Despite a professed desire to move on to other things, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima says he still feels pressured to continue working on the series.
Since wrapping up Metal Gear Solid 4 Kojima has expressed an interest in collaborating with Western developers, noting recently that the marketplaces in the U.S. and Europe are "far better balanced" than that of the far more insular Japan. He also recently went on a tour of Western studios and suggested that he might be open to the idea of expanding Kojima Productions to include a U.S. operation.
But in an interview with Develop, the famed designer admitted that despite his other interests, he feels "absolute pressure" to stick with his most famous creation. "Maybe if I quit Konami that pressure might be a bit better, but since Konami handles the business side of our operations, yeah, there's definitely a demand continue a series as successful as Metal Gear."
While Kojima said he'd "love to" work with some of the Western studios he visited on his tour, he also seemed uncertain about the idea of handing the franchise over to anyone else. "I think that Metal Gear, well, that's..." he continued, before pausing to consider his words. "I think that what you might expect from a Metal Gear might only be possible from Kojima Productions, rather than leaving it to an outside studio to produce a satisfactory product. But, then again, if I got an offer saying a company wanted to do it, maybe!"
Onmi: I wonder if he means pressure from the fans or pressure from Konami...
I imagine both. Although I also imagine Konami aren't sending him death threats to keep the series going, so the fans would be the ones applying more pressure here.

I'll say more Konami. Metal Gear sells ALOT, so releasing a game with the MGS name will sell much more on release than a brand new franchise....or Zone of Enders!

True, but are Konami telling them that they will effectively stop his heart? I think not, and that's pretty much what the fans are saying here. I guess the fact that it makes an arse load of cash probably eggs him on.
God I hope this next title isn't MGS. I love it, but his talent is being wasted. Come up with something else or bring Snatcher into the current generation, I need more cyberpunk in my life.
I've never played MGS4, so in my statement below if I got anything that conflicts with the story in MGS4, that is my excuse.
Maybe Raiden can permanently take over for Snake when he dies, according to the writers all he has to do is graft a piece of Snake's body onto his own and he will then turn into Snake. Or maybe he could just carry his mustache arounf in his pocket, "Don't you know me Hal? It's me Snake... I live on throught this mustache."

Well dont worry your weird little head off Kojima, i could care less if you make another game ever again. So as far as im concerned just take it easy, go to the pub take the day off.
Random argument man: Just by saying the comment, he'll probably receive a call soon.
I think not. I remember from his PSM interview (during the E3 trailer of MGS3) that the only reason he came back to it was because no one stepped up. He basically let anyone from his team volunteer to take the lead. Some time passed, and not a single person answered.

I read that he was working on a new snatcher game with Suda 51, calling it Project 'S'.

Its on the news text. :P
Oh I'm not denying that one. I imagine the pressure would get a bit lighter if you go from corporate pressure and death threats, to just death threats.
Ah yes I remember that. One can only hope, because that would be insane, two warped genius minds working on one title. Suda's been making the rounds recently it seems, how the hell is he going to get all of it done?
I'm not getting where you got the idea he is getting death threats to release a new MGS game.
Back when he wanted the series to end with Solid I believe he recieved death threats to do MGS 2, basically he's been pressured to continue the series.

Oh! Ah now that makes sense...
Now I understand why I stopped caring about MGS after the first one...or was it Raiden?

Wait wait wait...Kojima and Suda? How did I not hear about something this awesome?
RebelRising: You guys like using that picture, don't you?
It is, after all, the best way to describe Kojima without words.
I don't know about that. I've heard people say he's off his rocker. I know that pun is awful but with the duck being one of those rocking ones and all, I had to jump at the opportunity.

He made Raiden to appeal to a female demographic, not to mention he wanted a wide eyed foil to Snake to be mentored by Snake.
The complaint about Raiden is "He's nothing like Snake" in the end thats true, which is why he existed in the first place. He was supposed to be a pretty boy who didn't approach the mission with utmost seriousness who had a nagging girlfriend.
After all the best way to show manipulation is with a character who has been manipulated all his life.
The original plan was for Rose to never show up so the player would question "Did she ever really exist or is his entire life a simulation?"
Onmi: I wonder if he means pressure from the fans or pressure from Konami...
Pressure from the voices in his head that tell him to make more money.
Gimme my Zone of the Enders 3, drat you! Or at least remake Fist of Mars for a more powerful system so the graphics and gameplay can receive a much-needed boost in order to enhance the experience of playing what was probably the best text-based GBA game of all time!

I never understood all the hate on Raiden. He was whiny, true, but there was nothing fundamentally wrong with him. Plus I liked how he started MGS2 as a by-the-book infiltrator, then grew more disillusioned as the game went on.

BECAUSE He wasn't Snake. People like to pretend they have deep beliefs but when it comes down to it they are narrow minded and dislike change.
They went from playing as an established soldier to a guy who was just like them really. As the whole situation went to hell.
Raiden was everything Snake was not. such a contrast made people miss the point. or hate the point.

*runs out of breath*
Seraph approves of this statement, more people must know the greatness that was the Fist of Mars.
