about as many unique quests as the other side. When I do make one and stick with it, I'll have so much more to do and I love the lore in all of it.

It is also one of the worst, or rather most prominent, examples of mainstream gaming and how design needs to go in a different direction again in general. However, players who seek advantages in such games are already well aware of this, so my recommendation is to people who are looking to spend some time just for fun. (Personally, the mainstreaming of classes are the core reason that this game has partly gone to the shitter, but it applies to top-tier raiding, not so much the average player who will never raid at all.)

For 20 bucks and the subscription fee, you get the full game and 3 expansions (out of currently 4, 5 in November). The sheer amount of quests available to you to explore and have fun with is far larger than most singleplayer campaigns today.
The subscription isn't cheap if you don't have a steady income and it's an old business model. This might be the biggest reason not to play and it's a valid concern. 20 bucks for a month of playtime though? How many other games have had that same value in your library?
(Note that you might be required to give your credit card details to play for that month, but no further payment required for the 30 day "free" time. You can also play the game on a trial, I haven't tried it, but it's very limited as far as I've understood.)

The negative side is that the first expansion you hit shows an alarming lack of quality, since the 1-60 experience was revamped with Cataclysm (3rd expansion) and it's littered with the dreaded "collect ten of this or that" type of quests. Before and after that, the quality goes up sharply and the quest objectives vary a lot.

I'm not on the RP servers anymore so I can't speak for their consistency anymore, but you used to be able to find others to play with consistently without hurrying through content just to level, along with some fun roleplay.

I am biased about this game, maybe obviously so, maybe because Warcraft is now 20 years old and I grew up with all of it or maybe because I've found two romantic relationships through it and some very good friends across the whole world that I see almost every year.
No matter what though, despite the ups and downs I truly love this game and I'm grateful for the experiences I've had with it.

If other WoW players have something to add, please do so.

Gonna reject "Fallen Earth". The game is PAINFULLY slow at the start. Which is something you don't want to happen. You want to slow them down later after they've gained a liking to the game and settled into a pattern. Combat was very very clunky, same with the skills/traits/whatever they used.

But I tried it one summer what..2-3 years ago? Maybe they changed things. At the very least, it has Free to play going for it(unsure if it's pay to win/pay to advance). So yeah, probably skip that title.

No Guild Wars 2? This list is incomplete.

Really? 8 screenshots with a couple of lines describing the genre of MMO, but absolutely nothing about actual gameplay or pay2win-ness?

Lazy.

So much Pay2Win here being promoted. Not a lot of genuinely good choices. They are fine on paper, but I wouldn't promote these to anyone given the amount of cash shop pushing that gets involved. Most of these are just budget versions of already existing quality games. These games already get the attention they deserve. None.

only one there I'd even think about recommending is Elsword, it gets REALLY grindy around the mid 40s but its not a bad game.

Dragons Nest is a BAD and worse, boring, Vindictus knock off, and Raiderz is under PWE's banner, and PWE is pretty much EA on steroids. All the things you hate, magnified.

Dafuq is this shit. Half of these look exactly like WoW. Exactly.
For fuck's sakes, Allods Online goes so far as to use the exact same interface and even fonts as WoW. How can you be recommending this garbage?
