Dragon Age PC System Requirements Pretty Hefty

image

Want to play Dragon Age: Origins on your PC? Well, the system requirements are out, and they're not easy.

No fancy lead-in or wisecracks here. Just the nitty-gritty:

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.4Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater
RAM: 1GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X850 128MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Windows Vista Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows Vista with SP1
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 2.2GHZ or greater
RAM: 1.5 GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X1550 256MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Recommended Specifications
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz Processor or equivalent
RAM: 4 GB (Vista) or 2 GB (XP)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Minimum specs aren't bad, but the Recommended ones... well, for comparison, here are Crysis' requirements:

Recommended System Requirements
OS - Windows XP / Vista
Processor - Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Memory - 2.0 GB RAM
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

Minimum System Requirements
OS - Windows XP or Windows Vista
Processor - 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster* (Vista)
Memory - 1.0 GB RAM (XP) or 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
Video Card -256 MB**
Hard Drive - 12GB
Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible

The worst part, though? A whopping 20GB worth of drive space. Ouch.

20 gig? Ouch.

The worst part, though? A whopping 'The New Shit' commercial. Ouch.

Damn. Guess I am going to have to upgrade if I want to play this. To be fair though, I've needed to upgrade for quite some time. I actually meet the minimum specs in every area except CPU, albeit only just.

I have a 2Ghz single-core processor.

Wow that is pretty big. Looks like a lot of people will be playing on some kind of, low and medium combination.

What I like about this is that it's showing all those resources it's using. I expect this game to be epic now

Also, I can run it, but it still recommends a core 2 quad and a 512 8800.

Oh, and I have a 1 terabyte hard drive, bring on the 50 gig games!

Oh well, I was looking forward to buying this for my Mac/PC (my first computer game in a long time), but I guess I'll do the 360 version again.

No toolset for me...

Good thing I have a 360 to play Dragon Age on, eh? :P

Ya know after seeing big requirements like this I'm actually worried about the console versions. Will they get watered down?

I think it's pretty safe to say my 1.5GHz Core 2 Duo and on board x3100 will not run this. I also only have 16 gig of space free... WHERE HAS ALL THAT SPACE GONE!

I wonder how many DVDs you will have to swap around or install on your disk.

Suck my balls, I am not buying this game, Bioware. No, I won't. Prototype has requirements like that, but it's an Open World game. Mass Effect isn't, and has a lot lower requirements, what gives?

edit: FOUR GB OF RAM? ARE YOU INSANE? You are basically making a requirement "64-bit OS!".

That's what I'm thinking! Woohoo! I loves me some 360 version!

I was hoping for a huge disc space requirement. Hopefully this will be a game as epic as Baldur's Gate 2 was.

Looks like my lappy should be able to play this on minimum and that's good enough for me.

Except for the processor, I have no problem meeting the recommended specs.

If only you could upgrade the CPUs on laptops >_<

(...this game actually doesn't interest me, but the bragging rights do.)

Shit, 20 Gig HDD?! I only have 15 Gig left on my laptop!

Damn it, another game to uninstall then:(

Christ the only computer that can run this game is one that government has in the center of the earth to control our minds. 4 gigs of RAM. Are you serious? I can run Crysis on ultra high with 2, what makes this game so taxing on a system. (I'll bet goblin stripers)

Its not as bad as age of conan. That heap of a game required 30 gigs of space ><

Depending on how accurate those reccomended specs are, I'm probably looking at running this on medium. High if I'm lucky. Very high looks doubtful. Also, my PC is several years old.

I am so glad I went all out when I upgraded.

Tasty. I guess they're expecting the bulk of sales on the 360, & giving those PC people who have godly machines the opportunity to play it in zomgmegadef mode

Yeah, that's one of the reasons few people actually play it now.

I meet all the recommended specs except processor, I have 2.6GHz dual core, so at least I meet minimum for that.

P.S. Thanks

e8400, radeon 4870, 4gb of ram, should be able to max it out.

my laptop can run that on recommended.

This is nothing. If you've built a new machine in the last year, you should have this covered. If you have and you don't have this covered, you probably built a very budget machine.

Man makes me glad I aimed for a video editing computer or else I wouldn't of made the bar to play on the "high" settings.

Also while I know the cap for a 32-bit system is 4 gigs(okay technically 3gigs) a 32 bit OS should be perfectly fine for this game.

I really don't even know if I will get this game but yeah that hard drive space hurts. I'm going to have to install this game on my secondary or tritary hard drive just to play this game.

My three year old PC should be able to run it if the minimum spec is accurate.

This makes me happy.

Wow, no toolsets on the consoles? That really sucks that console owners of the game will be missing out on some great content.

While these specs are probably a bit over the 2-3 year old systems that most people are working with, they certainly aren't high for somebody who uses their PC for gaming. I built a system similar to their recommended last year for less than $1000 (it was basically a mid-range gaming system -- nothing terribly fancy).

The real question is how accurate their specs are. Crysis's suggestion for a recommended system will get you somewhere up around medium detail levels. If you really want to put everything to high (which, I would assume, is what the developers would recommend as the best option), you'll need a GTX 260 or 2x 8800 GTS and a decent quad core or high-end dual core. They should start adding qualifiers like "Minimum 60fps @ 1280x1024 with all detail settings at High".

Hahahaha!!!

My PC only just meets the recommended specs. It's a pain because I was hoping to get at least another couple of years out of it.

I suppose this gives me the excuse to finally move to a larger hard drive though. It's a shame that 120GB just isn't enough these days.

Damn was really hoping they did not have that big system req's

20 gigs of hard drive space!! I don't even have that much left and I have an Alienware...

Or I don't need 4 GB to play GAMES. That's not logical. I do meet the recommended (I had to OC my CPU for Prototype, so I know this), but requiring people to own a 64 bit CPU and having 4 GB of RAM (and 20GB on HDD) is insane.

Those are actually pretty weak requirements and not hard to meet. Especially with the prices current computer parts are at. Need to expect newer and newer games to push the requirements.

The third I'll agree on, the first I'll express my sympathy (though disagree - Core 2 has been around for ages) but these days I really don't think anyone has any excuse not to have 4GB of RAM. The stuff's so cheap it's frightening.

Most of that tech crap means nothing to me XD
I think i can play reccomended on my laptop but i dont know because its all gibberish to me

Wooo I can play this on recommended, though 20gb of space? Glad I got that 500gb USBHDD cheap.

1. Changing the OS.
2. Incompatability of 32bit programs on a 64 bit OS.
3. No games use 4GB RAM. RAM is not like CPU or GPU power - you have either enough, or not enough RAM. Having more than you should have won't change anything, it will be empty, not used. Better CPU and GPU ALWAYS make your PC/games go faster.
4. 4GB costs about $80, which isn't that little for a 17-year old.
5. Did I mention I would have to reinstall both Windows XP and Windows 7 to actually use that 4GB to the max?

edit: $80 in Poland is 230 PLN. That's a bit, considering I get 30-50 PLN a month.
