Bruce Willis Signs Up For Kane & Lynch Movie

Bruce Willis has signed on to co-headline the upcoming Kane & Lynch movie, but who will be his partner in crime?

Bruce Willis is a cool guy. He's been beating the crap out of people on the big screen for more than 20 years and yet somehow, even with his 50th birthday long behind him, we still take him seriously. He even looks the same; if some Hollywood genius decided to remake Die Hard, the obvious choice for Bruce Willis' role would be Bruce Willis.

But before he wastes any more Eurotrash mercs, he's going to take a crack at the videogame film genre by way of Kane & Lynch, based on the not-quite-a-hit game that came out in 2007. According to producer Adrian Askarieh, who previously worked on the 2007 film Hitman, Kane & Lynch has had "two and a half years of false starts" but will begin filming in March 2010.

The film is being directed by Simon Crane, a veteran stuntman and assistant director on movies including Tomb Raider, Troy and X-Men 3. It will have the same "basic premise" as the game, but won't follow the specific details. "It's essentially the story of a mercenary teaming up with a schizophrenic psychopath to save his wife and daughter," Askarieh told GameDaily.

"The script has been incredibly well-received around town," he continued. "After Bruce Willis read it, he called it one of the best action scripts he's ever read, and Bruce is an expert in terms of action scripts because he's read everything over the last 20 years."

Willis will star as Kane, of course, while Lynch - the psycho half of the team - has yet to be cast. I've never played the game myself so I'm not exactly an authority on the matter, but from a purely physical perspective I can't think of anyone better suited for the job than Tommy Chong. The world's most famous stoner as a deranged, homicidal lunatic? Hey, after Paul Reiser became the biggest sleazebag in the galaxy in Aliens, I'm open to pretty much anything.

Can you imagine Mel Gibson playing Kane?

[edit] To clarify: Two of the more famous action stars starring in one movie. Gibson, who already played a fairly distraught individual in the original Lethal Weapon, would be pretty good if he were younger and not so crazy in real life. Just an idea. But I didn't actually play Kane & Lynch so I'm completely sure what kind of crazy we're looking for, or really anything pertaining to the character.

Willis doesn't suprise me, what does suprise me is the fact that K&L is being made into a movie and is credited as "best action" from Willis. Somebody's going off the deep end.

Roger Ebert will give it 2 stars, only to be fired due to "unrelated" circumstances later on, after re-scoring it at 5 out of 5.

He is getting on in years but he has aged really quite well I must say. Either that or makeup artists are absolute geniuses. Both are possibilities. To say I'm excited about a Kane and Lynch movie would be a lie. It might be good, it might be bad, but I doubt it'll be "all that."

It's gonna be weird if they include the bank robbery from the game in the film, because the robbery in the game was already a pretty obvious rippoff (or homage) to the film Heat.

Quite surprised that this is being made into a film, but it sounds like it has potential, and with Bruce Willis on board it will probably get some serious attention.

Billy Bob Thornton.

Bruce Willis is great and all, but isn't he like 54? I just hope that he's able to do some of the action scenes. Since he's in it though maybe the movie won't be terrible. :]

Poor Bruce, he has to make due with what he can get on his old age.

I still liked him the most in Death Becomes Her as the dorky middle-aged surgeon/undertaker Ernest Menville.

Did anyone else think the game was already based off of a B-Movie when it was announced? Not one I'd ever heard of but still. Don't know why that was.

If anyone could do it right, it's him, but even still I don't think this'll do very well.

"Willis will star as Lynch, of course, while Kane - the psycho half of the team - has yet to be cast."

I played this game last week (And enjoyed the hell out of it), but isn't Lynch the crazy guy? I thought Bruce would be Kane. Maybe that's just a little accidental slip..

taken with a grain of salt but...
hey they seem to be trying?
I mean it's been reported the Halo movie is still in planning because for quality control
and hey if people are actually trying to make good video game movie adaptions now then well...
wait, nothing we haven't heard before
let's just wait for the films to come out first lol

Other way around.

Unless Bruce Willis is to play psycho Lynch...

I don't understand why this is a movie. Why not just make a new IP? The game was pretty crappy, so it's not like the brand name "Kane & Lynch" is going to guarantee that everybody who's played the game will watch it.

One the other hand, Bruce Willis might.

One good thing about Kane and Lynch is that it ultimately spawned a good game review site.

I actually think that this movie may be good. I did enjoy Kane and Lynch and I will proably enjoy the movie.

Yeah, I got it backwards. Not sure what I was thinking there, but thanks for the heads-up.

That didn't stop die hard 4. (which was pretty awesome for a supersequel)

I think this is a good idea. Willis would be pretty good for the role, and this is the one game that I want to be seen turned into a movie.

As a game, it was average; the combat was somewhat boring, and the multiplayer was lacking. But, it had great music, a great cast and a really great plot. So, as a movie, it would work.

People take popular games and turn them into movies regardless of how good an idea it is (Street Fighter, House of the Dead, Mario), but this is possibly the first time where a bad game is being turned into a good movie, instead of the other way around.

Well, I guess I can say I'm looking forward to this movie but I skipped on the game so there's a decent chance I'll skip on the movie as well. Heck, I'm skipping Surrogates so that proves that Bruce Willis no longer has that much pull at the box-office for me.

Sharp-witted as always.

I think there could very well be some potential here. The premise behind Kane and Lynch had always fascinated me. So much so, in fact, that I was actually somewhat surprised that the game was not good.

I wonder if a movie critic will get fired for saying the movie sucks?

Besides all of his career-making roles I liked him in Lucky Number S7even, his role alone should make the movie interesting.

How much you want to bet that 25% of the time he will be in an air vent?

Oh boy! I can't wait to see a movie from a director of three of the shittiest movies ever!

I suppose one thing this movie has going against it, is it will have someone at the helm who did 3 so-so movies as an assistant, and this will be his first being the head. But surprises have occured before. Though why Quentin T hasn't grabbed this I dunno. I have to bet good odds Bruce hasn't even touched the game, so he is looking at the script with a fresh eye. It is also possible he was being sarcastic and is just doing the movie for the hell of it, not expecting much out of it.
I haven't played the game myself, though got a good second-hand feel for how it goes, compared to related fare that I have experienced. It's hard to figure who would make a good counterpart to him, except perhaps....Gary Oldman! Don't get me wrong, I worship his role as Commissioner Gordon, but he's gotta give us at least one more of his trademark psychotic roles. Or Mark Hamill, even. Guess it depends how over the top Lynch is.

sturryz:

No bet, but one has to wonder if he'd do the voice for Gordon Freeman, if they were to do a cgi Half Life movie. (And now I have infected Half Life players with Bruce one-liners the next time they crawl in a vent. Unless they watch Freeman's Mind a lot, like me.)

teutonicman:

Considering they would find work within 12 hours, it wouldn't matter. Better question is, would a movie critic get ran over on the street if they said the movie sucked?

Maybe the movie based on the game will spawn a game based on the movie? (Wrap that around your head a few times!)

Is this going to become some sort of horrid Ballistic replay?

The game based on the movie released before the game actually based on the movie upon which a game is made?

Like everything he's in he will be the best part of the movie. Somehow I don't think he'll have to try hard to do that.

Jeff Bridges. Hes big and can pull of long hair and a beard

He can't wait to start making Die Hard 5 ... So yeah xD

At any rate, I have a positive hope now that Bruce is in it.

The Bruce Willis movie equalizer is in effect.

For all good movies that he plays in, he must also play in a movie that is equally as awful. He hasn't done anything really good in a while so I can only hope that something epic is on the way.

If the roles really are swapped around then Bruce looks like the long-haired balding sweary bearded one out of the pair.

He's already starred with him in Bandits.
