Yeah, she's wearing a maid outfit. That tells me everything I need to know right there.

Eck, creepy is an understatement. The only thing I can think of is how long until we get the hentai expansion pack where:

A. she (eventually) throws herself on the player
B. The player is instructed to grope and molest her
C. a portal to another dimension opens up where swarm of tentacles burst through and have their way with her.

Trust me, it's not that farfetched.

Jesus, you don't want to stare at a teenage girls underwear? I can't stand your prudish American culture. There was probably a groping mechanic, and tentacle porn rape hentai in the game, but they had to take it out because of prudish American audiences. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch Serbian Film with mah pants down.

Just grubby. I'd hate to meet the sort of person who is "into" this game.

The Rogue Wolf:
Yeah, she's wearing a maid outfit. That tells me everything I need to know right there.

I think that's her work outfit. She works in a maid cafe or something like that.

i bet she also moonlights as a nurse

Hey, how's it goin? I'm TheRundownRabbit, and I am just pleased as punch to tell you I am into this game!

That doesn't change the fact that it's a fetish costume. In fact it confirms it.

Who am I to judge, though? Jail bait simulator 2016 does look pretty well made.

Ya know if this was just a straight H game I'd be into it too. But the fact that they fetishize her than make her act uncomfortable if you try to do anything lewd. If she was into it I wouldn't feel like such a creeper, but as it is this just seems like creepy old man simulator.

I suppose it's not a surprise that a "romance" sim would be among the first to hit, but did they really have to make her a teenage schoolgirl? Was that really necessary? I miss the Milo sim.

Whatever mows your lawn. This game looks like a "getting on the register" simulator.

Eh, it's VR. It's a gimmick that's gonna die out soon.

RaikuFA:

Pretty sure it's here to stay this time

And slightly OT, why has no one mentioned that it's Senpai, not Sempai?

Hurray for values dissonance.

I mean, I'm sure there are things that we do that creep out the Japanese.

The fact you need to update your PC to the highest specs to use it and keep it updated as much as possible, it's gonna tire people out and just make them go "it's not worth it".

My B! Missed that one

Age of consent in Japan is 13. So to them, that's all not actually all that creepy to them. And since those kinds of games are mostly made for the home market, I wouldn't bet on them to care all that much what the rest of the world thinks.

Also, these games actually very rarely cross over into porn, so whoever suggests that it's not farfetched doesn't know what they are talking about. This is essentially VR LovePlus from the looks of it. You'd be surprised how tame that game's content is.

It's quite fascinating to see which arguably anti-social behaviours are deemed acceptable [in videogames] and which aren't.

Also after reading some of the statements in the article such as:

article:
When Hikari talks to you, her breasts are exactly at eye-level, and she puffs her chest out quite a bit. At one point she bends over right next to you to pick up a pencil, giving you clear view of her panties.

It reminds me of a quote from Spec ops: The line

The truth is that you're here because you wanted to feel like something you're not. None of this would've happened if you'd just stopped

You could just have her be in college. Seems like a pretty simple solution, though she would probably have to drop the uniform... I don't know, do Japanese colleges have uniforms?

But that would be making the game for the North American market, which they most definitely aren't.

However, shit like this(IRL, digital is, as always, fine) is still super illegal in Japan. The age of consent is technically 13, but there's a whole host of other laws regulating underage relationships. This whole host of laws is part of the reason why I think Japan has a low birthrate problem, but that's just me.

Davroth:

so the only thing that makes something wrong is because the law says so. If their was no age of consent in your country you would have no problem with middle aged men having sex with children?

Kindly point out where I say anything to that effect. Don't strawman me, please, thank you.

Edit: Many in this thread seem to make the mistake to think that when you tutor someone, there has to be a big age difference, which is not really the case. In these kinds clich? situations, more often then not, you get tutored by your senior, who's one year above you in your own school, or even in the same grade.

well in the actual part I quoted you said "Age of consent in Japan is 13. So to them, that's all not actually all that creepy to them." implying that because the law (age of consent) wasn't broken, people where that law applies (Japan) don't think it's creepy.

So my argument was, if the law where you are was that their is no age of consent than by your logic you would not be creeped out by people abiding by that law (or lack there of) because you are a person living in where that law applies.

You are pretty culturally insensitive, you know that? They blatantly don't consider it creepy or inappropriate as demonstrated by huge corporation Sony making it one of their flagship titles for the rollout of their VR headset. Pretty self explanatory I think.

And seeing how we are talking about a work of fiction which contain absolutely zero sexual content, your point is a strawman against the game and Japanese culture to begin with. A culture, I might add, you seem to have no knowledge of, judging by your line of arguing.

And what exactly am I arguing? Because by the sound of it what you think I am saying and what I am actually saying are two different things entirely.

I never once said anything disparaging about anyone who would enjoy this game. just because I would personally find it creepy does not mean that I am insulting anyone who would not find it creepy. People can have different opinions and that's fine by me.

In fact in my original post responding to you I put no opinions forth at all about the game or people who would like it. my one and only point was that saying people agree with something just because that's the law seems flawed. Hence why I made an example where the law was different but I doubt people would be OK with it.

You're now putting forth a different line of reasoning saying that a large corporation would not put out a product that would conflict with the morals of the customer base. Which is a better argument and one I don't want to debate.

To point, I never said anything was WRONG with the age of consent being 13 in Japan.

Yeah, there's nothing about that that implies that /you/ are considering it creepy at all. Very funny. Matter of fact you call the game creepy just a little above. My argument has not change one bit, by the way. Compare:

Davroth:

It's very obvious you consider it creepy, otherwise you wouldn't have bothered to try and make that argument in the first place.

Yes "I" find it creepy. What does that matter? Like I said before just because I believe something does not mean I am judging others who believe differently.

My argument was about logic. Plain and simple. Just because YOU are reading more into it isn't my fault. The point of the post was to point out an error in logic. Not to say that they are wrong for believing what they do.

Again, the one and ONLY thing I said is that just because something is OK by the law doesn't mean people think that it is morally OK.

YOU are the one that want's to make it mean more than that, not me. Ironic that you talk of strawmen arguments.

I didn't make an error in logic, at least not the one you were calling me out on, hence why you were strawmanning my post. The age of consent is 13 in Japan. Fact. The game is produced for the home market primarily. Fact. Hence the Japanese don't seem to think it's creepy, which is literally all that matters when it comes to who's sensibilities it appeals to.

You also presume an age difference in the first place. What do you base that on, anyway? Private tutors can be any age, including an 'appropriate' age range.

You do realize that the schoolgirl outfit itself is a fetish costume, right? As in, if you go to a love hotel in Japan there's a tv with a gamepad attatched and you can order schoolgirl clothes for your partner to wear during the encounter. That levels of commonplace.

I am just amused that the reviewer is getting all hot and bothered by a game that has zero actual sexual content.

If the reviewer is getting turned on, that is not the game's problem. The girl is keeping all her clothes on, you have a job to do, and any personal desires you might arise is your own imagination. I say this game review tells us more about the reviewer than it tells us about the game.
