DICE Address Battlefield 1943 Server Issues

image

Developers DICE have spoken out about the issues dogging Battlefield 1943.

The launch of Battlefield 1943 has hit a few bumps along the way, with players experiencing a variety of problems including crippling lag and seemingly random disconnections. Not a great start by anyone's standards, but developer DICE say that the game is a victim of its own success.

On the EA community forums, DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke posted: "Good News, the game is incredibly successful beyond even my expectations. We have reached server capacity, but the bad news about this now some people can't join unless someone leaves."

DICE and EA sprung into action, adding more servers, but discovered new bugs along the way and so had to iron those out as well. According to the latest update, the game should be working for most people, but there are still people having connection issues.

It's not all doom and gloom though, at least not for EA and DICE. Within 24 of the games release, players racked up nearly 30 years of playing time and got over 5 million kills. Which is great and all, but not really all that comforting to the people unable to play the game.

Aww.

I didn't notice any disconnects when I was playing. Though I suppose it was about 3 in the morning GMT.

Too bad the game was kind of rushed.
Guess I'll wait a few days before buying then.
Thanks for the info!

Hang on, something feels strange..........

..........did EA actually do something.....NICE.....for us?

I think the server issues are only for the 360 version, so if you have the PSN version your in the clear.

As a BF player from 1942 all the way through 2142, I just have to say that this ALWAYS happens. DICE are retards. Every BF they release is buggy as s**t, and it takes 1-2 years before they fix most of it and present a half decent game. One would think they were designing a flight simulator rather than a mindless shooter. This is the reason I am not getting involved with 1943, aside from the fact that it's just 1942 with nicer window dressing.

Exactly! Can you imagine what this mess will be like when it comes out for PC? It'll probably be hacked in 5 days and preloaded with bugs.

I've been thinking of buying it. I liked the demo, though I don't think I liked it enough. Any opinions on the game here? Besides it being buggy as hell of course.

Trying to play it (XBOX) and get amazing amounts of lag, stupid bugs with vehicle collisions and random freezing.
It's always one team that wins, next round, they win again etcetc.
Not that great

I got the trial version. At first I experienced a lot of hell with trying to join a game. I fucked off to something else, came back, tried again, and it worked with no lag. This was with the 360 version btw.

Oh and while I'm talking about this:

EA, what is with you guys putting half an hour on the goddamn trial?! It takes me more at least an hour to play with it and see what I think of it! :(

DICE and EA pissed me off with BF Vietnam and they pissed me off so much I never bout battlefield 2 or any of its offspring.

let me send a shout out to them-

Fix your fucking games before you release them, especially that damn punkbuster that has always been a lousy piece of shit. Delays are better than releasing a half-assed piss poor game that does little more than take up space on a computer.

sorry for the swearing but if I stated it any other way I would have been lying about my sheer anger with EA and DICE

P.S your customer support sucks, fire them all and start over

I agree. I bought 2142 when it first came out, I was also a Beta tester before that. Everything we told them to fix during Beta testing was still present in the retail release until the first patch came out, and even then I gave up playing it. Only recently did I decide to reinstall my digital purchase, and three years later the game is sort of what I imagined it could be from day one, and now play it when I can (save for punkbuster randomly kicking me off still). They fixed 2142 just in time to get ppl to enjoy a bf before they released 1943.

Honestly they must have completely different dev teams working on these, otherwise they truly are 'tards.

If they're so shit, why have you played all of them?

For what it's worth, I reckon that at £9.99 this game is wicked value and good fun. And just another reason to get a PS3 by the sounds of it...

because the premise of game play is interesting. I entered 1942 after the initial bug period, but heard of it. BF2 I was too engrossed by the pretty graphics to care. When it came to 2142, it's mediocre graphics and the knowledge I had gained as a 2142 beta tester knowing we had told them about problems 4 months in advance but were still present in the retail version really ticked me off.

P.S. I didn't say they were s**t, I said they were buggy as s**t. Two different things. ;-)

Ah, PA has done it again.

I guess we assumed they would actually fix the problems, especially with all of those patches they kept releasing. None of them worked and we just wanted a real investment of fun.

what we got was more shit

I REALLY hope EA or DICE gets a rep in here so we can bounce some of these ideas off of their thick skulls

Um...good for you guys? Glad your game is so popular that it can't handle it? I don't know...be better prepared!

I have no problems on the PS3 version.... assuming everyone was talking about the 360 version.

Now your sounding like someone who has played a Ubisoft game..
Rainbow Six series comes to mind..Farcry 2 also in there.

It's pretty good, and for £10 you can't really go wrong. The maps are well designed, the classes, weapons and vehicles are all fairly well balanced, and there's always people playing it. Oh, and the sounds are possibly the best i've ever heard in a game. Seriously, they're incredible. Most of the issues with servers and connections have been fixed, and if you're having problems then chances are there's a solution on the forums.

I DL'd this for PS3. Welcome to the future, kids. We're going to see moe and more games distributed just like this.

The thing to remember: this is $14.99. I think this is a GREAT release for 15 bucks, and on the PS3, I haven't had any issues at all.
