Wii MotionPlus Too Sensitive?

image

The Wii MotionPlus, which significantly increases the sensitivity of the Wii's motion controls, may work a little too well according to an EA Developer.

Speaking to Tech Radar, Thomas Singleton, prodicer for EA's Grand Slam Tennis on the Wii said that the add-on was so effective that it actually was 'overly responsive at times.' Grand Slam Tennis, along with the Wii version of Tiger Woods 2010 can make use of the MotionPlus, despite the add-on not being available at the moment.

"It truly is giving you that one-to-one control movement of your arm motion and then mapping it directly to that one-to-one movement of your character on screen," said Singleton, "at times it's overly responsive. It had so much fidelity that at times we have limited that fidelity to make it a compelling experience and giving you full total control."

A release date for the add-on has yet to be announced, but it sounds like it could use some fine tuning before the general public gets its hands on it.

I agree, the motion plus is far too sensetive, my Wii can't even function with it.

I think this is a good thing - developers can scale back the sensitivity (dead zones and the like) during play testing/patches.

Too sensitive means it can be dialled back in game. Not sensitive enough means they failed again. It's good to see them clear the bar this time, hopefully the overall quality of the games will be next...

So, we're back at square one?

Before, if you flicked the controller around, it would either A)Not register or B)Do a move that you didn't want to do.

Now, if you flick the controller around it will either A)Not register because you didn't do it exactly right or B)Do something completely different because the motion was slightly different.

Irony?

Don't worry, 18months from now Wii turgid+ will be released for a reasonable price, reducing the sensitivy of your motion plus to allow greater precsion!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't calibrating controllers been around for forever?
My mouse must also be too sensitive going by his logic, because I have to dial back on in-game sensitivity to be able to use it properly.
I'm not sure if his statement was meant as something positive or negative about the MotionPlus, but it just makes it sound like they had no idea what they were doing. :)

Does anyone actually try out this stuff b4 they sell it

but wii sucks so who cares?

nice, I laughed pretty good reading this.

I can't use the Wii controller cause I have nerve damage in my arm and it wont stay steady.

How so? They adjusted it in their software to whatever they needed, sounds like the hardware is working fine for them. Better to have it more sensitive and allow devs to dampen it if desired than to have it be inaccurate and miss movements the dev might want. Also from what that guy said they're using gesture input, not 1:1 so maybe that affects his statement as well.

Look at the statistics my friend, then say the Wii sucks.

Uhhhhh, over sensitivty was my problem to begin with.

I bet that's why it got dumped by it's girl friend.

Remember, this is EA we're talking about. They're generally too inept to handle anything over an Atari 2600 controller.

Well, at least the MotionPlus does what it's supposed to, right? Just add an option where the user can adjust the sensitivity in game, and the problem's solved.

<( ' . ' )>

Hey, what's a prodicer?

Well, in most situations I have a saying. Better too much than not enough.

Do you honestly believe that something so successful is that bad? Or are you just trolling?

just because something is a success doesn't mean it can't suck. I mean a ton of people hate halo and it is apparently good. I'm undecided because i don't have a xbox, but yeah.

Wii has bad games, and before you spout the name of probably 3 good games, think about 10 games that aren't ported from old systems that are wii-tastic (games that came out on the wii at the same time as 360 and ps3 are ok)

Butttt i suppose i MIGHT be trolling a little bit

If you look on the Wii-Store, you'd find a lot of the old classics on there. What, in your opinion makes it suck? (I'll PM you this too, just in case you wanna talk about it in-depth and not clutter the thread up)

And just a TINY bit of trolling?

Yay! an add on to make something do what it was supposed to do in the first place.

Hey, at least you can admit it. That's the first step towards recovery.

heh, NO RECOVERY NEEDED, I'M PERFECTLY FINE ARGEH!

Well i've got a hands who always shake a lil'bit because i've got a condition called HMSN1 (I don't know the English name) (don't worry it's not gonna kill me, or put me in a wheelchair)but when I wii you allways see my cursor shake. Kinda embarassing.

That's probably why his Wii can't handle it XD

I have never had problems with the sensitivity of my Wii remote, so you all just seem to be a bit 'tarded or I must just be super awesome. I like the latter idea better ;D Why fix something that is not already broke?
