8 Great FPS Games to Look Forward to in 2017

This year promises to be a great one for FPS players!

Here are eight games we'll get to enjoy in 2017!

Uh, yeah, the formatting broke at one point.

Battlefront 2 came out many years ago, either change the title or stop listing it.

That said I really do need to play more FPS games, most of my steam library is strategy games and I like the excitement an FPS offers. Guess it's why I've been playing a lot of Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel lately.

2 things:

-Numbers 4 and 5 are missing their formatting, and their text.
-2 games on the list arent FPS' for as far as I am aware.

That spiritual succesor to Decent though, might want it once I have a new PC.

Battalion 1944 looks more and more like Day of Defeat every time I see it, this makes me deliriously happy.

Why Valve persisted with Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2 but allowed Day of Defeat to tail off I will never know.

The other things I take from this is that only 6 First Person Shooters worth talking about are coming up this year, Prey had better be awesome.

You have a list of fps games to look forward to and dont have Strafe on it? What the hell dude?

And instead they have Mass Effect: Andromeda... which isn't even an FPS in the first place!

And come to think of it, isnt ghost recon a 3rd person shooter also?

Yes it is, though technically there's an ability to go into first person when aiming. If it was pure first-person I might actually consider getting it.

1) Almost certainly won't play it, but I think it looks interesting.

2) Haven't heard of.

3) No, unless it has a very solid singleplayer

4) No (also, your entry for this one is glitched or something)

5) Eh, kinda

6) Same as Farpoint - doubt I'll play it, but as someone who loved Battlefield 1942, glad it exists

7) No, and isn't this a TPS?

8) This isn't an FPS. It isn't even a TPS. It's an RPG with TPS elements.

...but yes, I am kinda looking forward to it.

The first two, unless I'm missing something here, just look like glorified tech demos.

Damn, hadn't that game on my radar ... until now! Looks great and tongue in cheek!

The STRAFE® team is NOT RESPONSIBLE for any injury or temporary loss of sanity while playing STRAFE®

Which clearly shows again: Comments are soooo important to "news" articles!

Erm, sorry to be that guy, but Battlefront 2 and Wildlands are 3rd person shooters.

Are these listicles now being automated by an easily confused AI?

Yeah, for some reason these lists tend to just have rather big names and ignore lesser known titles and usually better looking ones too.

In which way, shape or form is Mass Effect: Andromeda an FPS? I can make a better listicle in my sleep.

The game play might be on point, but the more I look at Quake, the more.... disappointed I am with it given how Doom rocked our collective faces.

They always wanted it as a darker, edgier older brother to Doom's "Lulz demons from hell, brah". The First Quake was sitting in its smoking jacket and reading the wall street journal going "Quaint. We have Eldritch Gods."

But nope. They decide to revamp the now campy looking 90's Quake arena aesthetic. And it really doesn't work.

Not gonna lie. I'm super excited for Quake: Champions and Prey.

Why Valve persisted with Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2 but allowed Day of Defeat to tail off I will never know.

They had their reasons, including a loss of interest from the community in WWII based shooters, but it doesn't mean we have to like it...

Nah. There are others. I'm not sure why they limited the list to six.

Dusk is a notable one. Looks like a true homage to the Quakes, Dooms, and Heretic/Hexens of years past. Far more than Strafe does, anyway.

Granted, it wears its inspirations on its sleeve, but still.

Prey had better be awesome.

Gods, I hope so.

Better question: Why the hell didn't he include Dusk?!

The Super Best Friends crew did a first look of sorts here - http://store.steampowered.com/app/519860/

See above.

I would love to know what the real reasons were. Day of Defeat Source sold pretty well and had large payer base for a good six years after, a thousand-ish people are still playing it now twelve years after release. Although it somehow manages to be even less noob friendly than Counter Strike, which might have something to do with it.

I suspect it was dropped because nobody could think of a good way to monetise it. I would love a new version to come out with the original DoD factions and weapons, but that seems to be slim hope.

SERIOUS SAM 4! Why is that not on the list but Battlecrap 2 is?

Of all of these, Prey has me the most excited. I loved it on the 360 and being an old guy, it had a gameplay style that suited me. I hope this one is similar in that way (can't really die, lots of fun puzzles).

I'd be more interested in Mass Effect but I haven't finished 2 and 3 yet! Shame on me.

Quake Champions.

I do wish more people were into that one Quake Territories game or whatever it was called. Whatever indeed, as it just kind of passed into the night.

Near as I can tell, the only thing the new Prey has in common with the original Prey, is that they're both FPS. The reboot mostly seems to take its cues from System/BioShock, Deux Ex and/or Dishonored.

Of course, you've you enjoy those, that's not really a problem and you'll likely enjoy Prey 2017 too, assuming it doesn't turn out a hot pile of garbage.

Unfortunate. Of those you mention, Bioshock Infinite is a favorite of mine. As much as I suck at FPS (typically really need cheat codes) that was playable. Sounds like the new Prey will be a total crap shoot. Either it will be something I like or it won't be: the 1st one will not help me judge.

This entire list was terrible, none of them I would consider "Great games" to even deserve that title. I'd actually say who every wrote this needs to retake creative writing.

1: Farpoint
Looks like one of those gimmick games that would last for a few hours and then ends abruptly.

2: Overload
What is this? This looks boring! It looks like a game on xbox live arcade! The music is meh, the sound design is also meh, and the gameplay looks boring.

3: Battlefront 4
The first one was garbage, this immediately places it into the "Not guaranteed to be great, or even good" category, and therefore should be off this list.

4: Quake:Champions
Its an arena shooter, likely has no campaign, will die out like its predecessors. I never got the hype everyone had for Quake or Unreal Tournament, I played the games, they were all subpar or average shooters, with nothing worth talking about other than Quake being a marvel of its time.

5: Prey 2
The game hasn't come out for nearly a decade, I won't be surprised if it doesn't come out at all. Its Duke Nukem Forever all over again. I played the original Prey and there was... NOTHING ABOUT IT that was remotely compelling, everyone dies, the ship keeps going, and its gameplay was barely average. We know next to nothing about this game, its not great, its unknown, something to talk about. Stop twisting words!

6: Battalion 1944
Gameplay looks good, probably can't play it, don't know why its considered "Great" it hasn't even come out yet and it has some stiff competition. Likely will be a middling success and recoup it money.

7: Ghost Recon:Wildlands
Waste of fucking money, that same money could have been used to provide the education and food to hundreds of children in Bolivia. Made by Ubisoft so its going to be average at best.

8: Mass Effect Andromeda
..... Its not even a first person shooter, let alone a goddamn TPS if you think about it. Also after ME 3 we have no guarantee this game will be "Great" or even acceptable.

Pretty hilarious satire right here. Loved that you listed the best game on the list as "boring" - also stylizing PREY as Prey 2 and implying it's even remotely related to the 2006 game, and also alluding to the original game's troubled development (which was, in fact, very similar to DNF) - very nice touch, A+
