Celebrity gossip site TMZ.com and the LA Times have reported that "King of Pop" Michael Jackson (50) died today after being rushed to a hospital in cardiac arrest.
Details are still sketchy and unconfirmed, so take everything here with a grain of salt - we'll keep you posted as we learn more.
Earlier today, Jackson was reportedly taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest after being discovered unconscious and not breathing at his home. The incident, as reported by TMZ, was apparently fatal. (Update: TMZ's source has claimed that Jackson had already passed away before paramedics arrived at his home, and they were unable to resuscitate him). Jackson, the one-time "King of Pop," had thirteen #1 hits during his music career, and had announced a major upcoming performance tour.
Again, we're waiting on independent confirmation, but if this is true, Jackson would join Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett and Johnny Carson sidekick Ed McMahon as the third celebrity figure to pass away this week. It would also ironically come a day after a new mystery game was announced starring the pop musician.
Update: A second source: E! Online has a quote from a LA Fire Department spokesperson: "The call came in because a person was not breathing," said the source, who preferred to remain anonymous.
Meanwhile, Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, told E! News that the singer had had a heart attack, and that he was "...not OK."
Update #2: Jackson's death is confirmed by the LA Times: "Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times."
xmetatr0nx: Hmm you know i didnt expect this at all. Cant say im surprised considering his over all health and life style. If true this will be big news.
This is more or less what I was about to say. Of all the celebrities who could have died, I wouldn't have expected Michael Jackson. Then again, it isn't really a big surprise.
Well, the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) news is talking about that right now and guess what, he ain't dead. He's hospitalized, he may have gone through cardiac arrest but he's not dead yet. You can't really trust TMZ it's a celeb news site and they are all sensationalist douchebags anyway and despite the news media's liberal bias politics doesn't come into play here so I think we can trust them.
Honestly, it bothers me more when I hear a major news outlet like ABC (where I heard he had a heart attack but wasn't dead) say "TMZ reported"... I hate TMZ
psypherus: I literally just heard this not even 5 minutes ago on the news. Why something like this is news I'll never know
....because he's a major cultural icon, or at least was. You have to remember, he made Thriller.
True say.
Yeah, and he molested little boys... that kinda should erase "Thriller" and any other musical accomplishment. Oh wait, he's a celebrity, and not a Republican Governor, so he gets a pass...
Brockyman: Honestly, it bothers me more when I hear a major news outlet like ABC (where I heard he had a heart attack but wasn't dead) say "TMZ reported"... I hate TMZ
It would bother me more if a major news outlet specialized on celebrities the way TMZ does. So its only natural that they get it from a specialist source.
WaffleTron: Yeah, I really couldn't care less... I cared more when Ed McMahon died this week.
Now THIS is sad :( You will be missed, Ed.
About Jackson, eh. It sucks when most people die (if he actually is dead), but shit happens. Gotta be realistic about these things. What do you think people will do when John Madden eats it? hmmmmmmmmmm?
