Traveler's Tales: Lego: Lord of the Rings "Would Work"

Traveler's Tales, the makers of all of the LEGO games said that a Lego: Lord of the Rings "would definitely work."

When Lego Star Wars came out back in 2005, nobody thought it'd be a success. But something about the quirky, speechless comedy and the myriad of familiar Star Wars characters connected with kids and adults alike. Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman have continued the legacy and now that we have Lego Harry Potter coming out in May and even a Lego Clone Wars game due sometime this fall, its easy to point to other intellectual properties that might easily be adaptable to Traveller's Tales winning formula. With all of the characters and heroic storylines of the movies, a Lego Lord of the Rings seems like it would be at the top of that list. The producer of Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Loz Doyle wouldn't confirm or deny that such a game was in discussion, but he said it is definitely possible.

"It's [Lord of the Rings] got three films - well, plus one if you add The Hobbit. It's got a lot of cool characters. It could definitely work," he said.

He went on to admit that most big-budget franchises would fit the formula. "There are very few things that wouldn't work, don't you think? There is an age limit, and Lord of the Rings is aimed younger in terms of appropriateness. So in that respect they work. Yeah, it would definitely work."

With Warner Bros. re-acquiring the rights to the films from EA at the end of 2008 and the fact that WB owns Traveller's Tales, a Lego: Lord of the Rings seems like an inevitability at this point.

I would play it. It's LEGO and Lord of the Rings together, two very important parts of my childhood finally combined. Give it now!

Yay, yay, yay, and yay. Everything must be Lego-ised!

Lego Witch King is too fucking awesome for my mind to comprehend... Oh god that's too cool.

Lego plus Lord of the Rings...Give it too me now!

That's...that's is better then the Idea of harry potter and lego!

Now we need star trek...and my life will be complete.

well, that's a lie.

It could work see -> LEGOlas. Obviously this should be seen as a sign.

Lego Gandalf would be awesome. It would be better though, if it were to come out around the time of "The Hobbit" movie.

Lego: Avatar coming soon to a console near you!

I don't mind a LEGO game every now and again. As long as they're funny and they're based on things I care about. LEGO Star Wars, for example. I didn't get Batman, Harry Potter or the 2nd Indiana Jones game, but I'd definetly pick up LEGO LOTR - to see Gollum's LEGO avatar, if nothing else.

As both a lego fan and a LOTR fan, I say please do!

BUT, when I look at the crappy Harry Potter lego, and how much they made me face the fact that legolisation is the new capitalism(Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, even BATMAN(!)), I must say no. Better yet, please don't, for the franchise's sake.

But since money is all that counts, and there's bound to be someone who will buy it, I say: do it.

Hell, it might even be pretty sweet to have a lego Gollum^^

EDIT: I got ninja'ed to Gollum, dang.

Also, I keep seeing lego Gollum with a raw rabbit or fish in his mouth;)

Dr. wonderful:

Oh man, now I'm imagining what a Lego klingon would look like. Unless they already exist... disappears to Google that.

The Lego games are awesome. Lego:LOTR could only continue that tradition.

I am really looking forward to Lego Harry Potter, as the early movies had some comedic moments of their own in anyway it should be excellent.

WOOO I have been waiting for years to have Lego LotR. I hadn't even thought of a video game for it!!

I think Star Wars was the best and most appropriate franchise to Lego-ize. LotR sounds like a boring cash-in. With Star Wars, you had unique characters and vehicles; that's what Lego is all about. In LotR you have some cliche characters (I know Tolkien started it all, but they've been done to death now) and a bunch of Castle Lego pieces that we've already seen before... sounds pretty dull to me.

However, that Star Trek idea sounds like it has promise, but only if it took the players though everything... Original, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, etc. Two words... Borg Lego. Hello?!

I'd get it. Seriously, I'd get this full price, launch day.

a LEGO Lord of the Ring i could actually see that i sound's like a wonderful idea....Next they can make LEGO Pirates of the Carribean...i can the world ending if that happens

Why don't you make a Lego Gears of War while you're on it... twats.

I saw that word and instantly heard it in Agent Smith's awesome way of pronouncing it lol

OT, that would be awesome :)

I'd be all over that.

but what would the ring look like? a gold stud? we can't have that

Why don't you make Lego Sonic 3D Blast, maybe you can get that game right next time.

Musn't, get, fan, boyish...

Oh hell, I would buy it, I would play it, I would undoubtedly love it.

I want to see this game, and I want it now!

Why the hell didn't I think of that at the same time, I would like to see that too. I mean its not like it'll be worse than Path of Neo

Technically, doesn't EVERYTHING work with Lego?

Except porn, obviously?

Certainly would be a sight! lol

Dude. That is just win. I would definitely buy it if/when it comes out. The Lego games are just to much fun to resist.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes!

Possible? You do not simply walk into Mordor!

Meh. They're not terrible, and any franchise that isn't a rhythm series, Final Fantasy, Madden, or Call of Duty can be accepted, once in a while.

After Harry Potter, they should make Lego Alien vs Predater.

I have FOUR reasons for thinking that this is a good idea.

    1. The ACTUAL LOTR games are adequate at best. It's very likely that a LEGO spin-off might exceed them in terms of quality.
    2. Seeing LEGO-style LOTR cutscenes already sounds hilarious.
    3. I don't know why, but just the thought of a LEGO Orc makes me keel over in laughter.
    4. We'd get to constantly bash Frodo to bits without any consequences.

I'd buy it and I know a couple of friends who would too.

I wasn't a fan of Lego Batman, probably because my expectations were too high, or Indiana Jones, but LOTR Lego would rock. Lego Star Wars the Original Trilogy was one of my favourite games on the Gamecube (VERY hard to get for GC), hopefully this can match it. The warp zone place to the different levels could be something like The Green Dragon for Fellowship of the Ring, Rohan for Two Towers, then somewhere like Minas Tirith for Return of the King. And it would be awesome...

Ever since Lego Star Wars turned out to be a hit, I kept thinking Lego Harry Potter would be pure awesome. After all, they already held the rights. Sure enough, they are. Lego LoTR would be pure awesomeness, too.
