This is why I stick to sims that are based on reality, you can have a rolling or stationary start, you qualify for your position on the grid, and if you hit someone something far worse than a 5 second penalty occurs (like you wreck your car), unfortunately besides a couple of 360 games, the PC seems to be the only platform that has any racing sims that are actually... racing sims.

Race Pro - the nearest thing to a true, fully-featured console racing simulator so far.

Prologue introduced a new format for starting races, in which all starts are rolling starts, plus the cars are single file and spaced about a second apart. Especially in the online mode, the disadvantage of starting at the back can be too much to make up, even in a superior car. The AI is so bad in the single player that I can make up the 16-second gap to an equal car before the second lap of a three-lap race. This, combined with the penalty system, really hurt an otherwise fun online experience. Plus, does any real world racing series start their races with the cars so spaced out? I think not.

Certainly valid issues, fair enough. Have you posted on PD or Sony's GT Forums indicating your reservations with these features?

No. I'm not even sure how many people share my complaints. Certainly the vast majority of game reviewers didn't.

They keep a pretty substantial list of ongoing issues/wishes/likes/dislikes on the Sony GT forums. Let them know or not, but you may want to check it out and see what other people have said. TBH, I highly doubt the races in GT5 will all be rolling starts imo. Simply because there's been a mix in past GT games. Some are, some are not. But, it's worth taking a glance at.

Only 20 exist in the real world, but everyone who plays Gran Turismo 5 gets to try this baby out...shows you why Gran Turismo is the racing sim king, eh?

Yeah because driving the car in a game, and being one of the 20 luckiest sons o' bitches in the world ever are exactly the same thing, aren't they...

Hmm, a million more than a Bugatti Veyron and yet slower, and it's a French car, so of course the interior will eventually fall apart, and rattle in odd places. Looks like a deformed R8, in fact I'd take the R8 anytime over the GT, although I'd love to drive a Nissan GT-R.

Take an ex GT-R owners advice... BUY ONE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sell your mother if you have to, just get hold of one.

Yeah, Kazunori Yamauchi has one. Polyphony Digital designed the in-dash LCD display for the GTR. He's driven Nurburgring with it hundres of times (reportedly). Says the thing's awesome.

erm, graphically yeah the cars are spot on, physics, sound and damage, nope not even any skid/slide/burnout/drift marks to speak of, according to GT1, 2 ,3 ,4, and 5 all of that falls under weird steam effects instead of tire smoke.

I'll stick to Rfactor, or the GTR/Race series thanks, eye candy is not the be all end all.

Oh...so you've played GT5? Sweet, can you tell us what we can expect to see?

I forgot to put Prologue in there, but I would imagine more eye candy, more steam effects on burning rubber, still no damage physics (there never has been any why bother now, six incarnations later?).

I'm guessing someone hasn't seen the E3 footage. Typical. Can't blame you though, I guess assuming damage wouldn't be in 5 is fair, given it's lack of presence in the previous 4 iterations. However, you'd be wrong in that assumption.

Just found the video for the E3 footage, I'm skeptical on how badly you destroy the car, if at all, I had heard rumours of some dents and dings, maybe that's as bad as it gets. Why on earth have they put the dullest most pre-historic version of racing into the game (yes I'm talking about NASCAR), that racing series in this day and age is about as technologically innovative as the horse and cart!

And by my count GT 5 would make 6 games in the series (got no idea if there was a standard GT 3), GT, GT2, GT3 A-Spec, GT4, GT5 Prologue, and this one, the full blown GT5 (could be 7 if you count Tourist Trophy, but that's just bikes).

I'll still buy the game, mainly because of the Endurance racing part of the game (and mostly because of the Mazda 787b), from a car point of view they are accurate down to the last detail, from a sim point of view...it isn't in the same league as GTR or Rfactor, we'll see what's improved I guess.
