Next GTA IV Episode Is The Ballad of Gay Tony

image

The Ballad of Gay Tony, Rockstar's second 360-exclusive DLC episode for Grand Theft Auto IV, moves the focus of GTA IV from roughneck bikers to the "guns, glitz and grime" of Liberty City's glamorous but danger-filled night life.

In a complete 180 from the blue collar and hardscrabble world of biker gangs in Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned, Rockstar is shifting its focus to the bright lights and big money of Liberty City's night life in its latest DLC episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Players will take on the role of Luis Lopez, "a part-time hoodlum and full-time assistant to legendary nightclub impresario Tony Prince," otherwise known as, you guessed it, Gay Tony.

In typical Grand Theft Auto fashion, Lopez's lifestyle will inevitably put him at the center of conflicts that shed light on the ugliness at the heart of American life or something sophisticated like that. Lopez faces a "struggle with the competing loyalties of family and friends, and with the uncertainty about who is real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price."

"The episodic structure has allowed us to interweave stories, gameplay and atmosphere in a whole new way," said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar. "The team at Rockstar North have yet again surpassed themselves, and made something that is both epic and very innovative."

The Ballad of Gay Tony will be available this fall for 1600 Microsoft Points. It will also be packaged as part of a standalone disc (playable without GTA IV) that will include Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned. That compilation, titled Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, will retail for $39.99.

This...looks...real?
So this isn't a spoof article, it's actually called The ballad of Gay Tony?

Not at all what I was expecting, should be a good laugh I suppose. Go Rockstar.

this sounds like it'll be pretty funny, still need to play the lost and the damned though

Gay Tony sounds proper mafia, not just street thugs.

Hah, i knew it. Impossible trinity my ass......

Sounds like fun. In fact, it sounds...

FAAAAAAAAAAABULOUS!

Seriously though, Rockstar fixed some of GTA4's core mistakes with TLAD, so this should improve on the game even more.

i don't give a shit (DGS) if there is a gay character or not it's fuck'n GTA and it will be on disc too as well as dlc great ,but wait till that hypocrite jack thompson hears this the bastard

There are two things that we need from this DLC, a protagonist who isn't just a characicature of his sexual preference, and a story line that is more than 2 dimensional exploration of gay themes.

A good place to start is with The Wire's Omar little; he is one of the best characters of the series in my opinion.

I was really hoping for a return of Nico Bellic... =(

O-kay... this sounds... o-kay...

You mean "the only place to start"...

:D

Ha, wow, bikers to gay guys. No suprises there.

I guess I'll download it. It was a pretty good idea of Rockstar to put these episodes on disk, too. Some people don't have internet and they like to bitch about not getting the same DLC.

jack thompson had his lawyer license revoked.
he cant do shit about shit pretaining to videogames anymore.

I was expecting an episode with that Irish family. Those guys were interesting. Oh well.

"Rockstar's newest game turning kids into homosexual psychopaths?, more at eleven"

Okay, I actually AM Gay, and a fan of GTA... But really, do you think that a lot of people are going to buy a game called GAY TONY? From a marketeers perspective it doesn't make a lot of sense, as the very word Gay has a lot of negative images attached with it. I mean as much as we like to believe that tolerance towards homosexuals is expanding, There will always be a big portion of the market who will not even consider buying the game, because of the name.

Which is a crying shame when you think about it.

well it's some of their nice humour showing through. i wonder if they'll be forced to change it by glaad or someone else

as soon as I looked at the logo I realised I wouldn't be envious of 360 owners for this one

edit: i'll probably regret saying this since it'll probably rock despite the glittery shiny stuff lol... (I detest glittery shiny stuff, it puts homosexuality in an unfair stereotypical light)

I really hope that this DLC does not include a bunch of stereotypical flaming queens like Florian/Bernie but actually has some gay characters that are done properly and respectfully with thier gayness as incidental.

GTA and Homosexuals? My god, his head will explode with outrage

I can't help but envision a really stereotypical flamboyant 80's gay man, with a lisp and Californian accent, he will appear in the adverts and say something like "Don't hit each other silly buns! Just be nice to each other!"

This shouldn't be a GTA DLC

IT SHOULD BE A FRIKEN' GTA GAME

No Jokes about "Rockstar already doing gay" with Vice City

Oh, indeed.

I can see FOX NEWS saying something like," ROCKSTAR encourages kids into homocidal homosexual deviants."

Rockstar has always made great characters. I can't say for sure but I doubt they would make a character(especially the main one) with one overly done trait. Look at their great history with main characters and hope the future only gets brighter.

I still had my fingers crossed for a game about Packie McReary. He was my favorite character and I always got the sense that he did really cool things when Niko wasn't around like; plan bank robberies, work for the mafia, plan kidnappings, rob people, shoot people, blow shit up and cause a great deal of mayhem on his own.

:D

There's always Val Kilmer's character "Gay Perry" in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Ah, so the theories were correct. We will be playing as the third of the Trinity, Mr. Luis Lopez.

I'm looking forward to it (of course). Much prefer gay guys (And Hispanics) to those damn racist meth-head bikers.

Rockstar has also always done homophobic protagonists... CJ ripping on OG Loc's homosexual tendencies and Niko being forced to go on a man date to his utter horror spring to mind...

Both Bernie and French Tom were hand flapping cliches pinker than a Barbie box factory, and from what I saw of Gay Tony in TLATD he won't be much much different.

But yeah, here's hoping.

That game would more likely be seven hours of repeatedly phoning Niko and shouting abuse down the phone at him because he doesn't want to hear you sing Danny Boy drunk for the 200th time.

Sounds pretty hilarious, I'm game.... No game!

I'm pretty up for GTA downloadable content. The Lost and Damned was very good, and kept the quality of the GTA way. That is, after turning the grain filter off!

Thank you, you beat me to it. Omar is hands down one of the best characters of the series, and is pretty unique. However I can see this selling half of what TLATD sold, I mean come now, 360 exclusive DLC that is about a gay character? I'll let you figure out what I'm getting at.

Also Wilson, were you always Red Guard, or did you get promoted? I couldn't remember you being Red Guard in the past, maybe it's just me.

What did it fix exactly? I got fed up with GTA4 and decided to not but TLATD, so I'd appreciate you telling me what they managed to patch up...

Well, the main character, Luis, may or may not be gay. The "Gay Tony" of the title is his boss, it seems. The game itself may not even go into any "gay themes," for all we know.

Also, the thing about Omar is that he is a great character period, though for me one of the more poorly handled ones on the show despite that. That aside, the reason he's great has nothing to do with the fact that he's gay. If he were only interesting because he's gay, he'd be a novelty, but he's not.
