Ban Jumpers and You - Don't Accuse, Report - RULE CLARIFICATION AND UPDATE

Hello, all.

There's been a rash of accusations of users being "ban-jumpers" of late. In the interests of clarity and consistency, I wanted to address these here, where everyone can see it. Yes, we want reports of these issues. No, we do not want people posting accusations and theories in the forums.

First, we take ban jumping seriously, and we encourage you to report the users that you believe are engaged in this activity. To report this issue properly, please open a ticket and select "Report Inappropriate Content" from the dropdown. In your ticket, you should include links or evidence that you feel reinforces your claim.

Please note that you will not receive a report on what action was taken, if any, as for privacy reasons we only discuss account actions with the owner of the account in question.

Once you've reported it, LET IT GO. Posting claims that another user is a ban jumper will henceforth be likely to garner you an account action under either of these two sections of our Code of Conduct:

Calling people names (or groups who may visit The Escapist), this includes calling others a troll. Calling another user a troll is always an infraction.

Posting inflammatory, extraneous or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

In short, treat it like we've asked you to treat posts that break the rules: Report and move on. Do not engage, and do not post accusations. Our tech team is able to investigate these matters thoroughly, and will take action when it is warranted. Send them the info in the manner described above, and move on.
