Didn't Left 4 Dead just come out?
You HAVE to be kidding me. THIS SOON?
Wait what? I dunno what to make of this really, Left 4 Dead is barely out, and it doesn't seem a sequel game. This is probably a very articulate joke that M$ is pulling on us. :o Wolf~
No, no, NONONO. Lies. All lies. I don't believe it for a moment. *checks calendar* Well, I haven't been warped to April 1st... what the fuck is going on? EDIT: Wait, and why would MICROSOFT announce it? Aren't they, you know, not the creators? What the hell, Susan... more details ASAP, please...
Oh, HELL yeah! Keep 'em coming, Valve!
Yeah, exactly. What's up with this? I mean .. Seriously. At least they could have hold back the release a couple of months in case they got these ideas ...
I'm sorry, but Microsoft announced Left 4 Dead 2? After the first one has only been out for less than a year? Why the bloody hell would Microsoft have any kind of authority to speak on the behalf of anything that Valve, a privately owned developer, is doing? None of this adds up at all. Why didn't Valve announce it? Moreover, why isn't Valve simply just updating the first one? Releasing a new game this soon just doesn't fit into their pattern of behavior at all.
Wait, why would Microsoft be announcing it? Shouldn't someone else be announcing it or something? Maybe it's just going to be an expansion or something? Or it's just a lie.
Well... now we know why Episode 3 is taking so long. Nobody's working on it.
I imagine Left 4 Dead was an experiment... that succeeded. Wildly. Now they are going to go full force with it. Hopefully they will put all of that talent they have to good use. Man, I wish I was finished with this CS degree so I could apply there already...
OMGWTFAWESOME THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER. Seriously, I'm overjoyed at this new news, provided that it's real. Chainsaws Good, Sequels Better. I'm keeping my eye on this.
Nope - that's the cake I'm so sorry
That seems very plausible, yes. After all, L4D seemed a bit unfinished. But when you listen to the commentary, it sounds like they had a ocean of effort put in it
Seriously, what the hell? Left 4 Dead came out 6 months ago. What are they going to do in a sequel that they couldn't do in a map pack? I expect this from everyone else, but Valve? Although if we use they're previous sequels as an indications this announcement is a prelude to a 6-9 year project that looks nothing at all like whatever they're showing right now.
I can see several possible explanations: 1. Valve have sold out to Microsoft completely (unlikely)
Susan, please tell us this aint a joke. If this game is true I will drown in awesomeness. After I spend Forty days playing it nonstop, of course. Now, if this is true, the game is going to be in the L4D engine, and then some minor updates. But still, its L4D with updates, therefore, as good/better than Left 4 Dead. Therefore, Im going to buy it on the release day. :P Hang on, MICROSOFT announced it? um...excuez meh, but wtf? *COUGH* where did valve go? I hope they didnt sell out to MS... although, were working with MS for L4D anyway (Remember, it aint on PS3?) But this might be kinda fishy...
It seems odd that Valve would announce a sequel so soon, and even odder that they could manage to release a new one in less then 3 years! :P But seriously, if this is true I'm not a big fan, tbh this sounds a lot like more of the same and either Valve needs to take it back for a year or more and add more things that differentiate/add value to the game or give out half of it for free to current L4D owners and the rest as an expansion pack for a small cost. Because as it sounds now? Not worth it.
Well with Valve development time, we might see it around 2020. ^^
Nope, it's not a lie: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/06/01/left-4-dead-2-exclusive-rps-preview/ ...or who knows. This soon, after a fairly expensive and incomplete game?
Oh yeah...Your right :P
The first Left 4 Dead isn't even a complete game yet. I'm still waiting for them to release enough content to make it worth the 60 bucks I paid for it. They cant honestly expect me to pay full price for a sequel that has features the first game should of had in the first place. This is stupid.
Hmm...theres something very wrong in this all...
I will be mad as hell, because I just paid 30 EUR for a game and sequel is already koming out? The fuck... Sorry, but there is no other word for that. I officially stop giving a damn about Valve games. I refuse to pay for them if they are going to release another game OF THE SAME SERIES, A MULTIPLAYER GAME, half a year later.
They spent such a long time developing Left 4 Dead that they've decided to make a new one?
Wait. First off, why is MICROSOFT announcing it? Not like i'm against L4D but why is Valve releasing L4D2 so soon when they've been working on HL2EP3 forever and STILL don't have a release date? I think they need to think about their priorities.
Jesus, could you cry some more? Why does it hurt you that a new game is coming out just after you bought the old one? You can still play L4D like before. If you're seriously going to boycot Valve for that, then please DO IT. I don't want to run into you on multiplayer :/
I still call bullshit. Valve would never, EVER, release a sequel for a game one year after the first. Evidence: WHERE THE FUCK IS EPISODE THREE? Until I'm holding the game in my hands, I'm not believing that Valve would do something so... I can't believe I'm saying this... "pants-on-head retarded".
L4D2 better come bundled with Half Life 2:Episode 3... -.-
If this is legit, then either Valve was developing the second one while waiting to release the first, they're working on this instead of the next Half-Life, or I'm a monkey's uncle.
This is true, there is even a trailer of this.
This is exactly why I don't believe it. I don't even care if Rock Paper Shotgun did a preview, I want to see Valve say it and I want a video in the background, otherwise this is just an inside joke.
/sigh. Its not coming out 'half a year later' its coming out A year later, (Ok so its off by 2 days. Go flame it then.) But listen here - The COD games all have a 1 year gap, except cod 1 to cod 2, but since then its 2005 - Cod 2, 2006, cod 3, 2007, cod 4, and 2008, cod 5...And later in 2009, guess what? Cod 6. And those were all good games. SO CALM, THE FECK, DOWN. Thank you.
Shocked it is kinda soon but i am very much excited.
Remember announcing and releasing are two different things everyone. I'm waiting to find out more before jumping on either train.
Coming out November 17, 2009 http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/47577/Left-4-Dead-2-High-Definition-Trailer-Released
Yes, I am sure that not even 50% of the current player base will buy the new game, and only half of us (at best) will stay. Also let's not forget that once a sequel comes out, the previous game lands in the "ABANDONED FOREVER" box. You might get a patch now and then. But don't even think about DLC or anything like that. Besides, that's just a dick move. "We make a game, then instead of making new content for it, we will immediately after 8 months release a sequel, so you either buy it or stay with your crappy old and unsupported game". That's like Blizzard making another 3 WoW expansions month after month. So you have to buy them all or you can't play the "new content" that could've been added with a patch or two.
CoD 3 was an abomination. And they are not Multiplayer-based games. They have potent single-player.

UPDATE: Microsoft Announces Left 4 Dead 2
We didn't see much. It looks like the new Left 4 Dead will take place in New Orleans, or a city very much like it. The four survivors were all new, and fighting off zombies with chainsaws, among other weapons.
Jordan will be stopping by Valve's booth later in the week, so I'm sure he'll have much more to tell you then!
UPDATE: Valve has issued a press release offering a few more details about Left 4 Dead 2, promising an even deeper cooperative zombie apocalypse thanks to the AI Director 2.0, an updated version of the AI Director found in the original game. The new version will provide even more immersive and dynamic gameplay with the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects and pathways, and customize enemies, effects and sounds.
"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Valve President Gabe Newell. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."
The game will be "much larger" than Left 4 Dead, with more co-op and Versus campaigns as well as Survival mode maps available when the game releases. Left 4 Dead 2 is currently slated for release on November 17 for the PC and Xbox 360.
