Even more evidence to suggest that Wii Zelda won't be horribly dumbed down to appeal to the massive Wii audience. Nintendo just keeps rolling out the good news. :)

This just in! The new Zelda game will be just like all the others, with Majora's Mask still treated as the mutant younger brother none of the rest like!

In other breaking news, air is a necessity to breathe, houses have walls and John McClane doesn't play by the rules!

Pretty much this. Is anyone even surprised by this? Why did it need an announcement in the first place? Zelda has changed little since the NES days.

This is about as surprising as Starcraft 2 possibly being delayed til 2010.

As long as I don't need to travel up and down the countryside looking for tiny bugs (Twilight Princess, I'm looking at you), I will be happy.

Have any Zelda games ever been 'radically changed'?

Zelda hasn't been good since 64. I played Wind Waker and it was neat but I wouldn't touch it again. I played the Wii Wolf one and flailed my arms like a Goomba for 10 minutes before sitting down and just flicking my wrist.

Zelda hasn't aged for me. It's the same game when I was 10 years old only with spicy graphics and a "Demo" mode that beats bosses for me if I get lazy/tired or just want to get some dinner.

Dude it's Nintendo, they don't make anything new anymore.

This game sounds exactly like Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. They did not change a single thing in the repetative Zelda formula.

I don't think I'll buy this. Not a huge fan of Zelda games anyway although I did like the old ones and a few of the GBA ones.

Well colour me surprised.

To be honest, I've never really enjoyed any Legend of Zelda games and this news is unlikely to make me change that stance.

Frankly, I think Majora's Mask was the last time they tried to deviate from the original Ganon and Zelda tradition (on a console, not handheld), and WInd Waker was not, because Ganon was still the main ennemy. Will something like Majora's Mask happen again? Probably not for another 10 years.

I am shocked.

Honestly, I'm getting tired of everyone whining about how the games are the same. Many games have tried changing their ways when they got old, and look how it usually turns out. Splinter Cell wasn't as good when they tried mixing it up after Chaos Theory. Crash Bandicoot tried changing its ways after Naughty Dog sold it, and those games are mere shadows of their former glory. Final Fantasy has stepped out of their element a few times, and quite often (Dirge of Cerberus, for example), it fails horribly.

In addition, Nintendo isn't as bad at that as we tend to say. Consider some of the other Nintendo classics: Mario has plenty of different kinds of games, the best examples of diversity being the RPGs (Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG, Mario and Luigi, etc.). Metroid had a fantastic transition from 2D to 3D. Even Zelda tried switching things up a bit on a couple occasions, both of which failed (the side-scrolling battles in Zelda II were no good at all, and I won't even go into the Phillips CD-i abominations...).

All that to say: stop complaining. They're sticking with what's good because, though it's kind of redundant, it's what we know is good. Familiarity with novelty: Nintendo does that rather well.

If they never make any new IPs, they will never be respected as much as other developers, like, say, Valve are. Well, maybe that's not entirely true if you count the hordes of hardcore Nintendo fans as 'accumulated respect.' It still wouldn't kill them to try something new.

I don't know what to say about this. Considering the disappointment I've seen in their latest games, let's hope they get this one right.

Nintendo... I know it's impossible for you idiots to come up with any new stories, characters, or settings, but you could at least PRETEND like you're not beating a dead horse until it's just a lump of blood-covered flesh

I'll only play it if it has cutscenes like this.

lol. But in all seriousness I do enjoy the Zelda games even if they are a bit formulaic. For some reason Majoras Mask is still my favorite. The 3 day time travel thing was really neat in that one as well all the special powers you got from the masks.

I'll most likely buy this as well as Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I say they re release ALTTP on the DS, exactly as it was on SNES and GBA. No changes. It was perfect.

Thats it, I officially hate my Wii.

Interesting side note, the only Zelda game that the broad overview doesn't apply to in any way is Majoras Mask.

Please stop with the sarcasm. It stopped being clever after the fiftieth person did it.

Problem is other people keep calling Ocarina of Time the better game, just by virtue of the fact that it was out first.

I'm a bit disappointed that Link is no longer a southpaw. Once again he is holding his shield in his left hand meaning he will attack with his right, ie because of motion controls. Not that I am against motion controls, but Twilight Princess Wii was less than stellar. I found that wiggling the wiimote was far less accurate and precise than using a button + stick combos like before. The game just felt loose and sloppy.

Maybe since they are making the game from scratch for the Wii it will be tight, but so far no "sword swinging" Wii game has been very good.

New art design (maybe), same old revisit, maybe some new settings and characters...
I'll still check it out. I grew up with zelda, any it hasn't disappointed yet.

Why so much hate on this? Sure it would be could if Nintendo branched off a bit, and didn't stick with the same formula, but the zelda games are good! So what if it's predictable? It's just got the same zelda heart with a few new additions. Am I the only one who's ok with not having a complete overhaul?

Way to overemphasize one quote and berate a game that hasn't even be released yet...

It has projectile weapons, explosives, swords, hammers, vehicle(s), a free-roaming environment, enemies to 'outsmart' and kill, and platantly disregards several laws of physics.

Shame on Nintendo for making such a game! They should learn from every other game out there and add multiplayer.

Whatever happened to the idea for a Zelda game set in the future? I want to be a green guy who kills stuff in space with a sword, some projectile weapons, and explosives! And instead of killing Ganon and rescuing Zelda, maybe I could fight the Flood.

Some people get bored of predictable games. In the same way people got bored of Little Britain milking the same 3 jokes for 5 years.

Oh wow. Nintendo, not deviating from the standard pattern they've been using for a long time. That's a shock.

That said, I'll probably end up playing this.

Sadly this was just what went through my mind... Oh why can't I be the strong willed snob gamer I should be. I really do love shovelling this formulated, crap into my household year after year...

Anyone notice that because of their raging sucess in recent years they've actually started being brutally /honest/ about their opinions? We're not changing anything, gamers don't know what they want. Etc Etc.
Reeeally cocky of them ain't it?

After how much people bitched after WW made some relatively big changes, I can see why they would just "stick to the formula". If you change the game too much, then you lose your core fan base, but Zelda fans seem to bitch at anything new.

It'll be a new story, that's cool for me. I'd like a sequel to TP though, that'd be interesting. :)

Wasn't there something that said that Link was going to be older in the next one? You can kind of see it in the art.
Maybe this means they'll be attempting to take a focus on the story and personality of the characters involved (fond hope).

i'll definitely get it.

you seem to just describe Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princes yet each game so far has been, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker for example, don't follow that system...much. yes, it's a case of collect these, go here but even if it was just that for the new one, i'm still going to get it. plus, with it being solely developed for the Wii, it will be awesome. hell, even an OOT remake on the Wii would be awesome.

Well I find Majora's Mask a better game. Indeed, if Majora's Mask came first, then it would have been the first 3D Zelda game, and thus, people would have liked it more.
