I need to drive that around the M25 for a half-hour, just to see what happens. No! Drive it through Whitehall. I can see no way that driving a Warthog past Number 10 could be in any way a bad idea.
Dang, some people have devotion up the wazoo.
That is sweeeet :) | |
Wow. | |
I wonder what the insurance would be like on that thing? I can almost hear the telephone converstaion now.
Screw driveable Warthog,i want functional RYNO! But that one is pretty sweet too. Shows what incredible feats people are capable of when they have too much free time.
How much you want to bet someone is going to highjack that thing... HALO STYLE!!! Assuming you can drive it, of course.
I don't get it, you almost sound like you dislike them for doing what they find to be fun, Funk. Doing something like this could well open many doors in Hollywood for them, if it turns out to be at least decent. If I had the time, money and skills to do that stuff, I'd definetely tag along. It seems like a fucking blast.
Is it Operation Chastity because he can't get out of that suit? Or I'm I late to the whole making fun of the name party?
Not at all. Best of luck to them. I can understand doing something like that as a labor of love, but it's a mindblowing amount of dedication.
This is pretty crazy : / But I guess that with everything you'll have crazy obsessive fans...
Wow. I wish I could drive.
Am I crazy in thinking this movie might ACTUALLY be better than most full-fledged high-budget hollywood game-to-movie productions? Mostly because these will be true die hard fans that, supposedly, get the game they're converting, and have to compensate the lack of budget with good'ol creativity and ingenuity? ...Or it'll suck so hard it'll implode, that's also possible... But the warthog looks amazing.
I want one. Is that wrong?
That actually looks pretty badass. Fan films can be good if there is a lot of love and dedication involved.
Not to rain on these guys parade, but a fully functional Warthog was already built for the Halo movie short a couple years ago...soo while this is cool and all I gotta ask why they would bother with it if it's already been done.
Why are they crazy? Who wouldn't want a full-size model of something from a great video game?
i was there when they unveiled it, pictures dont give this machine even half of the credit it should receive, that thing is freaking awesome!!!
I'll be happy when I'll have a full-size Scorpion tank. EDIT: Or maybe have a morning drive with this little buggy.
That is amazing! Must have taken them ages to make. And required a lot of patience.
I was at that Expo and saw that. As someone who came not for the games but for the animé I was pleased to find that Warthog there. Mainly because IT'S A FREAKING WARTHOG, but also because it represented what lengths fans will go to. Going to look forward to the film, just hoping it doesnt turn into a right stinker.
In other news, I have just announced (here in this thread) my intent to create a real-life Druid Plow (the Deuce from Brutal Legend). It'll be based on a '32 Ford T-bucket, with a supercharged crate engine, 30" racing slicks on the rear axle, and a big yellow "Y" button ignition. and real homing rockets and side-mounted subwoofers. and a fuckin' tape player. oooooooooohhohhohhooo yea, it's gonna be MMMM-GOOOD
Much as I dislike Halo, that really was a cool thing they done; to sink that much money and time into that takes real dedication.
Go compare, my friend, go compare.
Wow I guess some die hard fans have way too much free time. Oh wait it's Halo fans so obviously.
Does it have the turret and everything? I want one. EDT= no it does not. Still want one.
I knew (or at least occasionally chatted on IRC with) Pete Cooper when this was just an idea he had, over a year ago now, and to be honest I didn't think it would happen, but here we are. He went from idea to script to getting people together and getting started on props and concept art rather quickly. The first I remember hearing about the Warthog build being underway was last winter so it definitely took some time. He has an estimated budget of 30,000 British pounds for the whole project and says it could wind up being anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000. The Warthog is completely drivable, last I checked it was street legal in Britain, and it's only a few cm shorter and even less of a difference thinner than the in-game model (there's another Halo fan in Canada unconnected with this who does his best to get accurate measurements of everything in the Haloverse, and the dimensions of some things [I think including the Warthog] have been released by Bungie). He was going to make it authentic-- i.e., metal and fiberglass construction-- but budget constraints meant he had to have some more prototype-ish parts-- with the paint you can't tell though.
Thats cool. They're very devoted. :D I wonder if they could make me the Mako from ME??
This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-js_jF7qeak IMO the one made 2 years ago looks better to me...
Well, all things considered, that'll look damn good on the writer/director/producer's resume.
I actually want to see this movie.
For me one of the best multiplayer vehicles since it's just so damn cool and fun
Yes, fans sure are crazy... Oh, you mean the people that take a large amount of interest in something? Yeah, they're crazy too I guess... I mean, who else who spend mountains of cash on a model of a video game vehicle?
Well you gotta admit that being one of only a few people in the world to actually own a Warthog would be pretty awesome. Unless you live in a snowy region, in which case the experience gets downgraded to very, very cool. ^_^

Halo Fan Film Unveils Full-Scale "Warthog" Jeep
The creators of the fan-made Halo film "Operation Chastity" took to the show floor at the London Expo to show off their gorgeous hand-modified replica of the series' "Warthog" combat vehicle.
There's something to be said about the passion and creativity of hardcore fans. Who else would spend hundreds hours and thousands of dollars creating something that they're never going to see a single penny from (well, not legally, anyway)? Who knows how much time and money it took to convert an old Land Rover into a gorgeous, full-size M12 'Warthog' LRV from the Halo games for fan film "Operation Chastity"? It certainly wasn't quick, and it likely wasn't cheap.
Well, all right, we might not know how much money it cost, but we know how much time it took for workshop Custom Creations to turn a Land Rover into an all-terrain combat vehicle - the project was in development for a full year, reports Pixelated Geek. "Operation Chastity" writer/director/producer Peter Cooper, who unveiled the vehicle at the London Expo for all things geek-related, said the project is due to start filming in March, and he hopes to enter post-production by November of next year.
Oh, and Cooper expects the post-production to take eight months or so if all goes well. So, if everything goes as planned, we'll be seeing "Operation Chastity" in the second half of 2011. That's two years from now, and if the Warthog took a year to build ... yeah, this'll have been a labor of love three years in the making. And for what?
Fans sure are crazy.
