...*facepalm* The first person to make a Kriss Kross joke gets a chiropractor's appointment with Sub-Zero. Seriously, though. Is MK still viable as a series? I fell off the wagon when MK3 rolled around. Anyone out there actually looking forward to this?
Love the use of the Ks. Well i expect a few complaints when this game comes out, although as long as it doesnt have boobs in it you could murder children violently and no one would complain.
You just need to add MORE PLAYABLE CHARACTERS!
As long as the game's fun and violent, I think it'll turn out well.
I'm not expecting much, but yeah, this could be fun. I think it was deception that came out that I used to play with my friends, and it was always fun to uppercut them into a trap and watch tons of blood flow out of it, and hear a scream that lasts two or three minutes.
Yes, 60 wasn't nearly enough. Actually, 60 really wasn't nearly enough, since about 50 of them were the same ninja-type character.
How about making the game good? That might even help boost sales, Ed.
Of course. I'm always looking forward to more Mortal Kombat. Everyone should be.
I share the same sentiment. Unless they actually try to make a sufficient fighting system, rather than stuff the game with so much useless frill (gore included), I only slowly shake my head at the idea of another Mortal Kombat game.
Conversely, I hate the use of the Ks, and think you (and OP) should be shot.
No, people DON'T want an M rated MK, they want an MK thay doesn't play like an AIDS infect McDonalds worker just wanked on your big mac.
Oh, it's all in good fun. Simmer down now.
i think you need help if you like twitter :) if they go back to m rated that would be really cool
Your avatar has saved you an untimely death this night. Adieu.
The k's were klever at first, but then (of kourse) they got annoying. Anyway, I'm actually looking forward to a new MK game. Why? A mindless bloodbath with some hot women and awesome dudes kicking people's faces in.
Loathed as I am, I believe the game has had a fatality delivered to it already. It may have been shocking in the mid 90's, but today, I can pull of a Manticorses hornes and stab it with it. Then I can pull a centaurs lower intestines out. Its been fully emasculated, they can either step it up to a devestating degree, or they can fact the facts that they can't be the best any more.
Shot? Well i guess, but id like to see a man who says "adieu" grow some balls and give it a try. Then again Who takes these things so seriously.
Oh, come on! That's the only thing I actually look(ed) up to the French for! Under Napoleon, they kicked some serious ass... for a while, at least.
"Konfirms"? I see what you did there.
FRIENDSHIP. Friendship? AGAIN?
Just popping in to leave a komment. I've always liked MK games but I, and seemingly many others, lament them for being... well, a bit wank in the later incarnations.
Seriously, what happened to Kano's oldie-but-goodie Heart Rip? I don't know how they could really top some of the fatalities in the MK games. Jax's head smash, Kano's heart rip, and undoubtedly my favorite, Kabal's "blender". He literally rushes past the opponent, causing them to spin wildly, then uses his hooksword and cuts them right down the middle.
Meh, People are going to read into this what they want to hear. As a pessimist it sounds like Mr. Boon is trying to sound optimistic for his fans but in reality is toeing the line. He apparently wants to make an M rated title to hopefully restore the fan base a bit, but at the same token he's apparently worried about taking things too far and upsetting anyone since he talks about there being a line even for Mortal Kombat, and actually invokes fear of an AO rating (smoke what?) which is in of itself a sign that censorship/the ESRB has gone too far. Simply put you can't become AO rated over violence. It's been tried (mostly with movies) it doesn't stand up. Even the more successful campaigns that were temporary successes (like Europe's "Video Nasties") ultimatly failed big time. Though admittedly Hollywood showed a degree of spine that game companies/producers have yet to develop. Generally speaking, from waaaay back when I was in school I seem to remember a very clear standard being mentioned. To gain an "X" (or in this case AO) rating the visual subject matter (game, movie, even painting or photo) must show sexual penetration. As in tool A fits socket B right there in front of you. This was actually extended successfully to include things like oral sex, and penetration with sex toys (dildos, strap ons, etc..) which could have been considered exceptions under the original law (which was part of the point when it was coming up, laws being amended within the original spirit). What this means is that you can show all the nudity and simulated sex you want, and nobody can force you to take an X/AO rating, though you can choose to. When it comes to "X" it's all about the "money shots" (called that for a reason). When it comes to violence there is no limit, and honestly that has been an issue. Private pressure (which is a problem) has done a lot where it shouldn't have been able to, but if you check out the history of horror movies and such you'll find it littered with attempts to ban movies or get them rated X for violence or mere "subject matter". Any successes on the subject when met with proper defense have been temporary at the best. Movies like say "Cannibal Holocaust" are noteworthy for this... and honestly just because movies are older does not mean they did not involve shock trends like you see today. There are some movies that can be considered pretty "over the top" that aren't exactly new. Also things like the Binoculars Scene from the old Vincent Price "Horror OF The Wax Museum" (I think that's the title) are messed up in any "era". :) I wish Mr. Boon the best, but honestly if he's going into this "toeing the line as close as he can to avoid an AO rating", I wouldn't expect that much. Right from the beginning it shows he's intentionally trying not to shock people enough to get attention (other than fan hype) and is more likely to run from the threat of an AO rating that actually saying "go for it" and then duking it out in court on principle to maintain the proper interpetation of "R/M" and "X/AO". I know many might disagree, this is simply my opinion, and how I've learned things over the years. >>>----Therumancer--->
Yay! | |
Even the old Mortal Kombats had the arcade machine drop from the sky. That's a staple fatality. Also, it's not the M to T rating change that's doing Mortal Kombat in. I think it has more to do that mortal kombat is becoming one of the least popular 3-D games, and people are getting kinda sick of seeing the same thing. The transition from 2-D to 3-D wasn't a smooth one for Midway and they've really never done much with the formula since the switch. There's not a whole lot of evolution with the games and the fighting is no longer fluid and in your face. To me, the Mortal Kombat games were at a paramount at Mortal Kombat Trilogy and will probably never even come close to it again.
Ladies and gentlemen, we now present you with the sound of Ed Boon making a Mortal Kombat announcement. We will follow it immediately with the sound of no one giving a damn.
They're going to have to do much better than that to make me forgive them for MK vs. DC. They kan start by rigging the game in favor of Scorpion again.
Don't you mean Skorpion?
m ratred like rated M for MANLY!
or M for MOTHERF$*ER! | |
Me me me me me wait, was this rhetorical?
There might be fighting games out there that aren't ridiculously broken but Mortal Kombat ain't it. I understand it's a game that's supposed to be more about the violence than winning but god damn it if you can break a game that quickly, it deserves to be forgotten. The 3D Mortal Kombats are even more broken in that respect.
Shaolin Monks was a good game that deserves a sequel. If they want to make another MK game, they should go in that direction with the series.
Of kourse not, silly! If they made Scorpion into Skorpion, people might konfuse him with the sub-machine gun of the same name, which would be absurd! Then the Skorpion would be thought to be an objekt of Win, while they thought Scorpion was a krap character who is weak and has massive amount of rekoil!

Mortal Kombat Kreator Konfirms Next Kombat Will Be M-Rated
Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon confirmed that the upcoming Mortal Kombat 9 will return to the series' tradition of featuring over-the-top M-rated violence.
Long-running fighting series Mortal Kombat took a Teen-rated turn for the slightly-less-bloody-than-usual with last year's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which dropped the series trademark decapitations and spine-rippings for seriously lame stuff like an arcade machine dropping from the sky to kill your opponent. C'mon, what is that?
Well Mortal Kombat k/creator Ed Boon has enough of that T-rated garbage. As work progresses on Mortal Kombat 9, the next Kombat game, Boon has revealed through his Twitter that things are getting a little bit krazy. "Motion capturing special moves & fatalities today...they are kind of sick!!" he said yesterday afternoon. "I hope we aren't taking these too far," he said hours later.
"People want an M-rated MK...dammit we will give them an M-rated MK," Boon declared. That's right, dammit. If the people want it, the people are going to get it. And hey, how about some really crazy stuff? If we're going to get xtreme here, let's go all the way, right? No? Apparently there's a limit even for Mortal Kombat. "Yea....I don't know where the line is to make MK an AO rated game," Boon said. "But we definitely don't want to kross it."
Pressed for more details about Mortal Kombat 9, which has remained shrouded in mystery pretty much up until now, Boon would only reveal the subtitle of the game: "No the fatalities we are capturing...sorry, kapturing are for the next MK9: Attack of the Nuns: Get in the Habbit!!"
This is why I love Twitter.
