Oh, I see what you did there! Why can't I think of puns like that..
But won't you guys announce it anyway so I get to be lazy? :) |

I suppose you could, but then you wouldn't get to say "I saw this first" and post a link to a forum thread would you? :P |

But knowing my luck, I'd see it 5 hours after everyone else and get told to use the Search Button. |

A new old project says way more about it being a new addition to the Jedi Knight series.. |

The only thing I could even think would be re-releasing it at a cheaper price. Making a new one would just end with LucasArts failing to deliver a similar (or better) experience. |

That would be interesting, although Jedi Knight: Outcast was the best of the series, the lightsabering wasn't quite as intuitive as what Bioware did with it, really. A lot of waving around and mashing buttons til guys were dead and less finesse. Though multiplayer was a bit interesting for a while. |

My God...is it really? Oh PLEASE let it be an announcement for KOTOR 3. That would be SUPREMELY awesome. |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 736 Joined: 24 Mar 2009 | The time is ripe for a new X-Wing game. I'm missing my star wars flight simulator jones big time. Plus it would work equally well on both PC and the consoles, making everyone happy. Just so long as they stay away from the prequels. I'd more like to see the EU-After Saga ships be brought to life, E-Wings and all that. Edit: From the first time I saw Sith Kenobi, I knew Vader and the Emperor wouldn't have stood a chance against him. Kenobi rules. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2640 Joined: 28 May 2009 | I definitely wouldn't mind X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter 2. Although it could quite possible be a new Indiana Jones as a tie-in with the Crystal Skull movie. Seeing that there are more Indie movies coming up... |

Oh X-wing/Tie fighter would be amazing. I played the crap out of those games. And yeah, any Tim Shaeffer game would be great if, and I say IF, they can recapture the magic... maybe work with double fine to do it right haha |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2582 Joined: 10 May 2009 | KotOR 3? A new Jedi Knight game? X-Wing/TIE Fighter?! BATTLEFRONT 3?! If it is any of these I will go "wewt". |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 739 Joined: 23 Jan 2009 | If its not Republic Commando 2 or Starwars Battlefront 3, I'm not interested at this point. |
Creator of Apocalypse Lane Posts: 976 Joined: 28 Apr 2009 | I would love a new Maniac Mansion or Grim Fandango. I miss the hell out of the old point and click adventures. The new Sam and Max has been wonderful though and I'm excited about the New MI and the remake. I would love to see them do something using their classic 2D graphics. The Curse of Monkey Island looked 10 times better than Escape From Monkey Island. |

Maybe they couldn't beat Darth Traya? Anyway, I won't hold my breath over this. Likely be some teat of the Star Wars franchise. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 756 Joined: 16 Dec 2008 | Why would adventure game remakes be 'awesome for old school fans'? Those games still stand on their own. The charm has not been lost in the years. What would be awesome is if Lucasarts can go back to making less games at higher quality like they used to. Or a new space sim. That would be fantastic. |

It's not like we had a flood of quality adventure games the last few years, especially not compared to the point-and-click adventures of the 80's and 90's, King's Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Indiana Jones, Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, ... Or even The 7th Guest, The 11th Hour, Phantasmagoria, Tex Murphy, ... |
Beat Writer Posts: 216 Joined: 7 May 2009 | It's a sad day when a company can't excite people with new innovative ideas and can only get us excited with the promise of sequels that we're never going to think stand up to the original anyway. It's like we're picking peanuts out of our own- .....ok I won't finish that. |

.... All I know is if they tease like that, it sure as hell better not be StarWars. I have no problem with it being such a game, but don't tease it. |

UPDATED: LucasArts Tease New Old Project
LucasArts has teased a new project that will be 'awesome for old school fans'.
The games industry can get very 'meta' at times, and never more so than with teasers. When a developer announces that they'll be making an announcement, well, it's enough to make you go cross-eyed.
But this is exactly what LucasArts has done, via its official Twitter feed. The first tweet was the teaser, while the second added a few more details, saying that "It is awesome news for our old school fans."
As an old school LucasArts fan myself, I am positively tingling with excitement, especially seeing as the Xbox Live release of Monkey Island looms ever close, no pun intended.
With a rich stable of much-loved adventure games to draw on, LucasArts could make a lot of fans very, very happy by re-releasing Day of the Tentacle or Grim Fandango as DLC, but there's also Star Wars Battlefront III which was thrown into limbo following the closure of Free Radical. Slightly less old school, but it had some wicked concept art.
Whatever the actual announcement is, it's coming on Monday, so keep your eyes on Twitter!
UPDATE: Well, the cat's out of the bag, and what a cat it is! LucasArts have partnered up with Valve to release ten classic games on Steam.
On Wednesday, you'll be able to buy:
What makes this even sweeter is that this is the 'first round' of releases, with more to come in the future.
In the press release announcing the deal, Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts said:
"This effort is going to make it possible to introduce a whole new generation of gamers to LucasArts' classic games. It also gives more people a chance to play our games by making them available long after they've disappeared from store shelves. We hope our fans are as excited as we are about our plans and we can't wait to share what's coming next. This is just the beginning."
Grim Fandango via Steam? I can't wait!
