Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer DICE would once again like to remind everyone that unlike certain other development studios that shall remain nameless, they love the PC and are doing their absolute best to ensure that the platform gets all the attention it deserves.
Between the dedicated server uproar and the fact that people who bought it through Steam still can't actually play it, the PC launch of Modern Warfare 2 has been a bit of a mess. That's a fact not lost on the guys at DICE, the studio behind Battlefield: Bad Company, which isn't pointing any fingers but did take another opportunity to point out that its new game won't treat PC gamers like second-class citizens.
The PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is being "tweaked and adjusted" to fit the strengths of the platform, Gordon Van Dyke of DICE told IncGamers. "On the PC, it's a PC version, which is getting that same treatment, and then also a little bit more as PC users are generally used to a different type of experience than console users are, and we recognize that and we want to make sure that we give that to the PC market and give the console market more," he said.
He said plans to release modding tools are still up in the air, describing the situation as "really, really complicated," but added that he hoped to get something out to the community. "Once we start getting there and the engine gets to a level where we can release tools that are easy for our own guys to use, and then easy for people publicly, then we'll get into that and we'll really start to focus on it," he continued. "But it's definitely not something that we're like, 'Oh, we won't do that.'"
DICE announced last week that a PlayStation 3 exclusive beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 would begin in November and Van Dyke said that plans for a PC beta would be announced at a "later date."
I gotta say the Bad Company people are definitely good at PR. Good for them if they can flip MW2 into a selling point for their game. Sure they really aren't offering anything new, but at least they can say "hey we aren't cutting features!".
Awesome, as a game company, if youre making a multiplatform game, your job is to cater to each platform's strenghts as much as possible, this will lead to positive numbers for them.

I guess thats the reason the Wii version of WaW sucked too much ass.
Furburt: I know they're being arrogant but I'm going to buy it anyway. I always like the BF series.
You can't expect a company not to jump on the debacle that has been IW's handling of the PC for MW2. It's not likely these announcements will turn any possible sales away and will only seek to boost BC2 sales from people none too happy with MW2.
Arrogant? Maybe, but them not doing this would be silly.
maybe not adding anything new but common? blowing a path way through a building to kill your enemy by surprise because of the fabulous frostbite engine is a feature on its own which is a massively fun thing to do :D i didnt care much for battle field bad company 1 because it had pretty heavy controls but on pc its gona be awesome (hoping adlist)

they could of made it better.
That's activision, and as has been established, they give 2 drops of p*ss about what people want.

Hehehe
Do we have to guess which studio they're talking about?

It's clearly either Blizzard or Valve, both studios with long standing hatreds for all thing PC related.
Didn't Dice show how much they love PC with the Battlefield: Bad Company PC version? Oh wait... Still I hated Bad Company on the FAILBox, will be buying BC2 though, looks like it might be good, hope I am not mistaken.

I think this is the first multiplayer FPS offering destructible enviornment. Red Faction was a TPP.

I wonder who on Earth you could be talking about when you say that... hahaha.
oddly enough I never cared about buying mw2 in the first place but after seeing some stuff about bf2 because of it, its suddenly on my radar and Ill probably end up buying it
CantFaketheFunk: "its new game won't treat PC gamers like second-class citizens."
As opposed to the demand that they be treated like the ultra-first-class of the world, yes.
I'd agree with you if we were getting the same treatment as consoles. PC gamers really ARE treated like second-class, and Modern Warfare 2 is just the match that lit the fire. There are very, very few developers out there that treat the PC equally to the consoles. I'm not looking for better treatment than console owners, but I'd certainly like to be treated as important as them.
At any rate, good for DICE for taking advantage of this whole situation and ensuring that PC gamers will receive as good an experience as our console brethren.
AlexTaldren: No, as opposed to the demand that they be treated like every other gamer and get a game that is actually designed for their platform, yes.
This ^
Other than that,i was a bit dissapointed when the first one didn't come out for the PC.I'm pretty sure i'll buy it (though i'd like to try a demo first just in case).

Can't argue there, theres a bloke at my uni who is the biggest PC elitist he actually tried to hit me for owning an xbox 360, claimed i was "some jock prick" and should leave the computing society because I probably don't know how to program anyway!
Luckily for me I am a physically fit nerd who is capable of dodging an attack from a greasy overweight fool
OT I am sure DICE are going to do what they can to capitalise on the situation, it only makes sense, I'll be getting the 360 version of course, my gaming PC doesn't get much use at all any more, with any luck their "special treatment" of PC gamers won't translate to simply not catering and specialising for the console audience...
Okay, Now i OWN THE ENTIRE BF FRANCHISE, exception being 2142's DLC, but that's no big. (even have BF2:MC on 360, expacks for 1942 and 2,) I understand that DICE didn't release B-company on the PC, as it would suffer a bit of crysis effect, except that it NEEDS the physics power from modern cards (8800 and greater)to be playable, and they didn't really have time to make a decent PC version, unlike this time around (or so it seems) I know i'll get it for 360, come springtime, maybe PC aswell, depending on how december's demo runs on my machine, and what upgrades i may need for it. but ATM i am very happy with playing BF2, aswell as B-company1 especially the wonderful mods like PR for 2.
Malygris: its new game won't treat PC gamers like second-class citizens.
Since when has equality been "second class"? I know equal rights has shown the world that minorities have to be treated better, but PC gamers are not an oppressed minority, they just happen to have a more customisable console.

PC's and consoles are different platforms. Period. There is no good reason to try and combine the two groups because then they loose all their individuality. In this case, that's exactly what Infinity Ward is doing and the PC has lost 99% of what makes it an unique experience. Fair treatment is all well and good, but it can't happen if the game is exactly the same on cross-platform. True equality would mean that the game is tailored SPECIFICALLY to the strengths of each system it's released on instead of forcing all to conform to the strengths of ONE.
