Profound? I'm not sure to what extent you're joking here... Erm, not sure about that, but then I'm not a fan of FFVII. That said, it's a very pretty film, and not a bad story, though nothing amazing. So probably the demo selling units there. Though I'm not going to expect anything interesting...maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, maybe not.
*dies laughing* | |
I've gotta get FFVIIACC, it's an adapted version of FFVIIAC. How much extra time is on Complete?
I wish they'd just let FF7 die. AC had some really pretty action sequences, but nothing else.
I've been waiting years for someone to say that, at last someone who agrees with me!
Well someone is a fan id say. Funny this should come up since my roomie being the big fanboy that he is actually bought advent children last night and almost forced me to watch it, funny thing is i dont think he really cares much for the games which makes his devotion all the stranger. Oh and youre making this sound like the shawshank redemption here, its a game movie!
Try watching it in a room full of drooling FFVII fanboys... it's pretty unpleasant. I enjoy the action, but the fact that they could fly? Seriously? Too much DBZ there... The only fight scene I really liked was the Tifa In the Church one, very cool.
Saw this coming. You attach a demo for a FF game to another object, and people will buy it. I do believe a demo for 12 came with Dragon Quest 8...but at least DQ8 was great on its own merits. Unlike this movie.
Half an hour onto the movie, and then some extra separate content.
*Cough* Low Gravity *Cough* That explains most FFIV things.
Trust me there are more of us that wishes Final Fantasy 7 or any other previous FF to stay dead than you think. It really does show a divide in those who got into gaming during the Playstation generation because of how much of a rabid fanbase there still is and to me it is quite sad. It was a good game and there were characters I loved as well like Tifa Lockheart but people who were entranced by that game just do not know how to move on and enjoy the rest of the franchise or other games. This constant "update" or "revival" talks just comes from nostalgia tinted glasses and while the intentions there can only be sorrow from doing so. Just think about what they would actually have to do to that one game and how much it would change just to be brought to today's moral and politically correct world. Also you would have to move it across the pond from Japan and apply western standards, or what if the director wanted to change the story or the company or the shareholders, or the publisher. The only thing these rabid fans would get is sorrow and tragedy and should be ignored. Remember the good times you had and how much that game got you involved into video games because you liked the pretty pictures and movies seeing a female video game character die where plenty of other video game heroes have fallen before Aeris.
FFVII represents a big change in the FF universe, mainly it being 3D and moving to PS. It was a good game, but I really do prefer VI to seven, especially because you don't have so many anime cliches. Actually, that is probably another reason why FFVII was so big, the story follows a fairly standard anime plot, and anime was getting more well known at the time.
Ugh, they couldn't even get the DBZ formula right. After watching Cloud do a triple somersault over a motorcycle while adjusting swords and blocking bullets, something just snapped in me. The heroes can't get hurt, the villains can't get hurt, and after a while it doesn't even make sense for them to be fighting because they never land a single punch. At least in DBZ people get beaten up or die.
\ All things considered DQ8 is arguably a better game than FFXII... But I would buy Advent Children to get an FFXIII demo, unless they were charging extortion prices for it.
I actually think it is superior to FF12 (yeah, fuck the roman numerals, it takes longer), too. But I'm saying that its better to get a demo with something good, then it is to get a demo with something bad.
Square you had better put that bloody demo out in the UK *glares*.
Not surprised here. The games have lost a little bit of their charm for an odd reason as far as I'm concerned - the departure of Nobuo Uematsu left a void in the musical feel of the series that 12 didn't really fill for me. Like someone else in the thread, I think VI is the pinnacle of the series, not VII. I really think VII's appeal was in the change of format along with characters that fit so many stereotypical anime personalities. I didn't particularly care for it too much myself, and Xenogears, which came out around the same time, blew it totally away for me. Still, I've played every FF and will definitely play XIII. I just think that the buzz for the games has decreased with every title. It may have been why they delayed this along with all the other reasons - starve out the FF fans, and they'll be hungry for a sequel.
Most of the team left. This include the series creator Sakaguchi (Don't know if I spelled the name right).
That's all it's ever been, though. I always thought that this was kind of unspoken, but understood. You only watch FFVII:AC for the action, not for story (and to hear the characters with voices).
There's people that don't like FF7, I thought that was illegal. Anyway, I'm a big ff7 fandude and I only wonder why they didn't figure out before now that a ff7 movie would be popular when they were making the classic that is 'spirits within', argh, missed opportunities!
Proof positive that if an FF7 movie with a bonus new FF demo can push sales of the PS3 console, an FF7 remake would skyrocket sales to the moon and beyond.
Well this isn't the least bit surprising. Massive fan service + demo for upcoming game that millions are dying tom play = *the sound of a million cash registers going off at once* I hope you were joking when you were saying AC was a cinematic masterpiece...guh. The visuals and animation were awesome, but the story was shallow and almost irrelevant. FF7 didn't need a sequel, the ending of the game was great...then they created a pretty but necessary movie follow up. Oh well hope the extra footage actualy makes the story a bit more relevant. Thus Far Crisis Core is the only good and worthy thing to come out of this compilation.
*dies beside Anachronism* FFVII should die, as Funk said. I can't believe Square can still milk that cow after more than 10 years. That's got to be a world record or something.
I remember the same thing happening with Crackdown when they included a Halo 3 beta key. If done right, the combination of products can be a really good money-spinner and a great way to keep an upcoming release in the forefront of the consumer's thinking.
AC was never really more than a fan-film, only meant for people obsessive about that game to drool endlessly over.
Have we forgotten how long Mario and Link have been around? Square still milks it because it's one of the most popular games they ever created. A lot of people are eager to snatch up anything related to FF7. I'd milk it too...
AHA!!! The thing with Mario and Link is that, even if they're redundant characters, they appear in different games. The FF7 cast appeared in one game (barring spinoffs and cross-overs), but those games only went on sale because they were riding the original's popularity. Still, SE should get a world record for milking ONE game in a whole franchise for more than 10 years.
You have a point there. It makes me wonder just why in the world Square HASN'T made a re-make yet. It would be the ultimate way to milk the same ten year old game. Plus, they'd probably be swimming in cash for years because of it. The game may need to die...but I doubt it ever will.
Y'know what? I may be going against the grain here, but I honestly would buy a re-make of FFVII. Sure, Advent Children was ludicrous in its action sequences, and FFVII changed the series with its long summons, animé clichés and more, but... I was eight when I first played it. It was the first RPG, or story-heavy game like that I played. It's an incredibly important part of my childhood - the story and its characters are critical to me. Sure, I didn't buy Dirge of Cerberus or Crisis Core, but I've watched Last Order and Advent Children, and despite their flaws I still love them. It becomes harder and harder each time I go back to re-play the original, because the flaws - the minor translation errors, the awkward 3D characters - are standing out against modern graphics. A full remake, with up-to-date graphics and a refined translation would solve all this and create a form that could visually mesmerise me like it did when I was eight. The audio, cutscenes and story still take my breath away, but it's starting to wear thin. Back on topic - Advent Children. Good movie, although slightly overexaggerated. Suffered a little from rubber-doll combat in places (although not as bad as the Matrix sequels), and requires knowledge of the game before watching. I treat it as an "epilogue story" - no matter what happens in the FFVII universe, after the end of the main game, it's "happily ever after". Even if, as they imply, Jenova cells become a permanent recurring threat to the world, it becomes the "endless conflict" in which good always wins eventually. A classic ending. Regarding the Blu-Ray/PS3/demo thing... well, the demo sold the movie more than its own merits. People are getting pretty hyped for XIII. After the average-okay-reasonably-good, slightly-poorly-paced game that was XII I find it hard to get excited, same as my reaction to most franchise sequels nowadays. It seems the teams that put the spark into VI and VII have long departed...
"Remember boys, we're supposed to get in there and beat that sucker to death, everybody understand? Good, let's do this." But yeah, that sums up my opinions rather nicely. Also, wasn't a CE of this already released? I'm pretty sure that this marks the third time Squeenix is gonna get some people to cough up cash for the same movie... An impressive goal, but one that makes them look like the overlords of some fanboy-based mine.
I have a feeling that SE is trying to bury FFVII by offering everything FF7-related except the remake. Or they're setting up a massive dick-move such that once they DO release a remake, people will be sick and tired of it all and ignore the thing. That's gonna be the final nail in the coffin. I've posted this before:
Hate to break it to you, but I think you missed the joke. Remember, this article was written by Keane. Granted, I'm about three months too late but I couldn't let this one go.
FFXIII Demo Drives Big Advent Children Sales
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete had the biggest release day sales for any Blu-Ray yet in Japan, no doubt because Advent Children is an immaculate work of cinema that everyone should own.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children broke sales records for Blu-Ray in Japan when it released was released last week by selling more than 100,000 copies on the first day of its release. Doesn't seem like much by general media consumption standards, but as Kotaku points out, the best selling anime Blu-Ray in Japan last year only took in 34,742 copies.
The movie, which is a revised and updated version of the CG flick that captured the minds and hearts of Cloud Strife fanboys in 2005, features 30 more minutes of footage and an anime adaptation of a Final Fantasy VII mini-movie starring key Advent Children figure Denzel.
Advent Children Complete was such a sales success, in fact, that it's starting to look like it even drove PS3 sales up. The week before the film's release, the PS3 sold 16,701 units. The week it came out, according to early data, the PS3 sold 57,000 units.
It's a beautiful, stirring and profound film, full of soul and visual wonder. If you're wondering why Advent Children Complete sold so many copies, look no further than its consummate artistry and true mastery of the cinematic narrative form.
Also, there was a Final Fantasy XIII demo that came with it.
The US release is scheduled for June 2nd, though the demo is, at this point, not planned to be included.
