I think I speak for everyone on the PC when I say: What the fuck. :(
Welp, that's it then. No more Ubisoft games for me.
As a PC gamer, does Ubisoft not realize we are an unforgiving bunch? Do they also not realize we complain like there's no tomorrow?
This is a sad day indeed :(
Yeah! We should boycott the game! That ALWAYS works.
That is a terrible idea. Simply terrible. And the worst part is that the only people who will have to deal with it are those who legally purchase the game.
Right, that's it, I'm not buying it. This isn't a boycott, I just don't need that kind of fucking hassle when I play. I'll go play a game that doesn't treat me like a potential criminal.
Some people at Ubisoft really need to take a step back from whatever they're doing and actually look at it, I mean LOADS of thing SOUND good, I mean I can say "Water powered vehicles will save the world" but if I put water in my bike's fuel tank it WON'T WORK. Similar principal here
They'll come to their senses and change this, right? Right!?
I give it a week tops before there is a work-around crack courtesy of those magnificent pirates.
Fuck right off. Even if I did pay for a Ubisoft game from now on, It looks like I'd have to pirate it just to be allowed to play.
Hey, it doesn't always work, I accept that. I am just saying that we're like those bickering grans you hear on the back of the bus. We just don't give up.
I see no problem with this. As we all know there is never any problem with the internet, and you can get a high quality connection from anywhere in the world, a train, a boat, an airplane, a tunnel, everywhere.
| |
/Agree I mean DUDE!
Ahem. MOST is not everybody. I personally disable my wireless device when I am playing offline, just means I don't get spammed with "Retrying connection" in a pop-up balloon when my internet does die, which is quite alot on a wireless network with a weak signal.
What...the....Fuck? Ubisoft April 1st isn't for another month and a half, you jumped the gun far to early for a joke of this caliber.
What world does Ubisoft live on when they think people are connected to the internet all the time? This is probably the worst DRM I've ever seen, ever.
Bleh if you want to fight piracy make everyone register online with the cd key the first time they install the game, not this. Its not a f-ing mmo rpg its a single player game. Whats with all the big releases f-ing us pc gamers in the arse?!
I had exactly the same reaction
I bet it'll be less than a day
Well, like nearly every other single player game I am sure it will be available to torrent with all these DRM issues fixed on release day anyways.
Wow that's absurd. And I thought some of XBL's DLC policies were silly...
Well, Screw Ubisoft, I guess I'm not getting Assassin's Creed 2 after all. Or anything by them, actually. At least not until they drop this idiotic policy. I hope other companies don't start to copy them though, could be a nightmare...
Which is why they even try DRM in the first place. It's a nasty vicious cycle, but piracy is not the answer. Ever.
This is why I buy games of this type for console, no BS there unless you count XBL.....
It was a bad choice to say what they are going to do. Now the pirate can think of what they do. (Which, in most cases, would have the game codex thingy that requires the servers would be re-routed to a server on the hard-drive.)
Well, I guess I could blame Ubisoft, but it's their product that's stolen. I hate pirates.
My reaction right there. Did some one go around Ubisoft's office with a sledge hammer and give everyone brain damage? Who the fuck thinks this is a good idea?! Even on their end what is the point of this, what could the gain? They must know that there is going to be some type of crack that enables their "single player" game to be played without and internet connection. Uggg, just saying that line made me want to cut myself. Fellow PC gamers, it has come to this.
I had 65$ laid out for Assassins Creed 2. Well, fuck that, off to the Torrents now.
That's that then isn't it? No PC ubisoft games for me from this point on. I'm not even going to make a big deal out of it. That's just the way it is if they take this route.
Well, this is a perfect solution that stops piracy by... actually, no, it doesn't stop piracy, since someone somewhere in the world's going to crack it sooner or later, and then all the pirates will download that anyway. But it does make things better for the paying customers by... randomly dropping out and eating all your bandwidth, leading some of your paying customers to jump on the pirate train. I'm sure someone somewhere thinks this will decrease piracy, but I can't fathom how.
I am going to hit you, and then you are going to thank me.
My internet disconnects every ten minutes or so..... I think Ubisoft dislikes me. So if I want to play this game I have no choice but to pirate it??!! I don't understand how they thought this was a good idea.
Actually, this may be the one case where I'd make an exception. I don't mean I'd pirate the game, but if I were to buy it, I'd probably get a crack to let me play offline. I don't think that's illegal.
It's not like it really matters anyways, Ubisoft has never made a good PC port, so it just gives gamers more of a reason for them not to go to Ubisoft. Lets just pray to god that no other big publisher thinks this is a good idea, cause then we are really fucked.

Ubisoft Online DRM: It's Worse Than Expected
It looks like Ubisoft's new online DRM scheme is going to be even worse than we thought: Gamers will need a constant internet connection to play Assassin's Creed 2 on the PC and if it drops, so does the game.
Ubisoft announced in January that as part of its ongoing effort against piracy, all of its future PC releases would require gamers to connect to the internet and log in to Ubi.com in order to play. Trying to sell the scheme as a positive move for gamers, the publisher pointed out that it would allow players to install their games on an unlimited number of PCs and access their saved games from any of them, because saves would be stored remotely. "We think most people are going to be fine with it," Ubisoft's Brent Wilkinson said. "Most people are always connected to an Internet connection."
Unfortunately, it appears as though it won't be quite that simple. As PC Gamer discovered during its recent look at the PC version of Assassin's Creed 2, you'll not only have to connect to Ubisoft servers to start the game, you'll also have to stay connected while you play. And woe betide anyone whose connection happens to crap out while they're playing: If it does, the game will drop out to the main menu and any progress made since the last save or checkpoint is lost.
Oh, and if Ubisoft's servers hiccup momentarily while you're playing? Same deal.
It's bad enough that PC gamers won't be able to start their games if Ubisoft happens to have its servers down for a few hours for maintenance, but to be kicked out of games and lose progress because of it? Or because a router is accidentally unplugged or an ISP goes down for a couple of minutes? It's utterly mind-boggling, and absolutely inexcusable. Does Ubisoft really think that gamers are going to be "fine" with that?
