Japanese art site Pixiv is holding a fan art contest to celebrate the upcoming film Twilight: New Moon, and one of the judges is none other than Mr. Metal Gear himself.
Didn't see this one coming: Renowned game creator Hideo Kojima has been tapped as one of the judges for a Twilight fan art contest run by Japanese art site Pixiv - think DeviantArt, only Japanese. The contest is meant to coincide with the upcoming Twilight: New Moon, the movie based on the second book in Stephanie Meyer's ridiculously successful novel series about teenage vampires that sparkle in the sunlight.
Kojima is one of three judges, all of whom are reportedly "huge fans" of the series according to the Pixiv announcement. He will join Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, who is best known for his work as the character designer and manga creator for the landmark Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Ryuji Gotsubo, creator of the manga Sasameke and illustrator for the Japanese releases of the Twilight novels.
All three judges have their own prize packages to award to the winner as they see fit: Sadamoto will be giving away an autographed painting set, Kojima an autographed copy of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Gotsubo "an autographed set of the first three Twilight tankōbon novel volumes," according to the Anime News Network. The Pixiv community will also be able to choose 10 winners of its own, who will each be given two tickets to the film when it launches in Japan on November 28th.
Kojima strikes me as more of the Team Jacob type than Team Edward, wouldn't you say?
Empty pit, soul crushed, don't....know how to..respond. Maybe it's not so bad. Yeah, maybe he's just a fan of comedies that aren't supposed to be funny. Yeah yeah yeah yeah that's got to be it.
Sounds about right. The Metal Gear story is absolutely terrible, so it only fits that the writer of said story likes a series of books that is equally terrible.
... I've lost respect for Hideo Kojima. I just... damn it. This pisses me off to no end. This just proves that no matter how awesome someone can be on what they do, they can still have opinions that make them look stupid. At least in my eyes, Hideo Kojima is a little dumber for this. MGS is still one of the greatest series ever, but Hideo... He just isn't as awesome as before.
Those books are the best comedy of our generation, hands down. Anyone who disagrees sparkles.
I can agree with that about the movie. In fact, I plan on writing a review about it for a friend's site. But the books, on the other hand, are depressing. And that last one is fucked up, big time.
Aren't we forgetting that this is the same guy who's working on the new Castlevania game?
I was hoping there would be a little side-quest where Belmont would go and slaughter the entire cast of Twilight...but now that dream is now history...
>< I hate Twilight now. Marketers are now selling Conversation Hearts as Halloween Candy because of that movie! But anyway, that's another rant. I was a little surprised at first, but as I read the article it made sense. Long, complicated stories with an abundance of characters with cliche-remade-anew trappings aka monsterisms. Sounds exactly like Hideo's own material.

OH LAWDY Tha movie.
BEST. THING. EVER. I watched it like a day before Halloween, and I swear to you: I have never laughed so hard. I actually passed out from dry-heave laughing for two hours straight. Whoever made that was a genius.

Exactly! It was my favorite comedy from last year! :D
So let me just get this? This Kojima guy can't speak English but reads American tween novels? I call shenannigans, from what I've seen of this guy he's nothing but a media whore. Willing to do anything as long as it gets him in print or in front of a camera.
Off-topic (WHO'S SURPRISED), but your avatar reminds me of something from "The Temper Trap."

Twilight has been translated into other languages. I think the title is literally "My Boyfriend is a Vampire" over there, or something. I recall reading that somewhere so it must be true.
I also love how the author manages to depict a seriously abusive relationship but still make it hilarious.
But the scary thing is that the author herself doesn't know the books aren't serious... I tend to research things I dislike/hate a lot so that I got enough ammo to sustain myself in a "Why do you not like XXX" battle, and boy, I got a lot of ammo towards Twilight and the author. Did you know she more or less ignored her children while she wrote the books? And that she said she would leave her husband without a second though if Jacob or Edward showed up on her doorstep? I tell you, you can read about Twilight and the author for days and still find little nuggets of comedy gold.
Not a large fan of Metal Gear Solid games, but if I were I would be insulted by it's creator liking such a horrible horrible horrible injustice that has been done to vampires by a crazy person. Mind you I hate vampires anyways, but I would concede outside of the 10,000,000,000 weaknesses they have they are cool. Sparkle in daylight? Makes me want to harm someone.
