Quick and dirty. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 427 Joined: 20 Oct 2009 | hah on the day i canceled my pre-order for the PC version, my local GS retailer had over 800 pre-orders for the game. this is of course 3 weeks ago. so yeah they might as well just not stock any other game that day. there isnt enough self space for all the MW2 :P
Assuming they actually have a shortage <.< it would be comical if they arent short. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1416 Joined: 16 Jan 2009 | Honestly I could now care less. I play through the fantastic single player 4 times in a week, and then what? Multiplayer is what gives it any sense of longevity whatsoever. And they ruin the whole shooting match just cause they can. Fuck it. |

Nah, they won't sell out of game disc though. Considering my store has about 200 of them(360) and 24 (ps3) when we normally get 12 of each, i'd say we are good. |

Haha, that was good. |
Wordsmith Extraordinaire Posts: 11834 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | I wonder how many of those pre-orders are for people under 18. I also wonder how many of those will be happily fulfilled. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2626 Joined: 20 Feb 2008 | Congrats video game consumers. We have effectively increased the price of video games again from here on out. Look forward to video games costing $70 in the US and $90 in Britain and the rest of the world. Yeah for the uninformed consumer base! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3111 Joined: 25 Aug 2008 | I fail to see why this is so huge, I mean I enjoyed COD4, it was quite fun, but no better then a whole load of similarly good games I've played. |
Muckraker Posts: 257 Joined: 17 Oct 2009 | Ugh, I hope everyone else doesn't hike up their prices. |
Muckraker Posts: 284 Joined: 10 Dec 2008 | I don't get why this is huge. It's a typical war game like every other war game out there. CoD MW is good enough for me. |
Paperboy Posts: 50 Joined: 4 Dec 2008 | I preordered at Amazon which gave me $20 towards my next videogame purchase. Seeing as how I've been planning on buying 2K10 for the PC ($19) I'd say that's a good deal making MW2 effectively $40 new. |

GameStop doesn't operate in the UK, so it might be my fellow countrymen have blockaded the price hike... but I doubt it... |
Beat Writer Posts: 155 Joined: 8 Jul 2009 | I am not surprised. Perhaps I should preorder that now. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 879 Joined: 3 Feb 2009 | I work in a game store and we've had about 400+ preorders, which is a lot considering we aren't in a major city or anything. In fact the store convinced the mall we are in to let us do a midnight launch for the first time ever. It's that's popular. |

The pre-order scene wasn't as big then as it is now, right? Eh, fuck it: the images are still hilarious, though Amnestic's gets my vote for actually having the text. I guess that this shows two things: that the pre-ordering scene is getting bigger (sort of obvious, given how many pre-order bonuses are popping up), and that MW2 will sell like hot-cakes. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2981 Joined: 31 Jan 2009 | Or, as Kanye West might have put it if he were a GameStop spokesperson delivering an incredibly overused joke: "Look, Halo 3 and Wrath of the Lich King, we're really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Modern Warfare 2 has the most pre-orders of all time. Of all time!" I lol'd a this |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 524 Joined: 14 Apr 2009 | Meh. I'm preordering it because I preorder quite a few things. Not because it has some apparently godly qualities. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 903 Joined: 19 Sep 2009 | This is actually kind of ho-hum-ish. I mean, how many people seriously thought that this wouldn't happen? Almost on par with the experiment receintly conducted verifying quantum mechanics to be right as the most unsurprizing news this year. But still, that Kanye West thing is pure comedic gold. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2162 Joined: 29 Mar 2009 | In other news, grass is green and people make lots of jokes about Chuck Norris on the internet. Seriusly though, this isn't very suprising. This is a huge game that is about as popular as Halo 3, but since it's multiplatform, it'll sell like hotcakes in notime. |
Nobel Laureate Posts: 24967 Joined: 11 Jul 2009 | I completely saw this coming. Anyways, I also pre-ordered it. I can't fucking wait |

One of those under-age pre-orders would be from me, on play.com Yay for parents' credit cards! Also if I don't receive my game on day of release because of the postage strikes I'll be pissed. |

Y'know at first I was incredibly suprised it passed Halo 3 in preorders but now that you mention it the multiplatform would definetly give it an edge. It's is the biggest release since Halo 3 and with it out for 2 systems and PC I guess it does make more sense. |

Looks like? When is it not... People act like controversy has ever effectively fucked with sales. Advertising maybe... Sales no. I would expect if Glenn Beck knows this that everyone on the Escapist should (seeing as everyone here is more intelligent I'd hope)
Be interested in knowing what % of people are in the same boat. I bet somewhere in the US a group of Military Generals who want to initiate a draft are getting dangerously bloated erections as they think about all the people buying this ;). |
Copy Clerk Posts: 117 Joined: 22 Jul 2009 | If the Steam store 'Top Sellers' list is anything to go by, PC gamers ain't interested. Although I do expect it to jump to the top when it's released, that is until L4D2 arrives. |

Modern Warfare 2 Is GameStop's Most Preordered Game Ever
Not even raging controversies can stop the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 behemoth - GameStop has reported that the title has the most preorders of any game in its history.
Now, it's safe to say that Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 is an extremely controversial game, and it hasn't even come out yet. Nevertheless, controversy appears to do nothing to stem the flood of gamers eager to answer the Call of Duty.
Tony Bartel, Gamestop's executive vice president for merchandising and marketing told USA Today's Game Hunters that demand for the title was a literal peak for the specialty retailer: "By all indicators, we anticipate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time ... As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we've taken for the game is the highest for any title we've ever sold in our 6,200 store network."
Or, as Kanye West might have put it if he were a GameStop spokesperson delivering an incredibly overused joke: "Look, Halo 3 and Wrath of the Lich King, we're really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Modern Warfare 2 has the most pre-orders of all time. Of all time!"
GameStop isn't the only retailer that is planning midnight launch events, either - over 2,600 Wal-Marts across North America will be selling copies of the game at 12:01 am on November 10th, with the first 20 customers getting special editions personally autographed by the Infinity Ward development team (which is 52,000 signatures in total, if I'm reading that right).
Meanwhile, Amazon.com has been searching for the "The Call of Duty-est Town in America" judging on the number of pre-orders. At the moment, the top spot is held by - dramatic pause - Grand Forks, North Dakota. Okay, didn't actually see that one coming. Go figure.
With all of this, it's no wonder that MW2 is expected to be the juggernaut of the holiday season - and arguably the biggest reason why every other game is now coming out in Spring 2010 instead.
