Plants Vs. Zombies Coming to iPhone, XBLA

image

Tucked inside a press release heralding the retail availability of PopCap Games' Plants Vs. Zombies is official confirmation that the game will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade and iPhone platforms.

This should come as little surprise to anyone who has followed the success of PopCap over the years. The company is almost as notorious for porting their titles to every imaginable platform as they are for creating ridiculously simple yet addictive games.

Unfortunately no details were offered on when exactly PvZ might make the jump to Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace and Apple's App Store, nor what price points might be affixed to the game. There's no telling how long it might take PopCap to recode PvZ for the new hardware, but we definitely expect a price point in the $10-$20 region for both iterations.

If all this talk of Plants Vs. Zombies has given you a hankerin' for chlorophyll-laden gore, the press release also mentioned that the game can now be purchased in boxed form from retail stores in both Mac and PC flavors for $20.

To be honest, this game just won't work on Xbox 360, it wouldn't work on Playstation 3 either.

That is unless PopCap change the whole game, considering how trying to click on the falling suns with a joystick controlled pointer would be hard as fuck.

Woot! I've been waiting for it to come to iphone. Perfect game to play on the bus. :D
And my only thought on the XBLive is that they likely will introduce some different controls for various functions. Sun might be collected automatically, buttons could be used for different menu areas, etc.

Have you considered the idea they might realise that and replace the falling suns with something else?

Well, it's not like developers haven't tried making pointers in console games before. Considering how they still try making good RTS games on console, what's stopping them from trying this? ;)

Good and RTS don't mix with consoles. Even Halo Wars is mediocre when compared to PC RTS games.

...True... yeah, I'd forgotten how foolish and/or lazy developers can be when porting a game from one platform to another.

i don't think to controls would be good on an xbox 360 port.

well good for them, hope they buy it its a great game and insanely amounts of fun for close to nothing.

I finally crack and get PvZ despite my absolute hatred of Steam, and then they f'ing release it retail. Bloody dicksmurfs!

O whell, the retail copy will probably still require Steam anyways, and I paid half as much.

Now any word on a DS port? DS is the only console system out there where this game would actually work well.

Fantastic game but it won´t work on the Xbox360 if they won´t change the controls
