Funny considering the Xbox 360 still has a lot of untapped power. If anything, if there was a PS3 release, it'd probably be a shitty port.
Oh well never mind. It's only splinter cell, it probably won't be as good as chaos theory anyway.
Will it become one with my 360 and create some kinda God machine and fix the sleath genre and then go around and stop the RROD? Okay, IDK, I'm a little hyper, but I wanna try out this game, only ever played one CS which was very mehy, so I wanna see if its got better, and what it's like. Good it's tapping in the 360's power that hasn't been used before.
This harkens back to what I've been saying about the hardware becoming 'too different'. Between Wii, 360 and PS3, the hardware is very different, so the only games that will push the capabilities will be games made exclusively for each platform. The industry kind of shot themselves in the foot with this one.
As much as, despite my first impressions, I ended up liking Double Agent, that's probably true. I hate the direction the series is going, I could only have fun with Double Agent when I started pretending it was some game other than Splinter Cell.
I had no idea prejudgment was such a contagious condition! OT: When they said "meld" with your 360 I wonder if they meant like with the rings of power that forms Captain Planet.
I wouldn't have wanted it on the ps3 anyway after what a mess double agent was. Probably just gonna get it for pc.
I'm tempted to poke fun at the quality of the soon to be PC port. It seems like more and more companies just don't want to bother with the difficulties of the PS3. Incidentally, I wonder what the PS3's "Install other OS" option was intended for...
Why did they bother with a PC port? Not only is it going to feel "consolized" (I mean, we know this now, they told us!) but ubisoft is primarily a console developer and at least always has been since the beginning of this generation. I don't know if this story is basically Ubisoft saying the 360 version will be better, or the PC version will just be lousy, but I still can't help but not see the point in making a PC version.
I'm doubting it can be compared as they're very different. It is by the team that did Chaos Theory and Splinter Cell (le originalé), i.e. the best ones. I think it looks fantastic.
Splinter Cell PC ports are always excellent (and superior), although DA on the PC was a bit of a bug fest. And PC gamers want to be able to play as well, so I say let us play it. Besides system specs for the 360 are fairly similar to the basics of a PC, so it's easier to port and refine. Plus the PC development is (supposedly) getting more time for refinement, as per usual.
I'm willing to bet it's full of xbox 360 jokes that only xbox player will get. (Theory)
Well, i'll probably pick this one up (in like 6 months)...
The series basically has nowhere left to go, and Double Agent was diabolical.
well im happy its still coming to pc, you can always count on ubisoft to keep supporting the pc *glares at doublefine with their stupid brutal legend*. hopefully it wont be a shoddy ass port like some games.
Yay! Not only will my 360 red-ring itself and melt, now my copy of Splinter Cell will too. I kid, I kid. Have to say, I'm undecided on Conviction. While some of the stuff Ubisoft have shown has been kind of cool, I'm more than a little pissed off at some of their decisions with this game. I don't want shitty sonar-goggles, I want my good old-fashioned thermal ones. I don't want shotguns, I want my SC-20K multipurpose assault rifle. And I don't care if Fisher's meant to have gone all Jason Bourne in this game, I want to be able to hide bodies dammit! It doesn't matter if I can take bad guys out in a hundred different awesome ways, I still want to be able to hide the evidence afterwards. That, to me, is Splinter Cell. None of this fast paced 'ultimate predator' nonsense. You pop the lights, you pop the terrorist, you hide the terrorist. So what if I just want Chaos Theory Pt 2? That game was the best damn stealth game ever, and needs a proper follow up.
Buy Hitman. Every time someone says "<game> is meant for [platform]", a fanboy spouts an opinion no one cares about.
Well I'm glad you feel that way. What about all the players that want to be the ultimate predator Now? After 4 games of pop the lights, pop the terrorist? Goodness, be a little altruistic will ya? you have a fantastic and large library of games for your play style already, let them try something different.
So they can whine about pirates making the PC an unviable platform after it sells badly on account of being a shitty port, arkham asylum style.
I question that after Gears 2 and a few other titles. It might have some untapped power, but I challenge the notion of a lot. Not that it should matter anyway, the games could look like Crysis, but if they play like Haze... This game should be good anyway.
I have been looking forward to this ever since they announced it. I can't wait
Well as a 360 owner i'm thinking yay for me but i still think console exclusives are a giant ball ache. And as i finally got to try a ps3 out the other week iv'e softened my opinion of them i may even at some point buy one. The ps3 controller can die a horrible painful death though.
I remain optimistic, but thus far, Chaos Theory is where the series peaked...
I'm hoping it all goes well. I had hopes they would to the whole "undercover" thing better...(although the 360 version wasn't too bad, the Xbox version wasn't too hot though)... So I am hoping they do the whole "stealth mixed in with Jason Bourne action" well...
That reminds me: I got a chance to play Chaos Theory (good) and Double Agent (er, ok, from what I've played, wouldn't play past the fourth level due to crashing) on my 360. I hope that this next one has the feel of Double Agent but preserves the gameplay of Chaos Theory.
Let's hope they manage to make it half decent. I never really liked Splinter Cell too much. Even back when it was on the PS2.
And why could it not be made on the PS3? Oh that's right, it could be, in every way it is on the 360. The dev is talking out their ass to pimp the 360 over the PS3 when in reality they are really the same in terms of raw power. What a joke. Oh yah, I don't care anyways as the last couple of Splinter Cell games have blown chunks.
Mind you that the entire Tom Clancy franchaise was born on the PC. All the Tom Clancy games where originally designed to be played on a PC and I do not see how this game would fair any worse on the keyboard + mouse setting. Why game publishers and developers choose to moronically say things like these is byond any stupidity and reason. It is exactly the same with the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed which developers assured was "ment" to be played on a console - even though the Jedi Knight games where born exclusively on the PC a decade earlier. Nowdays all Xbox360 games are developed on a PC so to mention that this game fits the Xbox360 platform better than anything else is what I call first-class premium high quality bullsh*t.
What did they mean, meant for the 360? I mean some games are "meant" for the PS3 like MGS4 and Uncharted 2, due to software constraints, but what does it mean, meant for the 360? I mean, I would understand games like Halo 3 being meant for the 360 because Xbox Live is superior to PSN in some ways and the fact that it focuses on multiplayer. But how can i game that focuses on single player be "meant" for the 360? Both consoles are incredibly similar, only that the PS3 has Blu-Ray and more space for games, and 360 has a better online. And also, I don't know any other stealth game better than MGS4 right now except for maybe Deadly Shadows.
This. | |
Well if its melted with the 360 what are we pc gamers supposed to do....plug in a gamepad?
I think it means they are gonna show u some new tricks with the hardware ,Sony has more space but John carmack pointed out wAy back that 360 reads faster, making it better . But what do I know , just another overweight gaming troll ,
More than half the population of this forum apparently :D anyway I kinda see what they were getting at, the development of the in game world to support the 360 hardware rather than work despite it, I mean I have seen my fair share of subpar games chugging away at my 360 like it is an old fashioned train, such as mercs 2, however to use pandemic as an example, their next game, (le Saboteur) runs very smoothly on the 360 with no texture pop and the hardware inside ticking over nicely, the difference? an extra couple of years to get to know the hardware and how to work with it, the way I see it, Ubisoft are turning this to 11 with their latest game, given that they have had lots of hands on time with the 360 console and pretty much know it inside and out as well as M$ and Bungie, which is why they are announcing that they can make the best of it. But as blueindian3 said, I am just another... rather muscular actually... gaming troll
Trolls unite ! Hopefully all games in future will push the tech of whichever machine they are on instead of just making deadlines ,
I really hope it kicks arse. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is one of my all-time favorite games.
Splinter Cell: Conviction is "Meant for the Xbox 360"
Ubisoft says Splinter Cell: Conviction, the latest addition to the long-running stealth-action series, is "meant for the Xbox 360, and it will show."
In a recent interview with CVG, Ubisoft Montreal Producer Alexandre Parizeau emphasized the importance of the company's relationship with Microsoft, calling it a "really strong partnership" and saying it would do everything possible to ensure that Splinter Cell: Conviction is "indebted with whatever the Xbox has to offer."
"It's really cool to be able to focus technology on one platform, to be able to really exploit it to the maximum of its capacity," he continued. "We've been working with Microsoft for a while now. We've been working with their engineers - we've had super good feedback from them on all sorts of different things. It's been a really good partnership with them."
Despite Parizeau's comments, the game isn't exactly being developed for just "one platform" - a PC version is in the works alongside the Xbox 360 edition. But Ubisoft confirmed in June that there wouldn't be a PlayStation release, calling it a "true Microsoft exclusive."
"I want to make sure that when the game hits the shelves the disc will 'meld' with your Xbox 360," Parizeau said. "It's meant for the Xbox 360 and it will show."
