I also think it's a new SKU. It doesn't seem necessary to upgrade the hardware for Natal, and I think a new box would warrant a big announcement.
Could it be...X-Box 360: Red Ring Of Death-Proof Edition?
How about a 360 that doesn't die too quickly and has wi-fi built in?
A man can dream. All in all if the new xbox is for some stupid reason a NATAL only system, they are going to feel some pretty ridiculous sales reprocussions and a total abandonment of the hardcore fan base.
Hmm, i don't know... i don't honestly think the Xbox 360 has many years of life left, and i reckon maybe Nov next year could herald the successor. Certainly planning the successor, but i don't know how close they are to their limits, and whether a new system would provide significant graphical improvement yet to warrant it. Might be getting close to pushing out HD Res at stable frame rates though.... and could probably do with Blu-ray. Consoles don't tend to get much run as the top dog for more than 6-7 years, so it's naive to think the 360-2 isn't being thought about. And Babylon Five's a big pile of shit! For those not in 'the know', the his avatar is the Spaced cast, which is the best TV program, evar, and that is a quote from it!
Oh boy! I can't wait to see them release it before it's ready and have a bunch of consoles break down. :D
Ironically, no. The RRoD is how it is supposed to work. The bug has been that it has allowed you to play games and other media. The new Xbox will now only run the RRoD.
whoppee, another peripheral &/or console package for me to ignore while I happily use my fat ps2 to watch DVDs. Im so out the loop :,(
It'll probably be a new SKU featuring Natal, I honestly can't believe they would make a new one with ODST and Reach coming out for the 360.
If there is a question mark then it isn't confirmed now is it?
All the Xbox360 needs is a beer dispenser. Think about it, ice cold beer AND it's prevent the system from overheating. You're welcome to the idea, Microsoft!
You know what would be the real kicker? If Microsoft follows Apple and Nintendo and release another 360 that you HAVE to have to play any future games or have access to those new extras. Imagine the possible outrage the community will have to see a video game console become outdated 3 years in just for the NATAL system to work effectively.
Er, this is a suprise how? I mean, I think that this was sort of a standard announcement. This seems to confirm what I had already thought: they're not making a entirely new Box for Natal, just bundling it with a 360. It'll be like a new 360 Elite. Hopefully they fix them red rings while they're at it so people can stop complaining about 'em.
It must only dispense natty light, blare Eye of the Tiger 24/7 and allow bros to blast their pecs.
I was thinking more of having a sex-hole on the side. Plus I don't see how any other machine prevents pec flexification.
$100 it will be a bundle pack with Natal.
But playing xbox and blasting pecs are hard to do at the same time.
why they didn't have wi-fi built in to begin with is a mystery to me. My money is on a new box, with a larger hardrive with a possibility of a fix on all the issues plaguing the 360 right now (overheating, and RROD)
Ya know, I would not actually doubt that. It sounds like the type of shit that MS would pull. Definitely something Sony would do, they are just pissed off they did not think of it first. So anyway maybe I am not getting the point but are they saying you have to buy another 360 with just a few added features instead of just releasing a fucking peripheral?
Anyone who bought the system from Best Buy with the service pack can bring the consoles back for new ones, no questions asked. It was supposed to be for RROD, but I can definately see it being used to upgrade their system for free if MS choses to change the hardware.
The more I hear this flavor text about the "new Xbox system", the more hilarious seems. Perhaps next they'll confirm it can become self-aware, and working on a master interface program inconspicuously named SkyNet.
I still won't buy it. | |
360 Slim woot. Meh I don't see the point really. Unless it has the built in wifi which is the only thing the 360 needs. Well that and a time machine to erase the memory of the RROD from sony fanboy minds so they will just let it go. Funny how they always for get that MS spent BILLIONS to try and rectify the situation.
It seems to me we're just jumping to conclusions here. Gamespot has an article about the same thing but they went a little more in-depth and gave evidence as to why this may not be true. In other words, they analyzed why the source may have been unreliable. But when they contacted Microsoft, the company's response was not an outright denial... Check it out here: http://www.gamespot.com/news/blogs/rumor-control/909119209/26925005/microsoft-ceo-confirms-new-xbox-360-in-10.html I don't think it's a new system. I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing a 360-Natal bundle in the future, but a new console is unlikely for another few years.
You're on. | |
I would bet the "new" console he's talking about is a bundle with Natal in the same color scheme. Since all of the pics so far show Natal as black/grey in color I could see a matching xbox and controllers as a new sku. As far as the bigger hard drive goes, I would think they would release it as an add-on and continue the insane pricing they currently have in place, maybe a 1TB drive for $999.99? (I know, that's a slight discount from their current cost/GB pricing.)
Well, a new console generation is still 3 years off, so no reason to upgrade it or anything, so my vote is on a new SKU and a bundle pack.
If it is and its got backwards compatibility I'm buying it. cause its been the issues with the hardware that have stopped me buying one.
They have to justify their expensive blu-ray console purchase somehow..
Well this is a kick in the face. Fuck you Microsoft. Stop out dating all my damn hardware.
Well thats another console gamers argument down the drain.
Unless you really want that bundle with Natal, I'm not seeing what the problem is. Your 360 will still play all future and past 360 games. There's really no sense making it otherwise. It'd be a downright stupid move.
Natal with a "new" elite seems more likely and that will just come with a bigger harddrive.
more junk piling up next to my tv , dam tv needs more hdmi ports , but natal was to be a motion sensor add on ,but like sony's sixaxis another usless pos that i won't use , just fix the 360 ya bastardz

Update: Microsoft CEO Confirms New Xbox 360 Next Year?
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer seemingly confirmed rumors of a new Xbox today, announcing that a new system equipped with what sounds like Natal will hit store shelves next year.
Rumors have become reality as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer today made remarks at The Executive's Club of Chicago today, during which he reportedly announced that a new Xbox 360 will launch next year.
TG Daily reported on the event, and are saying that Ballmer described the system as being equipped with technology that's "really, really close" to real life, and which has a "natural interface" with what TG Daily calls "a built in camera with the ability to recognize movement and voice." Well TG Daily might not know what that technology's called, but I think we can all agree that it's Natal. So, we're getting some sort of system with Natal incorporated in some way next year.
TG Daily says that it's a "new Xbox 360," but considering they didn't know what Natal is called, I'm not entirely sure if they're sure what they're talking about. Ballmer could have been talking about a new SKU (like the Arcade or Elite) that comes with the Natal, which would match with some rumors, or it could be a new, upgraded system, which would match with other rumors. Or he could have just been talking about Natal in general and TG Daily didn't get that he wasn't talking about a new system.
My money's on a new SKU with a new look, but we'll keep you posted once we know more.
UPDATE: Seems that there's a bit of a communication breakdown going on here. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg is doing his best to set the record straight regarding these new rumors and his CEO's statements as well. As he tells Kotaku:
"There will be no new console. We're not going to be launching a new console any time soon. I really believe [Ballmer] was speaking about Project Natal."
Which sounds like it confirms my suspicions that the original report wasn't entirely clear on what Ballmer was talking about. As for the possibility of a new SKU, well Greenberg didn't deny it, saying that "yes, we have looked at that, but we haven't announced any details for something like that."
