Get ready to catch 'em all yet again, as it seems that Nintendo's planning a remake of the much-loved second generation of Pokemon games: Gold and Silver.
Though most of the Poke-nostalgia among non-series hardcores is probably directed toward the first generation of games (Red/Blue/Yellow, if you forgot), the second generation of games, Gold/Silver, has quite the reputation among diehard Pokemaniacs. So it's no surprise that Nintendo's teasing a remake of those games. That and they already remade Red and Blue, so they can't really do it again (yet).
It's not totally official, but this is one of those things where it might as well be. Pokemon Sunday, a Pokemon variety show of sorts in Japan (they really do love Pokemon over there), announced on its last episode that they would be making a big reveal next week, featuring a "worldwide first announcement and a worldwide first big scoop." During the preview for next week's episode, two party balls appeared on stage: one gold, one silver.
At the same time, two Japanese gaming magazines are reporting to have scoops on the same announcement, and will be revealing the info after the show airs. One of the magazines, CoroCoro, was the first to unveil Pokemon Platinum last year.
Finally, as Siliconera notes, the promotional art for the newest Pokemon movie features the three starter Pokemon from Gold/Silver: Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil. New figures of those three Pokemon are also being released in Japan later this year, so there's that too.
Just like with Red/Blue, I wasted an ungodly amount of time in my more carefree days on Gold/Silver/Crystal, and I'd be glad to do it all over again, especially if there's some neat functionality with the newer games and DS(i) and Wii. Just don't force me to have to play My Pokemon Ranch to unlock Koffing or Psyduck, and I'll be happy.
i would be glad to get one of the older Pokemon games playable on the DS, however I won't be happy if they release them full price. Not paying Ł20-30 for a game I already own
As someone who is actually trying to catch 'em all, (friggin event pokemon, %&^%$*&%#%) this would be amazingly awesome.

What's the deal with P. Ranch? I'm pretty sure you can get both of those pokemon from in-game.
EDIT: this might have something to do with the next Pokemon movie, seeing as they are giving away shiny pichu's (gold) and arceus's (silver/white) for the promotional events. Just be prepared for that instead of a whole new game.
This makes me incredibly happy. The save battery is dead on my copy of Gold, and I've wanted to play it for some time. Anybody know what platform it's going to be on?

DS?
Anyway, the only two pokemon games I ever owned were Gold and Sapphire. I've always loved Gold, I hope this is true.

Well, I'll buy it. Heck, make a Pokemon RPG on any console that I own and I'll buy it.
I do hope it is a remake. I wanna use Totodile again! I hope they let you use the radio while you walk now, and have music for it and stuff. I loved the infinite rare candies from the Crystal exclusive show.
I still like this generation the best. With G/S/C being second, R/S/E third...And the originals actually take the spot of dead last.

I was afraid of that. I may have to get a DS now.
Well, the good part is that you can trade with people over the internet, so trading for the pokemon you want isn't a huge operation of getting two games, gameboys, and link cable together anymore.

Me too. Ah, who knows? Maybe they'll release it for the Wii/Virtual Console?

Doubt it, as the 2D games ton't really look good on a TV.
I hope if they add any areas to these games, they are actually gonna be good coz The Sevii Islands sucked in Leaf Green and Fire Red. Also, I hope they keep both Kanto and Johto in it.

Oh I was just joking about having to do stupid things in My Pokemon Ranch in general to get certain Pokemon.

They've been trying to put in engaging content for after you beat the Elite 4 since G/S/C, but yeah, the Sevii Islands were kind of boring since they were only really there for you to get the promotional pokemon.
I hope its not too much to ask but could you edit your article so we can get a link to a source?
Check out the Siliconera link, they've got screencaps of the Pokemon Sunday thing.
Also
Earlier today, in the Pokémon Sunday variety show and it's website, it was announced that, during their episode next week, they shall reveal a world-exclusive bit of news. Their website states this will be done within the Game Area of their show so it is more than likely a brand new game. There is much speculation as to what the game is, with the general consensus being a Gold/Silver remake which does match up with some new figures of Chikorita, Cyndaquil & Totodile being released in Japan on September 19th 2009, but nothing is confirmed yet, so if you see other sites reporting it as a specific game, remember it is not confirmed that it is that game

True, true. But getting the link cable out and imagining the Pokemon traveling across the cable like it showed in the picture was half the fun.

Also SHINY ARCEUS yes!
Whoa, now, don't go misreading my horrible writing.
There will be a shiny pichu, but the arceus will be regular, at least as far as I know. If you want a shiny one, you either have to be the very first person to recieve one from the promotion, or get it the old fashioned way of soft-resetting 54,000 times.
Seven of them can't even be obtained outside of promotional events.
Wow seems very lame for someone living in a place where these promotional events don't happen (Me)
Think My 9 year old dream of being a Pokemon master will never happen
If you want the promo pokemon, you can usually set up a trade over the internet.
Serebii.net has a big community of people on their forums that will trade pokemon. They're honest, for the most part, because there are several tools provided by the site to help determine if a pokemon was hacked or not. Go check it out, because it has helped me a lot. Also, with the release of Platinum, the activity on the trading boards has increased, so it should be easier to find what you're looking for.

You still see the pokemon traveling. In fact, I think the animations are pretty much the same.
Oh I most deffinately do want this, my fondest Pokemon memories are with Gold version, the nostalgia alone will be enough to warrant a purchase for me.
