Why do people think they can change others minds about something they try so desperate to defend? No matter how many times you bash on a console/game/anything with a fan base, a true fan will just ignore the flaws. So if there never going to go " I guess your right ________ really does suck monkey balls!", then whats the point? I mean, has anyone ever one an internet fight?
Fanboys will always be fanboys and they will always be moronic "plattform partisans" as he so coulurful describes it.
well, they are silly, simply for hating people who own another machine.
Bah. Fanboys just need (better) jobs, so that they can afford more than a single console. End of console wars once everyone can afford every console.
Good for him, as I agree. I for example, would love to try Uncharted, but have no PS3 to do so. Silly silly fanboys, we all hate you.
Xbots? Sony Defence Force? Please God don't tell me they actually exist.
... 360 for the wi-BOOOM!!!- ho what's that... -drill sound- no... no... NOOOOOOO!!! -Splat-. Hahaha I'm just kidding, I agree the console wars are silly and to be honest it drives me crazy... both side bickering over which console is the best. I own a 360 and I would love to own a PS3 for the exclusives but well I can't afford the PS3. I've heard scorn for the Wii but at the end of the day it's just a console, yeah sure it's had some bad, bland games brought out for it but you can't blame the console for that... I'd love to own a Wii if I had the money.
Bioshock devs not only get a +1 from be, but are also sitting at the top of my awesome list.
Well, goodie. Then he doesn't think I'm silly!
| |
Lesson is, kids: The only reason why people hate the other console is because it has awesome games that theirs doesn't have.
I find it rich that someone can deface what is essentially people's opinions. Yes I may believe console wars are a task in futility, but I still respect the formation of said opinion. Providing there is some actual backing bar "PS3 sucks", "Get that 360 out of my face or I'll eat you brickwork" or "The Wii is X(X)". It's common human nature (as it pleases me to say) as quoted above. People crave meaning, and competition gives the very convincing illusion of meaning and purpose. This in turn gives meaning and purpose to their chosen activity and supplies self acclaimation. If someone believes what they are doing is "right" they can apply a lot more of their being into it, without the weight of guilt to drag it down. That is why I can understand the people that "fight" the "console wars", objectivity is a nice thing.
Well, if I didn't love these Developers before, that clinches it. I'm glad to see more developers publicly say what all we - rational - people are saying: Fanboys need to sit down and shut up.
I hope so. Think of the hilarity! Membership cards, merchandise, damn.
Something tells me fanboyism isn't going to stop because 2K wants it to. Something else tells me evidence of that exists right here on the Escapist.
Noooooo! The lesson is buy a PC because bickering about second place is retarded mwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I disagree that they are silly. Fanboys are silly yes. The whole my console is better than your console is silly. And once they figure out how to make the same game (the exact same experience) for both consoles (since the Wii is a different beast entirely) the console war will be rendered silly. Until they stop with the "exclusive to this console" DLC, make games that run the same on both consoles and give us gamers the same deal no matter which console we decide to buy it on (like Dante's Inferno where buying it for the PS3 is a much better deal than the 360). Once multiplat developers stop treating one side like 3rd class citizens and the other like kings or queens the console war is anything but silly.
You know what I find silly? Developers going "Exclusive" for the extra money and in some cases alienating their fanbase so a few Microsoft/SONY CEOs can buy their 5th car. As if games coming only on a certain platform would have anything to do with their fans... How about instead of making fun of the symptoms you actually try to do something against the cause? PS: Good god why does trying to read any of squids post usually feel like someone is trying to grate your brain...?
Developers, when you make a game for both platforms make the DLC availible for them as well...you're missing out on money by alienating the other. I'm looking at you GTA4!
I have to agree. It is silly, down right stupid. Nice to see someone with a voice agreeing too!
Agreed. I was a Gamecube fanboy until I got a PS2 a good number of years ago. Right now, I'm able to play No More Heroes 2 and Bioshock whenever I want. Just need to save up for a PS3 to play Demon's Souls, and I'll be set for a good few months.
That's ridiculous! The real lesson is 'fanboy' can be used as a verb and 2K has an army of Big Daddies they're not afraid of using.
And we've seen them! Remember the Uber-Edition? He speaks thruths, but I prefer the PS3 as a console (call me wierd but I like the controllers), and I'd still not like Halo all that much even if it was on PS3.
"This is why PC is the best." I kid, but it had to be done and over with before some obnoxious PC gamer finds it necessary to post this.
They are silly. I thought we had established this by now.
i like this guy. Every generation has a console war. This generation is actually very evenly matched (apart from the wii, which is shit), (i have a wii so i can say that)
To be fair, what game has had to be down-graded so it can be put on the 360 instead of only the PS3.
Well of course the console wars are silly. I bash consoles for entirely different reasons - their ubiquity quite often leads to developers shifting most/all of their respective development focus onto the console version of any given multi-platform title, and then the PC version ends up being a mediocre port. It's even worse when established franchises that were wonderful on the PC go multi-platform and suffer for it across the board, not that most console players notice because they never played the original games. So what I really don't like are lazy developers, and the annoying fanboys who think that our well reasoned complaints about those developers shoehorning in design elements that do not make any sense on the PC are just "PC elitists being whiny bitches" (if you have ever said this online, be very thankful it is impossible to be punched in the teeth via the internet).
Indeed they are silly. Silly PS3 owners hating on the vastly superior xbox! Jokes! EDIT:
Can you not do that on PC games? xBox live and PSN both have options for it for those who talk incoherently into microphones
I'll just sit back here on my happy PC hill and watch the console flame war :D In reality, I don't get why everyone is so up in arms about these things. I own all 3 consoles and a gaming PC because I LOVE GAMES. I don't care what they're on - a game should be judged by its merits as a game and nothing else. And with both consoles essentially costing as much as 4 games now (as games are $70 here in Canada, after tax you're at $80 = $320) there's not much reason you can't afford to buy the other one, is there?
I guess you played the AvP demo as well? ;) For instance, if the devs did a quick port and the mouse still has a smoothing algorithm applied to it that's not toggleable... why do that? It just fucks with the controls and makes the game feel wrong. We aren't saying the PC version has to be day and night different and superior, we just want attention to basic things like the CONTROLS OF THE DAMN GAME. I also hate when we get a 360 port and it still has the fucking 360 buttons for quick time events and stuff. Is that really necessary? Couldn't you just take them out? It's things like that which I hate.
Yes!! Thank you for saying what I've always said.
The one thing that embarrasses me most about gamer culture is console fanboys. People who insult games they haven't played and put frankly pathetic amounts of effort into explaining why their opinion is the correct one. The fact that people will literally blind themselves from opinions different from their own to protect their purchase just says something really petty about the human mind. It's fine if you like your 360 and it's fine if you think all PS3s are garbage, and if you absolutely need to go on the internet and tell the world about this, hey, it's your life, go ahead. But don't trick yourself into thinking that you're an expert on the gaming industry, don't ignore blatant truths and faults with your own system and its games, and don't assume your opinion on a very subjective matter is the be-all-end-all conclusion that people are idiots for not recognizing. It's a fucking gaming console. Come on. I feel pathetic for taking the six minutes of my life to even make this post; I can't imagine being the kind of person who spends hour talking about this trash.
There is nothing wrong with being a fan and admiring a piece of art, on the contrary, this is great. There is something wrong about being fanatical. Not admiting that there are any flaws and going to extreme lenghts to defend their beloved object. I for one LOVE Metal Gear Solid. But I admit that some games are a little wtf and the writing is a bit "what?" at some times etc. Just keep an open mind and forget your ego. As for the console wars, wtf? I have a PS3 and it's equally good as both XBox 360 and the Wii. Well alright not the Wii ;P Seriously though, I don't understand why people bash each others stuff? I mean what's the point? Do you win something? Are you cool? If anything you just make an ass out of yourself. Just let it go
I feel for you Marin. I hate fanboys, it's the same thing with apple iPod, iPad, iPhones, etc etc, it's all rubbish. I don't have an iPod or a Zune. I dislike it that they and SOny and Microsoft (again) make us buy into shizz with DLC. frick DLC. and frick paying for that shizz.
Oh yeah? Well MACs are better than PC's! *jumps behind hedge

BioShock 2 Dev Calls Console Wars "Silly"
Are you a diehard PS3 fanboy and registered Sony Defense Force member? Are you a member of Microsoft's legion of Xbots? If you are, then BioShock 2 developer 2K Marin thinks you're silly.
When the original BioShock came out, it was somewhat of a hot spot for fanboys: 360 owners rubbed the acclaimed game in the proverbial faces of everybody who owned the hated PS3, while said PS3 owners took every opportunity they could do pick on the exclusive ... until it actually came out for the console and said haters were forced to agree that it was actually kind of awesome.
This not-so-proud tradition was hardly limited to PS3 owners, though - how many 360 fanboys trashed Metal Gear Solid until Rising was announced? PS3 owners might blast Gears of War while Xbox 360 owners hate on Uncharted, but if the games were released on the competing platforms, you can bet that there'd be quite a few minds changed very, very quickly.
Speaking with Destructoid, BioShock 2 creative director Jordan Thomas discussed the idea of fanboyism and how it applied to the console wars. "There's a cognitive effect known as 'confirmation bias' which leads people to latch onto conclusions that support their preferences and ignore data which doesn't," said Thomas, "This leads to wild, unreasoning loyalty to a chosen platform, sports team, or brand of soda."
"From a development perspective, the console wars are a bit silly; our target is consistency, and it's always kind of sad to see people throwing their energy into 'platform partisanship,' because it seems to flood the critical channels and drown out other creative discourse."
So do you hear that, fanboys? Every time you bash the other system for having exclusives that you secretly want, you make 2K Marin sad. And when you make 2K Marin sad, they send Big Daddies after you to punch holes in your chest with giant drills.
Fanboy at your own risk.
