With the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 just around the corner, Infinity Ward has released one final trailer to promote the game's single-player campaign and get itchy trigger fingers twitching in anticipation.
Who knew that the sweet musical strains of Marshall Mathers fit so well with scenes of carnage and destruction? I sure didn't.
Lately, it seems that there's been quite a storm of controversy around Infinity Ward's massively anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but said controversy has been solely aimed at the game's multiplayer - okay, I guess there was a bit of controversy for the single-player campaign, too. Of course, none of that has stopped the game from being one of the most eagerly-awaited titles of all time.
The above trailer showcases scenes from the single-player campaign, and I have to admit that even as someone who probably wasn't going to pick up the game right away, it's looking pretty awesome. I think that this trailer's particular strength is that it shows fast and furious combat in a huge variety of settings and situations. There's urban combat in what looks like a bombed-out developing nation, there's suburban combat in the streets of the U.S.A. (but we knew that already), there's fighting in snow, in the desert, bombarding what looks like a medieval fortress, and it goes on from there.
There is one bit that has me scratching my head, though: At 0:57, there's a very brief sequence that unmistakably takes place beyond Earth's atmosphere. I'm assuming that it's just a cutscene of sorts, because even a guy like Soap MacTavish probably has no business being out in space. It does make me wonder about the context of the scene, and why we'd be messing around with satellites in Earth orbit instead of gunning down bad guys on the ground.
Infinity Ward seems to be striving for "Most Cinematic Game Ever" here, and personally, i think they've done it... I was going to wait till i renewed my Live subscription to get this, but right now I'm think about getting just for the single player.
Christemo: saw this yesterday, and it looked pretty cool. i do, however, still doubt i will buy it after IW´s cockslap on the PC gamers.
edit: oh, and btw John, the space thing is presumeably a level in the Internation Space Station (which would be pretty awesome).
...I don't get how that would work. Not only is the ISS actually pretty teeny, but something about shooting guns in such a small space where you absolutely do not want a hull breech strikes me as a bad idea...

Since when was Infinity Ward stopped from making awesome scenes by something as petty as logic?

That's probably why it's exploding lol. Anyway that trailer really was absolutely badass.

i didnt say that it make would sense, i just said that there´s presumeably a level there.
I saw this the other night. it looked pretty sweet. Now i really wish i had a 360. The only thing that worries me is, how are they going to make a level work in space?
maybe the space station has something to do with the russian missles that can shoot down satalites?? could be the start cut scene. what starts it all of. or maybe a fail mission cut scene as i cant see it having a level on the ISS. realy small and made of tin foil in space... bullets are bad.

could be a part of the storyline, maybe one of the missiles form the first game is launched at it? after the nuclear detonation scene, its possible.
but I liked how if you notice, but I'm not 100% about it, the guys with the riot shields [btw, plastic does NOT stop bullets IW, it stops rocks and blunt objects, even some sharp ones.] are near an airport, so a good chance of having the terrorists killed [after the leader leaves of course, in his black limo with his white cat.]
also, in the suburbs scene it looks like there is real damage to the house the APC was shooting at, of course "cutscene", but Im starting to wonder if its in-game as well.
also, Eminem, in my video games? god I hope not, I gave up the '90s dude, leave me alone!

head over to wal mart on the weekend and buy an arcade and get the 100$ gift card, oh and I can not wait for this game, unfortunately I have to.
My guess is that the space level might be that one extra mission after the main game. You know, where they can try experimental ideas without the constraints of a story.
Clearly space-ghost pirates of all the innocents you mercilessly slaughter at that airport come back and capture a space station, and you're sent to to take care of them.
Meh. If I remember correctly from the last Call of Duty games I have played, most of the awesome things happening are cinematic in nature. So the game itself is pure run/cover and gun, right? So I am just as impressed as always by this game. Which means I am not impressed at all. Much rather want Men of War after reading the article here yesterday. Now that is an impressive war-game! But I don't have money for it... so damn you Escapist! *shakes fist*
Wait, the games not out yet? Then...how is my cousin already playing it? No seriously, I could understand if he was some dirty pirate leeching it before the UK release but how is that possible if the game hasn't even come out...?

Unless he imported from Japan or something.
Unfortunately, it's been leaked.
Ohh... right then, I suppose that -does- make him a dirty pirate. Still since we come from Dorset near the quey I guess that's rather fitting. Arr.
Still, shame the multiplayers going to be utterly lopsided in the favour of thieves then. I think I'll avoid asking to borrow it, if this is the case.
Anyone want to read how and why the PC version of this game is just a ported console version? How Infinity Ward has screwed over the PC community and does not seem to care?
Modern Warfare 2 has long earned the ire of PC gamers for its lack of dedicated servers, but Infinity Ward has now announced that it's taking away much more than control over hosting with the game in one long face-palm of a question and answer session. No servers, no console, no mods, no problem!
i am really upset about the space station clip... kind of a major spoiler IMO.... way to blow what i'm guessing is the end of that level IF! (based mainly on assumption, I know, but cmon... how do you survive that?)

I'm guessing it'll be a semi-interactive cutscene, like the part in the original when you get executed... I'm guessing the terrorists launch a missile at the satellite to impair the US' ability to defend against an attack on their own soil, meanwhile you control an astronaut for a brief period of time while you see the station destroyed from up-close.

No, not really, too busy watching a space station go ka-boom. But if your that bothered by it, then don't get it. Simple.
OT: it's all looking good, but I'm intrested in this co-op thing they have. Looks like a load of fun.

I doubt it's you (the PC) as although you can use any weapon without training, most soldiers aren't trained for space. More then likely it's this:

I'm betting it'll be like the introduction of the first one. You know, where you watch the events through the Middle Eastern fellow's eyes. It's probally some everday, unknown kind of astronaut doing some kind of routine check, when BOOM! The terrorists blow up the Ameircan satellite.

Yeah, it's been "in" stores for 2 weeks now. We have about 500 just sitting in boxes in our stockroom. So quite a few ppl i'm sure have grabbed a copy.

Modern Warfare 2's Launch Trailer is Really Badass
