Brütal Legend DLC Coming in November

image

Rocktober is almost over but November will take it up to 11 with the release of the first Brütal Legend DLC pack, Tears of the Hextadon.

Tears of the Hextadon will feature two new multiplayer maps: The first, Circle of Tears, features a circular battlefield carved by "vile waters" that players must battle through in order to destroy their opponents, while the second, Death's Fjord, puts players on an icy mountain pass overlooking a dense pack of fans ready to be harvested - but only by those willing to break cover and expose themselves to their enemies to do it. The map pack also includes a new axe, the ominously named Blade of Ormagöden.

"I play Brütal Legend online every night," said Tim Schafer, the big cheese at Double Fine Productions. "And I need more maps! Circle of Tears is named after the crying of my vanquished foes on the battlefield, and Death's Fjord is obviously a tribute to my Nordic ancestors, and their love of fan geysers and... Well, actually I just thought the name was cool."

I have no idea what a Hextadon is but it sounds f'n metal and that's what really matters. Tears of the Hextadon comes out on Xbox Live on November 3 for 400 Microsoft Points and then lands on the PlayStation Network on November 5, where it will be available as a free download until November 19, after which it will cost $4.99.

This is seeming to be like Left 4 Dead where the only ones having to pay are the 360 users.

Bah, what the game really needs is a third part to the single player game where you do a set of missions against the tainted coil armies(and prehaps some more variation in the sub-missions). there's like 10 storyline missions against Lionwhytes humans, 10 against the drowning doom, and a grand total of 1 against the tainted coil.

Oh and a Hextadon is like a mammoth with giant razor sharp metal tusks. If I was more internet savvy I'd put up a picture.

I know, right? I was like, "All right, I'm 2/3 of the way through the game, and... what? It's over?"

Also, I agree with the need for single player DLC, but that will probably take quite a while more to make, so I wouldn't expect it to come out until April 2010. Most likely even later.

awesome!

but no extra story missions :(
'tis a shame, that game was way to short.

Multiplayer maps? Ugh. I was hoping for something I might actually want. If they allow you to play in teams online then I might be more interested but at the moment I have to play one on one and anyone I get matched up with is irritatingly good.

I'd much rather have some more singleplayer stuff, but fair enough.

I'd happily get the map pack and donate the five dollars worth of Microsoft points seperately since I enjoy this game so much, but since we have to pay for it, less people will have it. Since less people will have it, it'll be less use online.

Thanks a bunch.

PS. I'm enjoying the multiplayer quite a lot, so I don't mind that the DLC isn't for the single player but I wish that they made something more substantial than two maps and an axe.

I guess greedy Microsoft were the ones who forced xbox owners to pay for it. Old Bill not got enough money?

ya know, i've been playing the game for the second time thru. the story is very short but i find the real fun of the game isn't in the missions or even the sub missions (i personally hate the death rack bullshit, it's only managable once you get the homing rockets which are a cheap stupid weapon - but really really fun :p)

no, the real fun of the game is exploring the landscape. so i guess I'm glad they are going to take their time and put a solid effort into new single player content, which will hopefully add more to the map and add more missions and a variety of sub missions. atleast, I'm assuming this is what they're doing. maybe Tim is just enjoying himself too much punishing us mortals on multiplayer. I wonder which system he plays on normally? I'm starting to get the hang of the multiplayer pretty well but I've only played the AI so far.

btw the hextadon is possibly one of the coolest animals in the game. did you know that you can ride almost every animal? just shock the shit out of it until it kneels down, and you'll hear Eddie say something like "be still while I mount you!" which I thought was a joke at first, but then I hit Y and started riding a panther. with lazer eyes. then I came, all over my roommate. he was pissed; it was awesome.

yep, hit the nail on the head. xbox live doesn't allow ANYTHING to go without a minimum of points being exchanged for it. that's part of why Valve hasn't bothered with DLC for TF2, microsoft would force them to make it episodic so they can monetize it, which would make it completely different from how they've released updates for the PC version

New maps for multiplayer is fine but, I want new multiplayer factions. General Lionwhyte would be great as long as its not just a glam rock clone of Ironheade.

I'm trying to picture Bill Gates in his home office, as he is retired now, and saying, "You know what would add a insignificant addition to my pocketbook? Making gamers pay a few dollars for that Rock and or roll game's extra fighty maps. yeah... let's do that."

Not that it's not greedy on Microsoft, and I'm not trying to be all crazy here. I just think it's funny when a company makes some low level decision and people blame a figurative top head.
"I went to Disneyland and Space Mountain broke down. That Eisner is too busy counting his money to worry about quality."

A Hextadonn is like a huge wooly mamoth with crome plated tusks.

Well, that's a nice bonus for people who play on the PS3, if you act fast you can get it free. Honestly map packs are not terribly exciting news. What you really need, I mean what we be super awesome cool? New FACTIONS.

Every genre of music has had the audacity to call itself "rock" at some point, and in doing so, they have unknowingly given heavy metal an excuse to destroy them utterly.
Hair Bands and Goth Rock is just the tip of the ice berg, the rotten disgusting Ice Berg.

First up, maybe Country Rock? A bunch of guys in cowboy hats firing shotguns from the back of a pick up truck or maybe something more creative?

Just an idea. Maps are cool too.

Aww, no new single player stuff? I am saddened.

I agree, it pisses me off to no end, they're the richest company in the world and yet we're the ones having to pay, greedy bastards.

Anyway, my friend wille eat this up seeing as he's been playing Brutal Legend (don't know the key for the umlaut) for the past fortnight with little to no breaks.

At what point did free patches become cost-worthy DLC?

yeah for free PS3 DLC

happy it's free, not sure i would have got it if it i had to pay for it, tho i would like more story

AkJay:

When they stopped being distributed by the companies themselves. If Valve, Blizzard or X company wants to host and pay for the bandwidth to offer a free patch - that's their own decision, but it is a little harder to suggest that Microsoft or Sony host it for free and eat the bandwidth cost.

Really? That's it? Ten dollars US for two multiplayer maps and an ax? Come on Tim, you can do better than that!

$5, but the point still stands.

Rockvember, anyone?

Malygris:
Blade of Ormagöden

Oh I see what you did there.
Anyway, sounds great, will get when obtained the game.

Probably...

Well, thats a little disappointing. I was hoping for an extended story mission.

this game shot straight to the top of my favourites list and its just securing its place for a while more now :D

<3 double fine

400 points for 2 maps? Wow that is a bit pricy. I could understand if there was a new army along with it.

And no I am not a anti DLC protester. Some are definitely worth it. This doesn't feel like it though.

Malygris:
Blade of Ormagöden.

Oddly, I didn't think "Armageddon" when I read that, I thought "Orma guden".

Bring on the Side Quest DLC!

or when they get put onto the 360 cause they don't like giving anything away for free

AkJay:

When the growing consumer base of those who hopped on the bandwagon of the hobby known as video games were speaking with their wallets as Microsoft created Xbox live to see if the third wave of gamers would be willing to pay money for the concept of "online console gaming".

That's when. So I blame every parent, child and frat boy who started gaming with an Xbox and decided it was a smart idea to pay money for something where the gold standard(PC) and competitors were offering for free.

Yep. It's starting to get old too... I doubt anything will change anytime soon though.

While it is true that some new story DLC would be very well appreciated and loved by fans of the game ( like for example me) some new multiplayer maps and weapons will do just fine for now. Although some new multiplayer modes would also work, but for now we'll just have to be patient. (FREE FOR THE PS3, HELL YEAH BABY!!!)

Hmm... looks like i'll have to buy the game before november 19.

Oh no, I fell into their trap!
