We're robots in co-op?!
Them internet rules coming into play in 5...4...3...2..... Anyways, after recently finishing Portal (finally), I've got to say too long, and it'll overstay its welcome. Even with GLaDOS bots.
I think that this could be a triumph.... Anyway, hundreds of years after? Then what happened to Chelle (or however you spell it)?
From that scan, it looks like, somehow, you still play as Chell? Despite hundreds of years passing? Chell = Gordon Freewoman.
G-Man | |
As long as the ending song is as fucking amazing as Portal's was, I'm pretty much good.
I'm really excited for this. I was a little surprised by it being set hundreds of years in the future though; this'll place us WAY after Gordon. I'm hoping to see where/when the first game was set in the HL universe.
Hardly, considering no one knows who/what he is, what he wants/needs, who he 'works' for, etc. etc.
Portal was popular because it was something new and innovative, and because it was short and sweet. Having a 15+ hour sequel with the exact same type of gameplay is gonna murder my will to live. C'mon, more new original licences instead please.
I thought I wouldn't like new details, I'm not sure about multiplayer so far, but it should be good.
Well, the other part was that Old Man Murray is one funny, funny man.
How exactly is that co-op thing supposed to work? Are we required to hook uo with some stranger from the internet, or even worse, to invite a friend over?
I'm not going to lie, this sounds fucking epic as all hell. I mean, getting to play as a robot from the facility? With another? The same writers? Longer game? More physics and puzzles? GLaDOS returning? This is too good to be true.
So wait, what about Chell getting dragged off?
Wheeeeeeeee! Im getting so excited, Im getting so excited! Seriously, I love me some Portal and while some may claim that the sequel will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of those who appreciated the brief sweetness that was Portal, I think ValVe's commitment to quality over quantity should already speak for itself.
Well, the end of Portal strongly implied that she was out of the facility, but kind of dead. EDIT: But didn't GLADOS say that she had Chells brain scanned and permanently backed up in case something terrible happened to her?
That is what worries me. What exactly is a "full length game"? Is it like MW2 where the campaign is 4-5 hours, or like HL2 and BioShock where it is ~15+?
For the love of GLaDOS, please do not turn this into an action game. Portal is a puzzle game. Please leave it a puzzle game... Crap, you're going to turn it into an action game aren't you? ... damnit.
you never know, this could be a decoy maybe? i doubt it is but it'd be funny as anything. plus i thought the borealis was supposed to be in ep.3? maybe ep.3 acts as a bridge betweent he two games.
You play as Chell in the single player campaign, chances are that her being dragged off was so she could be cloned or put in stasis or something. Time portal? oh snap Anyway this looks like its going to be so good. But does the time jump mean that its ahead of Half Life? Edit: The blown up scans of the Portal 2 details make for a pretty interesting read: http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/6600/61465046.jpg
On another note, Yahtzee is going to be pissed he has to play this with a "friend." This is like a giant stab in the hat to him. Best Game He Reviewed + Multiplayer being the core experience... I can't wait for that video.
Oh yeah, bring it on. I hope all the different sections of control have different aesthetics. It'll be interesting to play a robot, if that is the case in single-player. I've only liked Portal by Valve, but i know they wont disappoint.
Hundreds of years?! HAAAAAW-LEEEE-SHEEET! Awesome!
Not the core experience, apparently.
that's it! Glados Man! | |
So will this cake be a lie? But yeah, Portal 2 is looking amazing so far. Can't wait.
So, if Aperture is still around a couple hundred years later, what does this say about Half Life? Did Gordon defeat the Combine and save Earth? Or did he accidentally activate the Borealis, perhaps causing a rapid amount of time to pass?
Ho. Ly. Shit. The G-Man is actually an holographic avatar of GLADOS, which is why he speaks odd and appears and dissappears whenever he wants. OMG BREAKTHROUGH
I'm hoping Valve leave HL as the Action game in this universe whilst Portal is the puzzle game of HL's universe.
I heard the co-op mode would be a separate campaign, ala the Splinter Cell games. So, one he can play the game without any help, but two an entire section will be cut off. Although I doubt that won't be anything the console and map_ can't fix.
Hearing some people say how Aperature's founder became an AI... Maybe all of them personality cores around the cake are the other's that passed having a 'party' Glad0s was on about... And chell was being dragged off to become one :O OT: You play as a personality core with no voice... no personality :O
*GLaDgasm* I've played P0RTAL so many times; I absolutely cannot wait for the next instalment.
Comon Valve i expected more from you than a turret bot and a personality core for charcters. On the other hand i think single player mode looks like it'll pretty badass
Almost got it, it's spelled Chell... I think. Maybe she's in stasis or something? Or the robots turned her into cake ingredients.
Portal 2 looks great, they're innovating instead of doing more of the same which is good in a puzzle game. Oh, and "allowing their to be a stronger narrative" is the wrong their/there/they're.

Portal 2 Details Leaked
Scans of an upcoming Game Informer feature on Portal 2 have made their way onto the internet for all to see.
We already know some details about Portal 2, like the co-op mode will be separate from the single-player game, and that GLaDOS will make a return, but concrete gameplay details were thin on the ground. But thanks to posters on the forums of Australian gaming website PALGN, we have a plethora of scans from an upcoming Game Informer feature about the game, giving us an insight into what we can expect.
The single player mode of Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years after the first, and it would appear that Aperture Science never came back to reclaim the facility, as it appears overgrown and almost jungle-esque. The personality cores that came online at the end of the first game have had plenty of time to set up their own little domains, allowing there to be a stronger narrative in the game without having to add in more human characters.
On the co-op front, you and a friend will be able to play as one of two robots, one made out of a turret, and one made out of a personality core, both equipped with a portal gun, and able to travel through each others' portals. Console versions will have a split screen mode, and PC versions will have picture-in-picture to allow for easy communication.
In both modes, physics will play a bigger part, and Valve has added more puzzle elements, like lasers and reflective cubes, as well as paint-like substances that cause some physical reaction, like an orange paint that will propel players upwards, allowing for a greater depth to the puzzles.
Probably most importantly, Portal 2 will be a full length game, rather than another two hour jaunt. According to Valve the first game was a 'test bed' and it was amazed that it became so popular. Portal 2 will have the same writers as the first game, and from the snippets of dialogue I've read - which I don't want to spoil for you - I don't think we have much to worry about.
