8-Bit Christmas Album Supports Child's Play

image

Even if you don't enjoy chiptunes, purchasing this new 8-bit album is a great way to donate to a good cause.

Let's face it, if you haven't donated to Child's Play in one way or another with the myriad of methods that seem to be everywhere, you probably exclaim "humbug" when you see happy children. Don't despair, you now have yet another chance to donate to the cause by supporting a new 8-bit Christmas album that was created with some serious skills.

The album, 8-Bit Christmas, is presented by Rush Coil and can be found here. Aside from the fact that it rocks, my favorite part is how most of the songs have some kind of NES or other chiptune inspiration. For example, "O, Christmas Tree" contains the beat from the Woodman theme in Mega Man 2, and "Deck the Halls" smacks of indie hit Cave Story, though I could be wrong on that one.

There have been other holiday chiptune albums in the past, but I think 8-Bit Christmas is my favorite by far, just due to the variety and depth in each song. The album can be listened to in its entirety at 8bitchristmas.com, but can also be purchased digitally for $4, while physical copies run $10 with free shipping. The proceeds go right into the coffers over at Child's Play, which provides entertainment to children in hospitals.

If awesome music doesn't help you donate to Child's Play, well I'm plum out of ideas. Do it already!

Love that they allow the people to listen to the songs before they buy.

I have to ask. Are these royalty free and usable in video content? I looked on the site but no luck.

$4 sounds like a deal.

Since I haven't bought this, I'm forced to say humbug. Because you can't argue with the mods!

Humbug >:(

Pretty cool. I listened to Silent Night, and it makes me think of a Legend of Zelda dungeon, or the intro scene to Oracle of Ages.

Very cool, unfortunately all the physical copies seem to have already sold out :(

ha i already downloaded so much to childs play from desertbus but i guess ill grab.. or download a digital copy since hard copies are now gone

Since Litte Drummer Boy is my favourite carol, all I need is 30 seconds listening to this to tell me that I must buy this, and since it's for a good cause...

*Hands over money*

Woo-hoo! Bearable christmas music!!

Finally! I had found Anamanguchi and loved them and have been looking every where for more 8-bit bands. I gotta get this!

THAT'S what it's from! It's definitely the dungeon theme from the original. Was bugging the heck outta me because I knew I recognized the melody, but I couldn't place it. My two faves are What Child Is This using the Kraid's theme as an intro/outro and Little Drummer Boy using the same intro tune from the Black Jack's Theme from FF6.

Edit: Actually, according to the notes that came with the files, apparently The Little Drummer Boy is actually meant as a homage to the Blaster Master Area 1 theme. Though you have to admit, the two songs do have a similar start-up (and I was always a huge fan of Final Fantasy where I never played a lot of Blaster Master):

Blaster Master Area 1
The Airship Black Jack

Also, it turns out we were both wrong about Silent Night. The song was apparently meant to have more of a Dragon Warrior feel with a mix of Final Fantasy (specifically a song from FF6).

Wow, this is probably the coolest CD ever made. I like the sound of a Mega Man xmas :P

Also, I have to pass this up, no matter how insignificant: 8bitchristmas.com
