God of War 3 Teases ... Something

image

Players who have earned a platinum trophy in God of War 3 have uncovered a curious teaser site that seems to be counting up to something.

Grabbing the platinum trophy of God of War 3 requires some serious dedication, but those with the determination and time to obtain it have been redirected to a hidden section of the God of War site: 'Spartans Stand Tall', which shows what looks like a view of the sea from a cliff side as rain lashes down. In the top-right corner of the site is a circular device with a scrawled symbol on it and a track that seems to be filling up with blood.

The device seems to be a quarter full at the time of writing, possibly relating to the number of people who have unlocked the Platinum trophy, or maybe just counting down time. Either way, it's an intriguing mystery, especially as the symbol on the device seems to be lambda, the meaning of which isn't immediately obvious.

What could this mean? Could it be teasing a new handheld game like Chains of Olympus? Given that Kratos throwing himself into the sea is an important part of the God of War canon, this seems like it could be pretty darn significant. Keep watching this space for more news.

Thanks to Hubilub for the tip!

Ummm....that's pretty?

That's quite possibly the least interesting teaser I've ever seen.

Lambda?

God of War: Half Life?

I kid, I kid.

What I'm guessing is that it could be a game about Kratos's Early history, when he was a general in the Spartan Army.

I really hope it is not God of War 4, because really, where are they suppose to take the series now? It would just drag the series.

Yeah, this might point to some sort of prequel, that or Santa Monica are releasing a new Bratz game...

Irridium:
Lambda?

God of War: Half Life?

"In an effort to get rid of Gordon Freeman once and for all, the Combine have sent him back in time to ancient Greece. Here he must team up with the God of War, Kratos to find his way home."

The worst part is that it's probably already part of someone's fanfiction portfolio =_=

Probably to another time period. Chinese God of War, anyone?

"Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn. Oh look; a butterfly!" -- Linkara

That's all I thought of when I looked at the site.

I'd prefer Egyptian God of War, or hey, maybe Norse..

Ups.

The lambda stood for Lacedaemon (the Ancient Greek for Sparta)or Laconia, and was painted on Spartan shields, which is what the centre of the symbol appears to be.

OK, I understand publishers probably want to milk God Of War for sequels, but I really don't see how it's possible. I mean,

EDIT: Hey, 200th post!

Doesn't look like a lambda to me. But what do I know? I didn't even recognize it as a cliff until I stared at it for a while.

It's a capital lambda.

Well, firstly

And secondly, what if the Lambda is actually a hint for Half-Life 2: Episode 3 being part of a crossover with God of War? I know that this is near impossible, but you must admit that it would be freaking epic.

Oh hey, I did not know that. Thanks for the info :)

Oh, thank you. I was confused for a little while there.

I don't know if you guys saw this but in the right corner of the water there appears to be a figment/reflection of Kratos or a face amerging out of the water.
I might be imagining but look real hard and you might see it.
But know me I'm probabaly incorrect any way.
But i say it most likely be the PSP version of the game.

I learnededed something today! Yay! That was actually surprisingly interesting, cheers :D

I'd just like to echo that a Norse or Egyptian God of War would be utterly amazing. Even more so if it was still Kratos slaughtering his way through other pantheons.

And now I'm really ashamed over thinking it was the letter Alpha >.> Shows how much I know about the Greek alphabet.

Didn't actually think this would get a news article though. Hurray for that!

It would be awesome...
But if he dares lays a finger on "MY NORSK MYTHOLOGY!" i will rip his arm out of his socket, Use that arm to poke his gouge his eyeballs out and make his arms feed him his eyes...
DARE SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THOR AND I WILL EAT YOUR HEART!

A game where you play as Kratos' army of Spartans killing many many people?

Please?

Oden owned Thor's ass! That is the truth!

Intresting...I wonder what will happen when its full/ End of the world!?

Hmm...watch this space indeed

Who here remembers how the special features of the original God Of War told the story of Kratos' brother?

Yeah, because saying that there are other immortal beings that control the universe would not cause any problems to the canon at all...

It would make sense.

Well, seeing that
*EXTREME SPOILER ALERT!!! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!*
*SERIOUSLY!!!*
*NOT THAT YOU HAVE A PS3 OR EVER GONNA GET ONE SO YOU PROBABLY WILL NEVER FIND OUT ANYWAY!!!*

Kratos is as dead as dead gets.
It's either gonna be a prequel or about someone else. (which is pretty fucking obvious)
What is less obvious, however, is the fact that GOrdan Fremon will be the new God of War and fight alien zombies and kill stuff with the Crowbar of Great Science.

Lambda eh? Could that be L for Leonidas? Or L for Lethe?

The_ModeRazor:

No, he is not.

Did you not see the scene after the end credits?

*Double Nerdgasm*

When I hear Spartans Stand Tall, I immediatly first think of the "Last Spartan" Captain guy from God of war 2. It's never explained how he made it to where Kratos was, being an ordinary human. Maybe it'll be his story? Before being brutally murdered of course.

Seeing as how theres a cliff and the ocean or whatever, my "He's attempting suicide again like he did in the first game" idea from a previous thread seems more plausible. Maybe they'll show him falling in and dying when enough people do it or whatever.

Nah, it'd just give Kratos more to kill.

I remember reading a comment with this theory:

- MAybe some DLC to cap off the game a little more evenly. It's possible the pic has something to do with Kratos being in the river of stiyx "or however you spell it" . It would make sense in context of the secret ending and what not. Maybe you have to fight your way out...again.

I don't believe it is a lambda. Of course I'm basing a lambda off of what I saw in the Half Life series. It is similar, but the lambda would have another line jutting out from the point at the top.

The symbol on the site does indeed appear to be the symbol that I have come to associate with Sparta.

Hm... yeah I can only see it being a prequel. No "Big Bad" could top Zeus so they would have to somehow, dare I say it, "scale down."

I know. Shocking thing to say about a God of War game.

As someone else said, it's a capital lambda while Half-life's is a lower case. The wiki link in the OP demonstrates as such with this picture: Quite large.
