First Fallout: New Vegas Trailer Hits the Tubes

The first trailer for Fallout: New Vegas is now available, offering a tantalizing hint that the future of the franchise might mean a return to its roots.

The structure of the Fallout: New Vegas trailer is very similar to that seen in the first promos for Fallout 3: Opening with a rendition of the classic ballad "Blue Moon," it begins with a close-up of a flickering video screen, then slowly pulls back to reveal a single-wheeled robot scavenging through a barren, neglected graveyard. As the camera moves further, the city of New Vegas slowly appears in the background, but unlike the blasted husk of Washington D.C., New Vegas is brightly lit and standing tall, a shining beacon in an irradiated wasteland.

But wait! As it pulls out even further, the camera reveals a solitary figure in a long, brown jacket, staring out at the city. He's wearing a helmet and what appears to be a mask of some sort, glowing ominously red. And what's that behind him? Why, it's the flag of the New California Republic!

Then cut to black, and somebody cue Ron.

There's really not a lot to see here, but the presence of the NCR has got to be of huge interest to fans of the series, particularly since the game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, which was founded by several veterans of Fallout 2. Will this be the Fallout game that finally satisfies the Bethesda haters? Fallout: New Vegas is slated for released in fall 2010 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

JUMPIN JESUS ON A POGO STICK, YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They kept Ron Perlman?

Well hopefully we can get a perk that has him narrate the game as we play.

That would be awsome

I'm not really thrilled with Obsidian developing it, as they have a history of taking over a franchise and not living up to expectations. But the trailer is appealing.

OMG this is the best day so far in 2010!!!!!

I don't really see why people hate Fallout 3 so much. If anything Bethesda made it better.

I'm sure someone knows who that guy is at the end I certainly don't.

Personally, I think that more people like Fallout 3 than the other 2, I happen to be one of them, oh well, can't please everyone. So I hope it's like Fallout 3.

I am engorged.

2010 is going to be a great gaming year. :-)

I'm so excited I might bite my hand off.

Not as quick to report as the forums where!

OT: I cannot wait...

OMG OMG OMFG. Ugh, i want this game already.

Nothing will satisfy the bethesda haters, that's a futile quest.

The trailer looks interesting though, didn't expect that there would be power to the whole city.

Actually, as someone who played all Three Main Fallout Games, the dude is new. The flag behind him however is the flag of the New California Republic.

Now, despite the fact it will likely be a new character in the series, I wonder who could it be from NCR...

What it dinīt tell me:Anything.

What it did tell me:GET THIS GAME.AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I keep seeing this opinion pop up, but I don't see where it comes from.

The only games they've done so far are KotOR 2 and NWN2. KotOR 2 would have been better than the first if it wasn't for the ending getting mangled due to time/budget pressure from the publisher, and IMO the parts that didn't get mutilated were still way better than the first. Neverwinter Nights 2 was a bit buggy on release, but other than that it was better than the first in every way, especially the singleplayer component.

Looking forward to seeing what's next.

No game could contain so much awesomeness.
You're getting ahead of yourself.

That certainly looks very familiar.

*Picks jaw up off the floor*
Oh yes this is wayyyyy too awesome. :D

Also I knew they'd fall for the charms of my magnificent music eventually.

The guy is probably the main character. He has a vault 7 helmet and a pipboy.

I think the thing that the people who thought the previous enteries were superior to Fallout 3, is the witty, humrous, pop culture infused writing. The game's gameplay is more than likely to be that of Fallout 3, but to be honest, Fallout 3's writing really did'nt capture the humour and spirit of the other Two.

It's not the gameply they want changed.

Looks awesome. More Fallout games can't be bad.

In the picture it is clear a Pip Boy like device is being worn on his left wrist....The protagonist??? Have the NCR got inside a vault?

well... being a fan of the Fallout universe (but not a fan of the original 2 fallouts) it will be interesting how they make things to work... that shady figure with the flag seems quite an interesting guy... hehehe

Well that's good, I tried Fallout, thought it was the worst gameplay ever.

Vegas was looking pretty intact there O.o

cool, fallout 3 was somehow a let down for me. hope obsidian brings back the dark humour. i found fallout 3 to be rather depressing.

Fixed that for ya.

Also, what? I mean, it's combat was'nt exactly awesome sauce, but it was'nt shit like the combat you see in other turn based combat games, or god forbid, Too Human.

What it told you: THE GAME COMES OUT THIS YEAR ZOMGZ0RZ!!!!!!!! That's honestly all I needed to know.... well, would have been better to know it's coming out tomorrow, but in a realistic sense, it works for me :P

i loved the turn based strategy combat in the first entries! you could try out so many different ideas. but the whole micromanagement part sucked. it still sucks. maybe thatīs why iīm disappointed with fallout 3, because for me it added nothing to the formula, i like the old combat better and the writing is certainly inferior to the first two titles, while the stuff that i didnīt like is still in the game.

screw the bethesda haters, fallout 3 was a superb game and I thought was better than Fallout 1 and 2 COMBINED...chew on that fanboys

That robot kinda reminds me of Claptrap - and considering that Borderlands is basically "Fallout meets Mad Max meets Diablo meets a lot of other stuff"... LOL.
