The PS3 Will Inflict Michael Bay on Your Grandma

I'm not exactly sure, but I think the latest Kevin Butler "It Only Does Everything" PS3 ad is warning consumers that buying the Sony console will influence the elderly to watch special-effects bonanzas on Blu-Ray.

You know the deal by now: Funny, intelligible ads that actually sell the PS3, I'd marry Kevin Butler were that sort of thing legal, etc.

The latest "PS3 Only Does Everything" ads move away from talking about the system's lineup of games for the moment. In the first, an unhappy grandchild bemoans the fact that he doesn't get to game on his PS3 because his grandmother is using it to watch her movies on Blu-Ray - specifically, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. While I understand the kid's plight at not being able to play Uncharted 2, were I him I'd be more concerned with why exactly my grandma was watching Explosions 2: Revenge of the Hard-to-Follow Fight Scenes. Is this a side-effect of buying a PS3? Should Sony put warning labels on these things?

The second seems more traditionally commercial-esque than the others (not that you can officially define such a thing, but I digress) as it features our man Butler working out a deal with a Best Buy employee to offer a PS3/Sony Bravia TV bundle, yadda yadda blah blah blah. If you really want to advertise that sort of bundle, Sony, stick with bashing them together on high-speed camera. The best part of ad #2 is the latter half, where two grown men spend 15 seconds just shouting the word "Boom" at each other. Not the campaign's best effort, but entertaining enough.

Come to think of it, the Michael Bay addiction might explain the "Boom" part. My god, we might have an epidemic on our hands.

That's how I wish my lectures would be sometimes. *sigh*

Thought the first advert was better personally, but they're both pretty decent. Better than the creepy baby one.

I think the Grandma one is much funnier and catches my attention more.
Off Topic: Kevin Butler looks like one of my professors.

Gentlemen, I do believe we have the battle of the catchphrases:

1) "With a Stick!"

2) "Boom!"

In general this ad-campaign is pretty decent, especially when compared to some of Sony's previous efforts, but I find the voice that announces 'PlayStation' at the end just incredibly annoying.

Am I alone in this? :/

been that way since the PS1, it will never change unlike the SEGA voice.

OT: I bash the Ps3 alot, but even I will admit that these new commercials are tons better than the launch ones that made zero sense.

the baby, the egg, ect., dear god what were they thinking?

I vote for "...with a stick", it can be used in so many sentences, example:

Michael Bay will blow your mind.... with a stick!

Chuck Norris can beat The Sims 3.... with a stick!

Kevin Butler once again does wonders to what was once a mediocre advertising department.

I love the catchphrases.

You just floored me man. With the funny meaning.

The second ad is inferior for the reason John mentioned. It moves away from the concept. It does not compare with the first or the one with a PS3 being slingshoted at a TV.

I had seen these on TV over past couple days, and frankly it's getting to the point of almost wanting to actually buy a PS3 if only to show support for Kevin Butler.

If my grandmother actually liked that PoS movie I would kill her... again. >.>
So yeah, associating the ps3 with that crap may not be the brightest idea. Would be like making jack black the 360s official mascot.

Why thank you sir, on the advertisement though I've got to say it's quite memorable advert.
I may have made a avatar of it but my friend had enough love for this ad to place a stick next to his PS3. Odd...But that's my friend for ya.

He's no longer allowed near my PS3 however, I fear he may stick C4 on it.

I don't think Bay deserves all the crap he gets. The first Transformers movie was good as long as you ignore Shia and Megan and while The Island had a lot of stupid scenes, the premise was awesome.

LEAVE BAY ALONE!!!!!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!(If you don't get the joke, too bad)

I'm amazed at how effective these campaigns are. Normally Sony have proven to be completely incompetent at selling ANYTHING without completely screwing it up (PSP Squirrel).

I actually don't like the new PS3 Slim, takes too much away without adding enough, but I'm happy with my old PS3 60GB and online upgrades mean now there is a decent selection of videos on PSN (in europe) and I can just buy them direct without any of that point buying bullshit you get on 360, which just makes it hard to figure out exactly what you are paying.

Then I'm liking PS3's easy to upgrade HDD combined with PlayTV which is such a better way of watching TV, and blu-rays are finally selling for sane prices (£8-12) and I'm looking to be getting an actual HD capable monitor (1080p) which have also come down to sane prices.

Against all my predictions PS3 is becoming my favourite platform, second only to my PC (luvs mah PC) and my 360 is becoming... well it's lost a lot of it's shine.
