Yay, Buddhism is now on our side!
That is definitely a positive outlook at video games. Glad to see a major figure viewing video games in a positive light for a change
I've always felt this way about gaming that its safe way to release aggressive tendencies. Just like modern sport is a non violent way releasing competitive energy.
I always loved Buddhism...
I like this man. That's one of the best views on games I've seen yet, and I am totally becoming a Buddhist now if I'm ever forced into picking a religion.
All in favor of converting to Buddhism? XD This man just became my hero...
+Points for buddhism :D I agree actually, if I feel like I can kick someone's ass online then I don't feel the need to do it in real life :P
I have always been a fan of Buddhist philosophy. A kind of "shit is going to happen anyway, so the question is, what are you going to do to remain balanced?" kind of attitude.
Yeah the video game industry has religious allies!
That's it, one more thing from Buddhism and I'm switching to their side. Now I just need to know that Dalai Lama plays Batman: Arkham Asylum and I'm starting my meditations the next minute.
My thoughts exactly good sir.
Agreed on all counts. It's good to see that someone recognizes the obvious health advantages that come from murdering dudes in a game.
Of all the religions that have been thrown in my face over the years, I'd have to say Buddhism would be the way I'd go. And I think it was quite ballsy for His Holiness to give his opinion of video games in such a positive light. I'm starting to put my faith back in humanity, for once.
Masterfully worded. I've always felt like video games release all my negative emotions.
I forgot about Buddhism. I'll NEVAR FORGET now.
Every God-fearin' man knows that Buddhists are violent heathens and are not to be trusted..
D'oh, pWNED by a monk... Now, there's a thought; Shaolin Clans on the Internet... hmm... -- Steve
Now, now, Batman doesn't murder people. Unless you count throwing them over tall bridges, exploding stuff under their feet or breaking arms and causing them to hemmorage to death. But other than that, no, sir.
Well, i think i have a new best friend. *Huggles monk dude*
finally, a voice of reason. Why do you think I play video games? It's either that or causing a few "accidents" in the mosh pit.
True, but I wasn't really thinking of Batman. I was thinking more Fallout 3.
cool. man speaks sense :P
that's pretty cool, tho the Buddhists are usually pretty cool and have a neat outlook on life
Tomorrow's Daily Mail headline just in... "Buddhist Monks promote killer games to train Tibetan freedom fighters!"
FUCK YOU BUDDHIST RELIGIOUS LEADER. WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR FUCKIN PROBLEM. Jokes aside, he is probably right.
I've always upheld this. Games, of any kind, serve to discharge all of our negative feelings and the natural pent-up aggresiveness and desire to compete that is inherent to humans. Without games, we'd be murdering each other now.
I thought Tibet was China :P I agree though i've always seen video games a way to let out my frustrations.
Finally, some praise from religion rather than just calling games the spawn of satan.
People said i was crazy when i said that Buddhism was the best religion. We'll who's crazy now.
There will always be some nutter who will ignore wise words and "crusade" against that which is new, thankfully, it isn't this fella.
It makes a refreshing change of pace doesn't it? Thank you Buddishm. The peace loving people are always the one to see the light.
This article turned my frown upside-down.
Woohoo! A religion gains a point! Though Buddhism is miles ahead anyway. Still it's nice to see some sense from a religious leader when it comes to videogames. Rather than the same tired "We must protect our children" line that's been spewed since Gutenberg got finished printing the Bible and moved on to saucier stuff.
This post makes me happy, because now I can say "I was a Buddhist before it was cool"

Buddhist Religious Leader Says Games Satiate Aggression
The Karmapa Lama - the only high-ranking Buddhist leader recognized by Tibet, China, and India alike - thinks videogames should be used to help satiate natural human aggressive instincts.
Trinley Dorje may be considered the latest reincarnation of the Karmapa Lama - the leader of the largest sub-school of Tibetan Buddhism and the only religious leader of his stature recognized by authorities in China, Tibet, and India - but he's also a twenty-six-year-old young man who has grown up in the modern age, and his tastes reflect that. In an interview with the Times of India, His Holiness discussed the current political landscape in the roof of the world as well as more mundane things such as music and his fondness for playing videogames.
When asked if he thought it was inappropriate for a Buddhist monk - a man dedicated to peace and serenity - to play violent war games, Dorje said he did not, and in fact supported videogames as a way to healthily release and satiate feelings of aggression "in the illusion of the game":
When asked if his meditation should be taking care of these feelings instead, Dorje replied that games are merely a "skillful method."
So in the future, should any of us be faced with the type of angry talking head ranting about how games cause violence (As seen on TV), we should point them in the direction of His Holiness Trinley Dorje. Because come on - if a senior Buddhist Lama isn't an expert on peace and tranquility, who is?
