Bethesda to Announce "Really Big Wii Game" This Year

image

The Fallout 3 studio is planning on cashing in on the craze for Nintendo's Wii with an announcement this year, says Bethesda Europe director Sean Brennan.

In an interview between Brennan and gi.biz, the gamesindustry folks asked the Bethesda Europe managing director whether he thought that there was a future for mature titles like MadWorld and House of the Dead: Overkill on the traditionally family-friendly Nintendo Wii.

"I think there is, but again, it's all about finding out how big that is," answered Brennan. "Is it 5 per cent? If it's five per cent of the market and you can own that space it's worth doing because you can achieve volume. If you can't own it at five per cent, it's not worth doing, quite frankly."

Apparently, Bethesda thinks that they can own that 5% of the Wii market. After spending so much of its resources directed toward the other two current-gen platforms with Oblivion and Fallout 3, the RPG-heavy studio is ready to start waggling their Wiimotes. "We are going to make an announcement on a really big Wii game this year," says Brennan.

However, don't expect it to be a little kid-friendly minigame collection about shiny sparkle ponies: "We're not going to establish a new range and call if 'My Girly Game Range' or whatever these other companies are doing, it's so me-too and boring."

No Barbie's Dogmeat Adventures, Bethesda? I'm heartbroken.

Unfortunately the DLC for this game will only be sold on xbl.

They did say that Oblivion could be ported to Wii...

Fingers are crossed

Don't bother Bethesda. Don't even think about it. I might have to give up games.

Hmmmmm, i'll wait for some more news to make up my mind, this could turn into something good.

lol More than likely.

Fallout 3 port?

If only...

My question is why? Just because they are spreading the love? I'm glad (and a lot of Wii owners out there) that they are finally getting a Bethesda game on their console.

I'd be happy to see Bethesda start working on the title we already payed for which are still running with a lot of issues.

But instead of that I would not be surprised to find yet another statement of anyone at Bethesda telling us how they "serve their fans", "listen to them" and therefore patch out errors and include content that "everybody" demanded.

If you didn't guess it by now, yes, I own a PS3 and Fallout 3 (and a Wii, to mildly justify this comment).
And yes, I am pissed off by the way that Bethesda treats me as their paying customer.

And no, I didn't even get started on the DLC issue...

I'm going to hug my Wii now.

It's going to be a port of Fallout 3 but as a rail shoo...I mean "guided experience".

5%... Out of the Wii's 50 million users that means their minimum for worth bothering is 2.5 million sales?

Lets be honest, it could be an EXACT port of oblivion of Fallout and it would still suck due to the wiis laughable graphical capabilitys

Laughable? Really? Enhanced definition isn't exactly bad. Personally, I think it's acceptable. Full HD is nice, as a 360 owner, I love graphics. But the Wii's graphics aren't "Laughable". Good Sir.

What happened to you, Bethesda? You used to be cool.

Psychosocial:

the only problem with that is the memory for the saved games + DLC. it would be kind of a pain in the ass to buy a 4GB SD card only to find out that you need something bigger for more possible DLC...and you cant transfer files off of your old SD card, but it is still possible

Ok, this COULD be interesting. If it's a rehashed Oblivion or FO3 though, I give up.

IMO less Wii and more Morrowwind 5.

hopefully they will give me a reason to use my Wii

Hmm... I'm gonna watch and wait with interest.

It does sound a little like they are just going after some easy money, so I wouldn't be expecting a big budget experience.

Despite my opinion of Bethesda's recent offerings, I would think they would be able to make something better than the majority of the Wii's current games.

I got rid of my Wii because I disliked the vast majority of the available games, I don't think I'll be regretting that decision anytime soon.

So what WILL we get, My Girly Bloodtastic Sandbox Slaughterfest? It all depends on how much work they put into understanding the limits and controls of the console.

I might play Oblivion or Fallout 3 on the Wii if they slap on cartoon rendering. That would rock. I can't stand the uncanny valley they are teetering on the edge of.

Lol

Seriously, what made them develop for the Wii? Seems like an odd choice, since none of their games would benefit from motion control.

Oh boy. Another game that will rely on Wii's cruddy controls. I'm so excited. /sarcasm

It's obvious people.

The Return to Morrowind - Rise of the Champion of Clutter

What else (besides awesome sword and bow play) could you use the Wiimote for?

Placing miscellaneous items around the world, that's what.

Edited for grammar and lack of words

No seriously, have you played on the wii? Its graphics would be top notch if it were a playstation 2 or gamecube, but this gimmicky hunk of plastic claims to be current gen. I mean christ even the miis are covered in jaggys..

stinky... Wii graphics would make any bethesda game lose a great deal of it's attraction

Nice save.

Yes because Graphics are the only thing that make a game good these days. No wait, the opposite of that.

Say what you will, but I loved Fallout 3 and Oblivion. Mind you, I did enjoy the first two Fallouts more, but that doesn't mean that it was a horrible thing. I am very eager to see what Bethesda can do with the Wii. Whatever happens, I'm sure it'll be better than another minigame collection.

If "Carnival at Megaton," comes out, you all have permission to pelt me with rotten fruit and call me childish names. I suggest Smelly McStinkpants.

I can see it now.

*Will you blow up Megaton?*
*shakes controller left and right*
*You have decided to blow up Megaton.
"Wait, what?"
*Megaton destroyed. -1000 Karma*
"No damn it! I said DON'T blow up Megaton!"
*Would you like to slaughter innocent quest characters?*
"..." *shakes controller up and down*
*You have decided to slaughter innocent quest characters*
"DAMN IT!"
*hurls controller at tv*
*You have selected to skip the main quest*

Hey Bethesda still cool, we work on it later, later

"We're not going to establish a new range and call if 'My Girly Game Range' or whatever these other companies are doing, it's so me-too and boring."

However, the basic premise of the game will be pretty much the same, we just don't like that name.

Obviously you've never played Morrowind. Amazing graphics in the right game can make it special.
