Can you answer ten questions about a boy, his electric mouse, and a whole lot of games?
It seems like every time we pop into The Escapist's IRC channel, people are talking about Pokemon. Take a quick look around the forums and you'll find more than one thread discussing this long-running series about oh-so-cute pocket monsters and their trainers. It seems that you folks know quite a bit about Pokemon. Care to put it to the test?
If you're not a devout Pokefan, you may want to stick to our Normal Pokemon Quiz, which is tailored for the more casual player. If you've ever had a serious discussion about assembling a dream Poketeam, however, you may want to give the Impossible quiz a try. Or just take both. We don't judge.
Both quizzes draw from both the Pokemon games and the anime series and, as usual, you are being timed. You can take as long as you like, but your time will affect your position on the leaderboard.
Good luck!

I'm surprised I actually scored 8/10 on the normal quiz. but I more than made up for my normal scores with the Impossible quiz's 3/10 score -_- heh heh heh, I haven't watched pokemon in years. never even seen the ones after the original series :P
It's not even "devout" or "casual", it's more "did you play the series when it was good? (red/blue/yellow)" or "have you played the more recent games?".

Oh please. Don't even start.
Look, I love RBY as much as the next guy, but it's blind nostalgia. The current games just blow the old ones out of the water. Unless you liked playing a game completely dominated by psychic types with no real reliable counter?
You could never have the competitive scene you do today in the Gen1 games.

This.
Although, I have to a admit that it's getting a little ridiculous now- the new Pokemon are all relatively shit and it took it out of me to even buy Platinum. Compared to the two-tone days of RBY there have been massive improvements, though my favourite will always be somewhere between Crystal and Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald.

In some cases goggles are just too thick Funk, They complain about how the designs have no originality, how there are too many legendaries etc. etc.
When the designs were never original in the first one, I wont even give them the legendaries because they tend to EXCLUDE a previous regions legendaries.
But of course Pokemon is like Transformers-Lite. Every time it does... ANYTHING it has been RUINED FOREVER!!!!!!!!111!!!
Also I was upset to not find a single question in the Impossible Quiz on Pokemon Special.

Every generation has had its lame Pokemon. Tangela and Eggxecutor (or however you spell that one), anybody?
There are still some gems in the current gen. Empoleon remains one of my favorites of all time - you can't go wrong with a giant metal penguin. You just can't!

You do have a point about Empoleon, but throughout every game I always made a point to pick the fire Pokemon as my starter and was massively disappointed when it didn't turn out to be a pretty much unbeatable powerhouse despite my nerdy, selective training (see: Typhlosion, Charizard and Blaziken (also, excuse my spelling of the names, too)).
Really, I'm talking about the 'Legendaries', in their quest to make them the most powerful and impressive, things have got...well, it's all down to personal opinion, really, but Shaymin is about as threatening as a piece of buttered toast. At least Mew had the potential to be earth shattering!
dragonsatemymarbles: 8th in impossible. Got 80% on the first go, too - kind of surprising given that I know almost nothing about Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.
I have to say, there is an argument for at least two of the Pokemon on the "not like the others" question, if not three.
The actual answer is noticeably different from the others.

...I guess I'm starting to grow out of Pokemon.
You picked Infernape and it couldn't kill everything, you are doing something wrong because Infernape is pretty much Blaziken on STEROIDS.

My Guess Was
The last question had to many variables personally, it had more than one right answer in regards to any number of things. But hey thats how the cookie crumbles.

Maybe I just didn't like it because it wasn't attractive enough. ALSO IT SUCKED.
...personal opinion, I preferred Empoleon. It might have been due to the fact that I was battling against a friend of mine who spends the vast majority of his time playing Pokemon. Whatever, I'll go with the age thing.

Personally, the only generation whose pokemon I don't like are the second gen's. They all just seem so...bland. Even the starters are a huge letdown after we had a fire lizard evolve into a dragon and a small turtle evolve into a turtle tank. There was a lot of easily forgettable, non-evolving pokemon, many of which I only remember now because they recently got evolutions. On that note, Ambipom's design seriously creeps me out...

Same scores here, and pretty much the same reason, I think. I got to the question about the Legendary Pokémon and the only one I even recognized was Mewtwo. :?
Blargh. My Pokemon knowledge does not extend beyond Red/Blue. The normal quiz was easy as hell, but I had to guess on pretty much every question on the impossible quiz. =\

First, Ihave to say that you are a beast for being able to remember the rosters of the fighting gym leaders. I had to take the Impossible quiz four times because I didn't know that question. I was so sure Chuck used a Machoke.
Next, I have to say that the current generation had some awesome pokemon, and so did the previous one. Metagross, Slamence, Roserade and Garchomp are some of my favorites. As for the starters, I picked Piplup, but Chimchar was the coolest for two reasons: Flaming. Poo.
