"Epic Mickey" Confirmed Exclusive to the Wii

image

Non-Wii-owners hoping to get their hands on Warren Spector's reimagination of Mickey Mouse are out of luck: Despite rumors, the "Epic Mickey" project is a Wii exclusive after all.

Yesterday, we reported that sharp-eyed gamers had noticed that the text describing the "Epic Mickey" project as a Wii exclusive had quietly disappeared from the Game Informer landing page, leading to speculation that the title might be headed to other platforms as well.

As it turns out... nope. The text had been pulled, but it hadn't been done to hint at the game's platform of choice. Rather, the GI staff had been hoping to formally announce that tidbit of news once the actual issue hit stands this Monday, explained Andy McNamara.

We were trying to save this nugget for when the magazine hits this coming Monday, but it seems the rumor mill has gotten out of control and it is time to put it in its place. Disney Epic Mickey is indeed a Wii Exclusive. If there is another version in the works out there for another system, we certainly aren't aware of it.

So we can let all the "Game Informer got it wrong" stories sleep. But since we tortured you a bit, we figure we owe you at least one nugget of goodness. If you look closely at the cover on this post, you can see a small figure peeking out - we can confirm that that is indeed Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and that he plays a major part in the story of Epic Mickey.

The revelation that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is on the cover artwork dovetails nicely with the leaked information, and McNamara teased an "amazing" update to the landing page to come tomorrow.

Damn. This looked like the first Disney game I have been interested in, but I'm not "Buy a Wii" interested.

And where is Oswald on the Picture?

That's fine, I didn't want Epic Mickey anyway... stupid Wii. *cries softly in corner*

Hopefully the upcoming information about the game will make me want to buy it. My Wii needs some more play time, and hopefully this is the game for it.

He's peeking out of the gateway on the left side of the image.

I might have to pick this up.

Makes me glad to be one of the Escapists to own a Wii.

A Ha! there he is. It's like Where's Wally?

Is it just me or does it look like Mickey is facing the fourth wall? I mean, before I found out it was his head turned opposite what I just said, it looked like he had a nose sticking out, then it was a shoulder...

Then again if that was his nose his arm would be placed in an odd way.

Didn't the Wii just drop in price tho or did i hear wrong, it would be more intensive to buy one.

Ahh, shucks.

Then again, we haven't even seen any game footage yet and already everyone is drooling over it. The concept of the game looks really cool, but so does the concept of Communism.

Although I'm slightly saddened by the news I'm also a little glad, I need a good reason to turn my Wii back on. It's been like...wow I can't even remember the last time I turned on my Wii.

It dropped by $50 not to long ago.

yesssssssssssssssssssssssss, my fear of it being on anything but the wii is gone. Not trying to upset all you other fanboys, but it's nice to have an exclusive that everybody else wants, like halo or uncharted, or resident evil 5 because we wii owners didnt get it even though 4 is on the wii and resident evil 5 is the same thing.

Oh, hey, this may be a reason to dust off my Wii for once. Maybe.

Man oh man I wish I gave a shit.

Thank god my sister got a Wii for her birthday! :D

i'll read a review before i buy it for that useless, dusty white box in the corner of my living room.

Ah, that's quite comforting. Everything that we know about this game suggested it was being made completely with the Wii in mind, so I doubt a PS360 would have any significant improvements.

And this is a guilty pleasure, but I'm getting quite the kick out of the people who were saying they wouldn't purchase it for Wii but for other systems. Game Informer is causing a lot of butthurt on the internet with this news.

I bet that's what lot's of people said to him when Mickey came and stole his spotlight.

Dosent family rock?!
man, that whole ' mabey its not a wii exclusive after all!" thing was shot down quickly.
I want to play this game even more now.
it looks disturbing and amazing at the same time.

I wonder if there's a Godwin's Law for communism references.

In any event the reason everybody is drooling over this is because it's Warren Spector. Seriously if you had a track record like Warren Spector does, you'd have crazy people spelling your name in boldface all the time too.

Ah well, I've come to terms with the fact that it's a cheap knockoff of Okami already. (And if you'd like to prove me wrong, you can make a gameplay trailer ahead of schedule, so uh... you can prove me wrong, yeah that's it)

BioHazardMan:
Man oh man I wish I gave a shit.

Nice of you to add substance to the thread.

OT: The prospect of a Warren Spector game, exclusive to the Wii is starting to tug at my wallet. Might just have to shell out for one during the holidays.

It's hard for it to be a cheap knockoff of Okami when it's being funded by Disney's insane amounts of cash and has a storyline that has nothing to do with Japanese mythology.

Also Warren Spector

This seems really awesome, Crisis Core made me buy a PSP could Epic Mickey make me buy a Wii?

nah i'll borrow my friends if i bought a Wii then i really would have every system, no dice

Woop, hear that folks? That's my years of denial that the Wii doesn't exist waking up. So in effect now that this game has been confirmed as a Wii exclusive I should warn you all that should I ever be asked anything about Epic Mickey I will respond

"Epic Mickey, never heard of it what system is it coming out for?"

if you tell me "Oh its coming out on the Wii, man I can't believe you've never heard of it; its been all over the news!"

and I'll say "There's that system again that people just keep insisting exists, I've never seen any evidence to prove such a crazy thing. I can assure you if such an amazing system existed it surely would not have so stupid a name as 'The Wii' imagine the horrible jokes one could make with that."

Oh and yes, you're completley right, I shun and deny the existence of an entire system(and all games exclusive to said system) based solely the fact they changed the name from Revolution to Wii. Far as I'm concerned Nintendo never came out with another system after the Gamecube.

Lol yeah, now I just have to convince my mom that my dad TOTALLY wants a PS3 for christmas and I'll have all three and be totally set :D
And yeah Epic Mickey sure does look good (so far)

I own a Wii, but the question is, is a half assed control system mixed with money wasting controllers that don't simply recharge (As any good gaming technology does nowadays) really going to be worth it for this game? I haven't dusted off me Wii in awhile, and I sure as hell ain't forking out more money for what should already work properly just to have it upgraded to bareable..

I'm a bit confused about the "controllers won't recharge" argument, please clarify, especially seeing as how my Wiimotes are the only things currently running on a rechargable system.

Cue crying.

Well I wish I could say that, but it's been fairly civil so far.

I think the only gripe I would have had is the Wii version being watered down, though there are PS3s in the house, it wouldn't have bothered me too much if it was on Sony's console.

BioHazardMan:
Man oh man I wish I gave a shit.

Oh wait, never mind. ;)

If you didn't give a shit, you probably wouldn't have posted. Sounds like someone's ass-pained.

Nintendo DS charges. Nintendo SP charges, my wiimotes the came with the console require a few AA batteries to function...

i think theres a wii in my house somewhere, might give it a go.

the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo GBA SP are not controllers. They are handheld consoles. I know what you're trying to say but it really doesn't hold a lot of merit and since, as I said, I have a recharge system for my Wiimotes (at $20 no less) I'm not really sure it's that big a deal.
