Oh my god! that is awesome, i really wish Nintendo would go back and at least remake StarFox 64, that game was the best.
This sounds like it would be awesome to play, even if its based off an entirely different engine Hopefully, Nintendo just slap a giant N on the whole project and say 'sequel', and move on
Holy crap! Some clever guys at work there.
Why does the gaming press have to draw attention to these things? Now Nintendo are just going to pull a dick move and stomp on it, whilst not giving anyone a sequel themselves. Why oh why can't you people just wait until it's finished and then cover it? At least then it would have escaped into Torrentsphere before Nintendo could proeprly exterminate it...
If Nintendo does tell them to stop making this game, I bet we will see this trailer at E3 next year. Minus the online multiplayer.
A barrel roll? | |
Nil! Why did you post this, by attracting attention to it you are increasing Nintendo's chances of finding out! We should stay quiet till its released then BAM! Arwing barrel rolling for the win.
Wow, i loved lylat wars back in teh day! :O
I've been waiting for something like this far AGES!!! But alas, my wait will still continue, unless Nintendo don't do a SE move on it.
wow... this is brilliant. i hope nintendo doesn't step on it though. although considering that it is being released for consoles made by other companies, they probably will do.
Its not being made for consoles, but as a computer release. But point still valid EDIT: then i realise, ive trolled :'(
They've since made a much much better trailer, the one here is *old* check out their site http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7416 Or just go to this youtube page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFnSvromImU
Well, Nintendo's not EA, so I have at least SOME hope that if they do issue a C&D, it won't be right before the project's completed. And for all of you complaining that covering this will only draw attention from Nintendo, their legal department probably looks for these kinds of projects on their own. I would be really surprised if Nintendo did not know about this already.
Hopefully nintendo won't pull the coorporate dick move and kill this right before its done. If they were smart they would let this release then hire the team. Hell they made this faster than nintendo probably could.
Wasn't there another unoffical sequel awhile ago (i forget which one but it was in the news section if some piont if some remembers do tell) and the original company/punlishers/developers etc. weren't too pleased. However this is Epic, used to loved this game.
this looks pretty epic | |
Going by the video, space battles are going to be where it's at in this game, I mean, just look at the backgrounds! True, it's still being developed, but I don't think any battles that take place within a planet's atmosphere will be able to hold a chandle to the space combat. Now, about Nintendo...if they wanted to help the series, make a new story, or, maybe even reset it...or scrap the whole thing and make the series a Cart-racer.
This had better get out,
If they make money from it then I think it should be stopped by Nintendo since it is their creation. But if not then I wouldn't see the fuss. I probably should check if it's free or not.
Nice! Fans are awesome, but I'm not doubting a cease and desist.
I'm with the other guy, they should have not let this leak and they should have kept it secret until it was done. Announcing something like this is just asking for it.
The problem is they can't possibly expect this to fly; Square Enix wasted Chrono Trigger: Resurrection, and this Star Fox remake is going to get equally stepped on. It's their IP and they'll protect it, even to the detriment of their own fanbase. Now if they'd started the project under some other moniker and largely avoided attention by not duplicating ship designs, they could have released the game without scrutiny... but oh look, all you have to do is type in "starfox" and poof, there's your Star Fox sequel. Not that that would have attracted any less legal ire, but then just getting the code out there is what's necessary. They could have pulled it in two days but once the code's in playable form somewhere uncontrolled, it's available everywhere. The publicity of an innocuous game getting killed because of a Star Fox easter egg would market it better than just calling it a Star Fox game straight out.
Well as soon as the game starts to make a dime, those lawsuits and royalty suits will start flowing in.
There are three possible endings 1. Nintendo pulls the dick move and stomps all over it, either right before it's completed or earlier I'm hoping it'll be 3 or 2, if it's 2, they wont be pulling a dick move, and everyone wins. If they do pull a dick move, i hope it'll damage them without getting rid of the game. But because of the hype they'll be getting thanks to the gaming press, it'll most likely be the first ending.
Nintendo: What? They're making a Starfox game that isn't full of cute and suck? For free? How dare they?
One can only hope the lawyers dont come around, but i get the feeling any company would send out the order on principle alone.
I half hope that they do get shut down. Projects like this that piggyback on the popularity of other games often overshadow other projects that are more worthy of recognition. It's like, it doesn't matter how much good work you do, just use something recognisable from a million selling game and play their soundtrack on your youtube spoiler video. You will get much more attention. Yeah, I'm a miserable killjoy.
They'll probably get their project cancelled. I mean "putting it on youtube doesn't help". However, I don't know why companies shut down projects like these. A possible solution is to hire the underground team and make the game for them. Teams get their game and companies wins money. It's a win-win from this perspective. Note* I have this feeling someone will kill my theory soon.
Just rename it StarWeasel - Shadows of Pyrat Your wingmen are now Beppy Rabbit, Flippy Frog, and Falcon Lambada, and re-record the tune as a Wierd Al Style polka party remix... Its now a parody and legally protected, right? Push it a bit further by saying 'created by Dimtendo' To me, it all depends whether it's a free fan update, or they're trying to make money off it, if they're in it for profit, then they're on dodgy ground using a nintendo brand to do it. If its a fan homage, then damn, Nintendo need to realise the power of their fans, and instead of wasting money on lawyers, hire the guys to remind them what makes gaming fun.
Fans are pretty great. | |
50% chance its shut down immediately thats my breakdown
Yeah... or they might be bastards and do a SquareEnix - wait until about 1 week before the project is released, and then give a cease order.
holy balls! that looks great!
Epic. But seriously Nintendo are going to stamp on it. I'l insert things in painful places if they don't. After playing it to death first of course

Fans Create Unofficial Star Fox Sequel
A group of tech-savvy Star Fox fans are making their own update to the series.
It went a bit quiet on the Star Fox front after Star Fox Command on the DS - unless you count Virtual Console releases - and in lieu of an official sequel a group of dedicated fans have come together to make their own titled 'Shadows of Lylat'.
Based on the Freespace Open engine, which does not require the original Freespace to work, the game will feature three different types of Arwing to pilot, as well as some old faces from previous games.
That's not to say that it will be exactly how you remember though, as the FAQ for the project makes abundantly clear: "Star Fox is more of an arcade shooter, while Freespace is a simulation shooter. While the SCP allows us to do many awesome things, we won't be able to get it just like the original games."
That's not the only hurdle either, as the project will undoubtedly draw the attention of Nintendo's legal department, and they would be well within their rights to shut the project down faster than you can blink.
If 'Shadows of Lylat' does somehow manage to avoid a cease & desist notice, it will be playable on Windows, Mac and Linux and will be released "when it's done."
