Quite interesting, but this is something I would expect from the studio that brought us Indigo Prophecy. Make fun of that game all you want, it was excellent until the last one-third or maybe even one-fourth
Here in the UK we got to keep the boobs in Fahrenheit. They didn't make a lick of sense, but by Jove we had them in all their polygonal glory!
But there was sex and nudity in "Indigo prophecy" (Fahrenheit is a much better name), did they cut it for the Americans then?
Ugh, why can't everyone just shut the hell up about censorship. Its really starting to get annoying.
So are there actually any boobs or not? If the tease has her get down to nothing but her underwear then anyone who gets comfortably is being silly, in my own opinion anyway.
Not trying to start another war on rating boards, but I think the ESRB is pretty much the only one in the world who would have a problem with that. Quantic Dream has already proven they have no fear in showing skin (having to prove that in this industry is pretty sad, tbh), and nowhere - except, you guessed it, North America - it was a problem. Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy sharing the same rating with porn games? Seriously?
Probably, I wouldn't be suprised.
I'm guessing at most(or less?) you just see her in a bra and panties. I doubt there will be full frontal nudity like what the media will make it out to be.
This sounds intriguing. Although ... Do you think people are uncomfortable seeing it because she doesnt have Tits like DOA Characters?
They were indeed removed as they did not make much sense anyway like the rest of the end of the game.
Meh I'm beyond puberty so I can control myself.
Haha, love it, gamers feel uncomfortable with having to relate to a strong female character and making her "do stuff", but when they aren't emotionally attached to a character its all good?. Put your hands up for Sig Freud, I love his pity.
Good on him. It's nice to see games actually invoke some emotion. Just imagine how Bioshocj would have turned out without that "A man chooses, a slave obeys" scene... Was I the only one staring at the controller in horror trying to make it stop by button mashing?
This game has never been promoted as being anything but adult, in theme. It should come as no surprise to anyone that gamer demographics have altered vastly in the past tens years. Gaming isn't just for kids anymore, and it's about time developers started making games that take that into account.
I TOTALLY DID THAT. OT: At a glance, it seems like the striptease scene could have just been written in for the sake of being controversial, but I'd have to wait and see what context the game puts it in. Being naked in novels tends to be gripping; being naked in movie theatres tends to be gratuitous.
Wait...if the striptease is maneuvered with controls similar to what we have seen in the trailers...does that mean we can mess up the "striptease" if we don't press the right button sequences?
Considering Fahrenheit had two sex scenes with full-frontal nudity (as far as I remember) and one of them was interactive, unless Cage starts censoring himself (which he says he won't) I think it's pretty much guaranteed that there'll be at least one sex scene in Heavy Rain (and we'll probably get to see more than Mass Effect 2), he's had sex in his games as far back as Nomad Soul. Whether they'll have to cut it out for the North American release is an open question. Also, given all the scenes are interactive, I'm somewhat curious as to what happens to Madison if the player doesn't knock out the bad guy when given the chance.
Promise of partial nudity = a million more sales. Nice marketing scheme, Quantic Dream! Oh, and I wish this was coming out for the PC. It looks really cool. I enjoyed Fahrenheit (their last game) too, even though I found a lot to critisize... and this looks a lot better; partial nudity aside.
Oh the hialrity! I wonder what the failue would be? Taking off your shirt than tripping over a coffe table?
It would indeed be bizarre...I wonder if there is a possibility to die in that scenario (slip on the stripper pole and break your neck)
If there's tits, I'm in. Hell, if there's tit, I'm in.
Just saw it on youtube. It was hot and strangely alluring. Me likey.
No, she simply gets raped and killed.
if rated R movies can be a medium where sex is used to portray a particular message, than video games should be allowed to have a similar medium. I think this a brilliant story telling idea, albeit slightly immoral.
It's bad enough seeing her uncanny valley-dwelling face, let alone... more of her.
Very interesting. It's good to see that Heavy Rain's developers are focusing on the reactions that they can get from their players, since it shows they care what we think, to an extent. I wish this was on the 360 too, but IIRC they haven't announced whether or not it'll be on the PS3 and nowhere else, so...*crosses fingers*
It's her eyes, the rest of her face is shiney... except her eyes.
Its going to be hard for gaming to hit any kind of cultural maturity if petty things like this are going to be classed as controversial. I just watched it on Youtube, it is brief and its just underwear you see, nothing you couldnt see in a goddamn fashion magazine.
That was a good month...And it's going to be another, I'm planning to play that game again alongside Policenauts for the first time (I would prefer Snatcher, but I'll take what I have at this point). Either way, I'm not getting into the same crap people normally do when things like this come up, I'll just say that we have known since the last two or so generations that games are no longer for kids. They have said themselves that they want to make a game that is aimed at 25-35 year olds, and they should be allowed to do so. Gaming is a broad spectrum, we ain't in Kansas any more.
When a game is made from the ground up on the PS3, it's not going anywhere else. That's why the architecture is so fucked up, to prevent such things.
fix'd | |
Oh no, there is most definitely nudity - there was a trailer floating around a while ago (in Polish, but I had the audio off anyways) and boobs/posteriors/possibly other bits were on full display. I don't remember if the camera ever pulled out far enough that it was showing full-frontal nudity, but she was definitely walking around naked at one point.
This is a bold and praiseworthy step by David Cage and the Quantic Dream team. It's about time that we not only had nudity and sexuality in games but also a peek into the motivations behind them. I think it's fantastic that Heavy Rain will push ahead with this scene and not bow to pressure about misguided censorship efforts.
gee i still can't find any nudity in gta 3 ,vc ,sa or 4 ... i fully support the military ( not the gov) defending our freedom and fighting censorship
In the UK they were included in full. The sex mini-game with the ex-girlfirend, the full nudity shot of a prostitute jumping off a client when the door is knocked down and the close-up bizarrely laughable pointy polygon boobs, buttocks and low textured patch of hair while two characters are at it. It was a lot closer to the scene in Team America: World Police than a real movie. Perhaps with mocap and better graphic they will pull it off from an aesthetic point. Of course none of the scenes were necessary in the story or character development, I think they just wanted to make it feel like they were doing a more mature game or almost a film. In which case they should have shut down the story about a third of the way in. It does sound like there's a reason to this scene in Heavy Rain though.
Why is this sort of thing still a big deal? If a scene like this was in a film, no one would bat an eye. We've known for ages that not all games are aimed at kids anymore...

Cage Defends Heavy Rain Striptease Scene
The sequence in Heavy Rain where player character Madison Paige strips for a nightclub owner might make players uncomfortable, but according to Quantic Dream's David Cage, that's the whole point.
Speaking with Eurogamer, Cage said that if the E3 showing of the Heavy Rain striptease sequence made gamers uncomfortable, it had succeeded in its goal. (Warning: Minor Spoilers) The scene involves the character of Madison Paige trying to get information from a nightclub owner, but finding that he "only has eyes" for the girls dancing nearby in various states of address.
Paige has the option to retire to a nearby restroom to, ahem, "doll [herself] up" before returning and dancing to get his attention - and upon retiring with said club owner to a nearby room to be alone, she can produce a weapon to threaten him and get the information she's after. Cage told Eurogamer that Quantic had "had a couple of people who felt uncomfortable watching the scene," but that it wasn't a bad thing - in fact, that's "exactly what [he] wanted."
Given that Heavy Rain's cinematic, pseudo-quick-time-event storytelling relies heavily on player input to make things happen, said player would have to be actively pushing the buttons to make Paige dance. Cage had been wondering if having the player controlling her in this manner would merely result in a gamer who "would just enjoy getting her naked and have this teenage kind of feel," but that apparently doesn't seem to have been the case.
Of course, depending on censorship boards, who knows if said striptease sequence will escape condemnation by moral watchdog groups when Heavy Rain is released next year? Cage isn't worried: "[Y]you should certainly not count on me to censor myself, and say I can't do this or don't want to do that because it's too sensitive or too controversial or whatever."
On the other hand, if the striptease scene must be cut, they could always replace it with flying Dragonball Z Peruvian bums. It worked for Indigo Prophecy, right?
