HyenaThePirate: You know... I don't suppose this could actually BE SONY's fault? That last firmware update had some issues... I had a bit of a problem even CONNECTING to PSN online... maybe the firmware update did something to the browser that isn't compatible with HULU?
We'll wait and see if Sony doesn't quietly release an update that makes this 'magically go away'
Read the article, Hulu has specifically blocked the PS3.
I did read it but I didn't read anything that was an expressed statement from Hulu that they blocked it. I only read THIS
a little experimenting by interested parties showed that the PS3 was being specifically blocked.
What part of that statement is from Hulu? I tend to base my thoughts on confirmed facts, not speculation by "unnamed parties".
These unamed parties probably took a look at the changes to Hulu, which isn't that hard to do. Your bitching about Sony is misplaced their firmware didn't stop you from veiwing Hulu. If you removed the blinkers instead of being an asshurt fanboy you might realise that.
BehattedWanderer: Sounds like Hulu's plot to take over the world doesn't involve the PS3. Sounds more like Sony's pulling some dick moves again, and people are getting fed up with dealing with their shit.
Quite possibly. That or the Hulu bosses are evil overlords. Who knows? I suspect another 'we made our console hard to program for no good reason on purpose' thing again, to be honest.

Well in this case it's Hulu, a site that already worked on the PS3 (and since Hulu uses Flash, you really just need a browser with Flash to use it). There's no specific platform-dependent programming in place there.
It doesn't really make any sense why they'd do something like this to me either unless this has something to do with a plan to sell service rights to the highest bidder or something like that.
what the hell is Hulu, anyway? meh, not a loss for me, I never use the internet browser on my PS3, and, come to think of it, I don't do much online stuff on the PS3 period.
pantsoffdanceoff: I feel that SONY must be pissing people off behind the curtain some how. wouldn't surprise me considering their past PR moves.
wait what happened?
all I know suddenly some companies are less than happy with the PS3 oh well as long as I can play FF7 the PS3 is worth it hahaha
O RLY? You like FF7 I would never have guessed... I agree a lot of companies have been putting down the hurt on SONY. Which either means its a giant corporate conspiracy and Bill Gates actually owns Hulu or PS3 has pissed these companies off in some way. One of these is more likely than the other....
Seeing that Hulu is already snubbing 95% of the world's population with it's US-only viewing restrictions, cutting out PS3s is a tiny additional factor scarcely worth noting. At least in my opinion, anyway.
(Dammit, I do want to use Hulu... it looks to be an interesting service. Pity I'm 80km (50mi) on the wrong side of a border.)

How the hell does that work? Do you even know whats going on here?
MK Tha Rebel: Don't care. I own a DVR and a nice laptop with HD screen (i STILL don't see the difference!), so using the PS3 to watch videos, let alone on Hulu (I don't use Hulu) is not gonna happen anytime soon.
Sparrow Tag: I would assume the reason may be with Microsoft's upcomming Hulu partnership. Then again, surely it would mean it would be blocked on the Wii internet too. But who knows?
Well, we'll know if Hulu is blocked from Wii internet. But yeah, that sounds like something Microsoft would do.
Can the Wii's internet even handle Hulu? That thing is abysmal
Frank_Sinatra_: Okay wow that is wired, although not that bad. Watching Hulu on the PS3 was really laggy. I'd rather just hook up my PC to my HDTV if I really wanted to watch Stargate on Hulu, but why do that when I can just go out and buy the seasons. Hold on... *Buys Stargate SG-1, and Atlantis seasons* Yep much better quality than Hulu provides, plus no commercials.

I love conversations like these... because they are so adorable in the way they illustrate people's blind, unfathomable hatred for Sony.
But to clarify a few things:
1. I'm not a Sony Fanboy, I'm just an independent thinker. That, and well, I grew up in the kind of generation that didn't quite trust everything they read in a paper, much less in some blurb on the internet.
2. How exactly do you know WHAT those "unnamed parties" took a look at or for that matter how can you be sure they even EXIST? See, thats the big problem with 'independent investigations by anonymous sources"... the fact that the sources are "unnamed" should send up red flags. How do you know those sources aren't the "The Association for Sony Haters" or "Microsoft"? If it were, would that change anything?
3. No statement from Hulu means this is ALL conjecture. Until HULU says officially "we aint gonna let no PS3 show none of our videos no more", there my opinion is just as valid as yours.
4. How does me blaming Sony for potentially F*#&ing up their browser in an update being the possible cause for this classify me as a "asshurt fanboy?" exactly who am I a fanboy FOR? Thats like me saying that Xbox had RROD problems makes me a fanboy. Geez, did you even think about that before falling back on the time-old discredit tactic of labeling people?
5. On that same line of thought, how is positing a counter theory that is a.) reasonable and b.) possible constituted as "bitching"? Sony's recent firmware DID have bugs. That just fact. You do like facts don't you?
...Although seriously, I want Hulu too. I guess we're going to get that in like what, ten years and then we'll only get reruns. Woo-hoo, nobody cares about uuuuuus *depressed singing*

Where'd you buy them?
Do want!
Hastings ($50), and during christmas at Wal-Mart for super cheap($20).
z121231211: Something I'm not getting, why can you not use Hulu outside the US (I live in the US) is it blocking non US ips or is there a different site (like hulu.uk or something) that all of you are going to?
No, Hulu is only available in the US. Something about copywrite laws, I guess the "Commonwealth" and Europe have stricter laws or something.

Specifically, it was Engadget changing browser strings to simulate a PS3. Happy now?
To "simulate" a PS3? Why didn't they just USE a PS3? Why were they simulating that anyway? Why didn't someone just pick up a phone and ASK someone at Hulu? Again, I'll wait until we have more information before I jump on the "Hulu is teh Evuls! LOL!" bandwagon...
Jumplion: That screenshot makes me wish more and more that I was young enough to watch the "A-Team".....
Your in luck, they are making a whole new film franchise!, staring Shia TheBeef as Hannibal, and Megan Fox as The Face. Isn't that exciting?
On topic, maybe Sony will have their own purpose built delivery system, just like the firmware in that you can't do anything for 3 days while Family Guy loads up.

chances are they did phone Hulu up, but were met with bland non offensive stock marketing response, like "Hulu is dedicated to providing the best service to its customer vase"
edit, I meant base!, I'm not changing it because I like the sound of "marketing vase", now I need to decide what accent to say it out loud in. VARSE! VAISE?

Oh wait, apparently not.
You seem very plausible. Credibility confirmed.
I've stopped being so attached to console companies ever since the Game Boy Advanced era, back when console companies were duking it out and there was much embuggerance in the community. That said, if I could actually use Hulu at all, yes, I might be disappointed that PS3 can't show Hulu videos, but since I don't have Hulu I don't really know what to think of the issue at hand. Hulu never issued a statement saying they are deliberately blocking PS3s, and until then, carry on while we try and figure out how to get this firmware to work.

It seems more likely Sony is demanding a cut of Hulu's advertising profits and Hulu isn't having anything to do with it. Just look at a number of Sony's other more recent moves to provide additional revenue streams (That 2k netbook, or the price on the PSP Go) Most likely they have been putting pressure on and Hulu called them on it.

Links or it did not happen. We don't know anything about why Hulu is blocking American PS3s from watching their videos, so until we know why, and as fanboyish as it sounds, it's Hulu's fault and no one elses until we know more.
And I will restate, the 2k netbook isn't even targeted at us and it's a special-freakin'-eddition meant for the rich folk. Why do we even care about that?
