Batman Vs. Robin Review: DC Shows Off Its Big Boy Pants

Batman Vs. Robin is a solid animated flick that keeps trying to prove how dark and mature it is.

I think I'll pass. The only DC film that really stood out to me was Under the Red Hood. That one was pretty grim without the need to swear and gore people. And the best post Hamill Joker.

So... Can I still watch this without seeing Son of Batman?

Other than that, adding an "I'm the goddamn Batman" line would have probably been too humorous to be taken seriously, anyway...

Jesus DC, what happened to your animated movies? Pretty much everything after Flashpoint has been pretty awful. The only thing I found even remotely enjoyable has been Assault and Arkham and even that had its fair share of problems. If they keep it as this rate they might end up as bad as Marvel's animated crap.

I don't think they've necessarily been bad, but I do wish they'd branch out a bit more. I was really excited for the new universe after Justice League: War because of what it could mean for the DCAU. I would dig the hell out of a Cyborg centric movie, and Green Lantern really needed a movie to redeem his complete uselessness in War, plus a Shazam movie would have been greatly welcome and a chance at what could have been a really excitin Wonder Woman movie.

What did we get instead? 3 Batman movies and an ensemble movie. We haven't even gotten a Superman movie and I could dig a Superman movie usin the post flashpoint movie Superman. Our next movie will again be an ensemble movie.

I'm mostly sad about the complete loss of the old style DC animated movies. Now everythin has to be a part of the main movie continuity.

I know I might get a lot of flack for this, but I think the new DCAU problem is that they're way too much like anime. All the uber detail, the hair, the faces? They all look anime inspired. If you want to see anime-like animation done right, look at Avatar.

The movie gets kudos for some fight scenes. Still not as good as the old, and they are pretty choppy as well. Interesting to see that they actually used real martial arts this time. The story? Bleh. I can't believe they butchered it so much. And as everyone has said, the "maturity" of the movie just makes me roll my eyes. And the glorification of that stupid little brat? Holy shit, it's like they love him even more than Batman. He beats literally every single opponent he meets, and defies even comic book physics to do it, It's weird, they want to be all grown up and gritty, yet the main character of their movies is a 10 year old boy? You should know by now DC that choosing the middle ground doesn't work.

But the worst of all? The voice acting. That's what makes any animated movie stand out, the voice acting. The voice acting in the new DCAU movies are some of the worst, if not the worst, I have ever seen. I mean, heard. As much as I want it to be so, Kevin Conroy can't voice every Batman incarnation. But at least choose someone good! Whoever the voice actor of Bats sounds like a teenager who is slightly out of puberty and has sandpaper instead of lungs. The same goes for Robin's voice. And Nighwing sounds like an utter douche. The only good voice actor here is Alfred's.

And why, why, do they not mention Red Robin, Tim Drake? He was the foil to Damian. So many missed opportunities... They teased Starfire and Batwoman for fuck's sake!

DC is taking itself to seriously now a days. I remember watching this movie, especially reminding me of what happens-

Like how Bruce Wayne's girlfriend awkwardly references sex in casual conversation.

I don't know about you, but if I was drugged ... raped (even by a beautiful woman) and she got pregnant, along with the fact she kept my son in secret until one day revealing to me I was a father ................. Ummmmmmhhh .............. i'd be literally enraged.

Because that's disgusting and vile. Imagine if Batman was Batwoman .... some guy came into her life, drugged her- raped her, got HER pregnant and took the baby without her permission, only to come back years later with said son / daughter being a raised killer. I could feel the bloodlust from the audience just thinking about it. I'm not even upset this was introduced for it's dark / twisting ... but it rather deeply annoys me how Batman simply goes 'Mmmm k' about it. That's not realistic DC, come on guys.

Everything else was 'too edgy 4 me' concepts and they don't know how to have fun like Marvel does.
At least now a days. Back then, it was clever, edgy but fun.

Now it's GGR DARK, EDGY AND FULL OF GGRRRR REALISM GGRRR HARDCORE!! Yea.

No body bought Superman vs the Elite or Superman unbound so WB won't finance more Superman standalone films, it's a business remember.

But then, Superman vs the Elite was just ridiculous.

I like it; and I really liked Superman: Unbound too. Though I'm pretty easy to please since the biggest complaints I have about JL: War were that most of the heroes were a little 'too cool for school' if you get me, and Wonder Woman's line about Superman at the end which I assume was meant to sound admiring sounds just sounds.....fucking ludicrous.

I found it to be a big a snooze fest. The court of the owls was really lackluster. I feel like they could have been way more interesting. Additionally the main villain anti-batman was intriguing but they didn't bother to flesh him out. Now I'm sure its possible all this is done in the books but if you have to cut out everything interesting in a story to meet run time you might as well invest in a league of extraordinary gentlemen sequel because thats the quality of film you're giving us.

On top of all that yes, to me, Damian is excruciating to watch on screen. He's a giant turd and sadly he was gone right about the time Grant Morrison made him really likable. Seriously Grants Batman&Robin run was excellent you should go check it out if you haven't.

Which is a shame because Superman VS the Elite was fuckin fantastic. Superman Unbound not so much. Felt kind of like a extended Braniac episode from the old Superman cartoon series. Nothin wrong with that, but it wasn't spectacular.

So... How about a Sinestro Corps. War movie?

Superman Vs The Elite? Fantastic? Ehhhhh...

It was nonsensical even as far as all-powerful men in tights go. It had plot-holes the size of ocean liners and generally did a piss-poor job of justifying Superman's "no-kill" rule. I'd rather they tackled a different subject, the whole "heroes struggling with killing" dilemma is really played out by this point. If I see one more story where superheroes not killing a guy who everyone thinks deserves it is the subject matter, I'll go insane.

Why not? The Green Lantern movies weren't bad, yeah. Amazing, actually.
