I'm expecting some Steampunk, but being realistic, there's not a lot you can do in 200 years. Maybe nicer gear, that's it.
Anything which lets me kill Cliff Racers and Mudcrabs with greater efficiency, I can get behind. I wonder if we'll see M'aiq return? Do Khajit have long lives?
I'm not all that surprised really. At the end of Oblivion, there was alot of trouble a-coming for....
Perhaps in the 200 years the world of Cyrodil managed to become slightly more interesting and now amounts to more than a really big green meadow...
Sounds awesome :D But I wouldn't really like to see guns, it may ruin the fantasy aspect. What I really want to know is where it will be set.
And fix'd. | |
And yet they'll still be casting magic, using bows, and spending all of the Empire's science budget on executing scientists.
NO. No no no. This a very bad idea. Elder scrolls does not need guns that is Fallout's niche not ES. EDIT: for clarity. I believe that with that type of year gap they can't help but bring guns and shit into it and that is not good
I'm with you I could never finish an elder scrolls game it just gets so tedious, on the other hand I thought fallout three was great and its basicaly the same engine. Maybe bethsada has learned from that.
It's only 200 years...It's not like TES's going to be futuristic or anything. The most you can hope for are muskets.
I'm hoping for a storyline not driven by outer dimensional things which threatens all life. I'm hoping for more people and kingdoms to be the big root of the problem, but that's just me. Oblivion XX, 50,000 after Oblivion V, it's in space! Just something to ponder on how long they can keep a title alive.
The OP didn't say anything about guns. And besides, in a world full of magic, old style guns would seem alittle pointless.
Erm... that's just Oblivion... There's loads of other ways they could bring hell on
Hey, if Bethesda just learns how to animate my character running diagonally this time, I will embrace it wholeheartedly. Evin if the game is centered around riding sheep on the moon and the only weapon is a gun that shoots underwear.
NO!!! i hope to god they don't make it have more modern technology...thats like one of the main reasons I'm never going to play fable 2... they have freckin magic for fuck sack they don't need guns!!!!!!! i can't stress that enough...
Not a lot?! We went from hopping around with paper wings to a space station in less than 100. Also, very promising, seeing as Oblivion seems to take place in regular medieval times, 200 years later would be late Renaissance times, which is completely awesome. Steampunk would be even more awesome though, but that's the mid/late 1800's, this Elder Scrolls game will be about 1500-1600 then.
I hope there are no muskets... But- YAY TESV!!!!!!! Although I wouldn't mind airships... :D
I can't remember the name of the book in Oblivion, but it was about exploring Dwarven ruins, and they seemed rather steampunk-esque, so perhaps Dwarven technology is being more widely implemented?
Not a lot you can do in 200 years? Look at where we were 200 years ago. OT: Meh, doesn't sound good. I didn't like the modern stuff in Fable II and I'm not going to like it here. Seriously, it would take the entire charm of the fantastic world with elves andn demons(and unicorns) they have created. Why would I fear a any of the creatures in the world if I have guns(if they advance the weapons like it happened in Fable II)?
Oblivion with guns! :D | |
I think that's more or less because of our access to technology and the motivation of war to produce better technology. Oblivion is set in a pretty stagnant period in time, the equivalent to our medieval or dark ages, in 200 years, don't expect to have a flushing toilet.
You're all assuming that the universe these games take place in will follow in Earth's technological footsteps.
Wow. I hope they don't overdo it. I don't know whether I'd like guns in TES...
Because they will be silly muskets, not a great weapon against a troll that's storming towards you, it's not like 1 shot is going to stop it. Fable 2's guns were overpowered, real muskets don't preform nearly as good as the one's in Fable 2.
But will the game come out in 200 years ?
I hope they don't move on too much from the whole medieval theme. That's pretty much built into the essence of the series.
Listen up you primitive Orcish screwheads, this is my BOOMSTICK. It is a Daedric Double Barrel Top of the Line, does Paralyze and Fire 35 for 2 seconds on Strike, Has over 100 charges when full, and a hair trigger. This sweet baby was made in the dark waters of Oblivion. It retails for around a few hundreds souls and you can find it by serving the Daedra. Shop Dark... Shop Daedric Relic! You got that!!! Now I swear, the next one of you green primates, even TOUCHES me... YAAaaaaaa!
I know, but a realistic musket would suck! You'd reload for one minute before you can shoot again and accuracy would be terrible.
Muskets and junk like that? It'll make the series much worse, exactly as with Fable 2; lost any atmosphere the first had with the stupid setting. :'(
Someone else put forward a pretty good scenario, after Oblivion the Empire is left without an emperor, queue civil wars to fill the void of power, goodbye stagnant period. I'd love to see some inner turmoil, something different from the standard "evil demons want to kill us all" spiel. But as Max pointed out, we have no idea how technology progresses in the Elder Scrolls universe. The dwarves were pretty advanced, but they're wiped out. We'll just have to wait, I expect to see at least things like crossbows and maybe muskets/flintlock pistols. Think Assassin's Creed 2, that era, sure it had guns but they weren't the most effective weapon out there just yet, and I hope to see the same in the new Elder Scrolls.
Think of them being an opener weapon, that's what I thought they would be in Fable 2 (sad they ended up being overpowered): you rush towards your opponent, confuse/wound them with a pistol shot and while they're dazed you rush in with your spells and melee weapons. Again, think Assassin's Creed 2. Ezio will have a flint- or matchlock pistol in his sleeve, but it's not a weapon to rely on in battle. Also, I really don't see why people are moaning so much about guns. Oblivion had bows, and game-mechanic wise, guns won't work very different now will they? If anything, they'll be worse: way longer reload times, a lot more noise, heavier, just more damage but that's one shot.
Why have guns when you can have factions fighting for control of the empire after the fall of the struggling empire with ?
Jesus. That's a really long time. The Nerevarine and the Champion will be long dead by then... sad face...
I think that with Bethesdas current situation with Fallout, we'll see a more war-torn wasteland with a new Daedric threat. In fact I'm putting my money on it. There's also going to be one abandoned Dwarven stronghold stocked with advanced weaponry which a resistance group will get a hold of.
I'm Thinking magic powered machines as mounts, and possibly some kind of battle armour(maybe unique) powered by forces of magic and assembling the pieces would be the main quest, cause look at Aylied technology, maybe they've mastered it by now. Also, All Hail MaxtheReaper!
Perhaps in 200 years they'll have toilets (the more observant players will know what I mean here...) :P

Rumor: Next Elder Scrolls Game to be set 200 Years After Oblivion
A UK Bookseller's website let slip that the next Elder Scrolls game mightbe set two centuries after the massively successful Oblivion.
The slip came in the form of some sales blurb for the upcoming Elder Scrolls novel Infernal City by Greg Keyes on the UK bookseller Waterstones website. The text has since been edited away, but read:
"A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."
If this is true, not only does it confirm that an Elder Scrolls V is in the works - not that that will really come as much of a surprise - but also gives Bethesda plenty of scope to do something interesting with the game; Vvardenfell with renaissance level technology, maybe even hunting Cliff Racers (to extinction) with a musket? That sounds pretty cool to me!
