BioWare Announces Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition

image

BioWare has unveiled its plans for a limited Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 2 and this time around, PC gamers won't be left out in the cold.

Like most BioWare games, the original Mass Effect came in two flavors: A standard release and a gussied-up Collector's Edition, which included an art book, a bonus content DVD and more. Unfortunately, it was available only to Xbox 360 owners; the studio elected not to put out a special edition of the PC version when it came out six months later.

The playing field will be leveled for part two, however. BioWare announced today that a limited Collector's Edition will be available for both platforms when the game is released next year. The Collector's Edition will come in a metal case and include a 48-page hardcover art book, the first issue of the Mass Effect Redemption comic book, a second DVD filled with extra content and special in-game weapons and armor that will be exclusive to the CE.

"We're really excited to roll out this Collector's Edition featuring so many unique items, including special Collector's Edition armor and weapons and content that will surprise Mass Effect fans," said BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka. "The limited edition comic book and bonus DVD will really enhance and expand the overall Mass Effect 2 experience."

Mass Effect 2 hits store shelves in North America on January 26, 2010 and January 29 in Europe.

Oh, oh!

Time to kick the OCD into action, and go to my local Game store every time I'm near it, just to get a preorder. :D

Metal case? MUST HAVE!

The art book, comic book, DVD and special in game stuff is just a bonus. Must have metal case!

I may considering switching my pre-order for the normal version to the collector's edition.

Im getting it!

ITS LIKE A TOASTER ONLY it........isn't..................... I miss my toaster, I wonder when he will come back from Mars..........

Im kinda wondering what the weapons and armor are going to be. One guess is simply Specter Gear, but with the Dragon Age stuff, I'm not so sure.

I'm a seeing this? They are actually releasing a game to the PC, that isn't a port or released for the consoles first? wow, Defiantly going to buy this just because of that.

The new cover is so much better than the original one, unless I can save like 20bucks by getting it on steam via the USA i sure as hell am going to get this.

Sounds like a must buy for BioWare junkies like moi. :)

I really want this limited edition version

I must have this. I'm gonna go pre-order it. :D

Any news of how much it'll cost?

Hmmm... I'll probably get a standard copy.
unless...

Malygris:
a 48-age hardcover art book

Oooo, old, like a good wine? :P
sorry, I'm evil.
although it would be interesting if they had concept art from the 1960s for a game 50 years later. Conspiracy Theorists would go nuts.

$69.99, that's probly the 360 version and the PC version will probly be $59.99

guess i'll have to preorder this as well. too many games not enough time

Let's hope EA doesn't screw over us UK Bioware lovers with our Collector Edition like they did with Dragon Age.

You won me at 48 page hardcover art book.

Will be switching my preorder to collectors soon.

Whoo totally pre ordering this I love metal cases, that and the cloth map are what sold me for buying the collector's edition of DA:O

Turns out EB games got the exclusive for this in Australia.. anyone know any good places in America or Europe that have preorders for this and ship internationally?

Eh, not enough to sell me. The exclusive content is just weapons, and those won't last, as I'll get better ones in game at some point.

How much is the Collectors Edition?

I heard about this before; I'll definitely be preordering this like I did with Dragon Age: Origins, once I can pony up the cash.

What he said!

You know, this may be my first Collector's Edition.

That is worrying me too, can't seem to find a UK price for the collector's edition, hope we will get it! Nothing showing on Play or Amazon yet...

I hate when they put stuff like weps and armor in the collectors edition available only to those who would pay more money, doesn't really seem fair, cause its like not getting a part of the game just cause i didn't pay more than the game costs.

In other words: Must. Have.

I got the first ME's collector's edition as well for that reason, though the artbooks and stuff included were REALLY neat.

Can't wait to grab the CE of this game as well.

:O I love Steelbook cases. My Far Cry 2 one is uber sexy, and I think the ME2 one could rival its awesomeness. I'll be getting this fo' sho'.

And I'm always a sucker for extra content. That armour and gun look pretty crazy/ cool.

Better be on sale in the UK though. I cant see it on Amazon or Play.com, but it's on the USA amazon and gamestop :S

Am I the only one that dislikes things like this? >.>
The extra content for the game itself (armour/weapons/etc.) is either merely cosmetic or unbalancing the game.
Kind of like the nonsense with the Halo armour in Fable 2.

I'm fine with CEs coming with physical bonuses like concept art, 'making of' features and such, but including in-game content is just fucking bullshit. BioWare has a history of pulling this kind of shit and I wish they'd just fucking stop already.
