Rumor: Game Crazy Goes so Bonkers it Dies

image

When the Mad Hatter is running your company, it's bound to die eventually.

What happens when a videogame business is run by the completely demented? People so demented, they go crazy for videogames? It dies I guess, as it has been recently rumored that videogame chain Game Crazy may soon be closing all of its stores.

Not a couple hundred stores like it did back in February, all of them. Joystiq's investigation uncovered reports that a company wide conference call for Movie Gallery, Game Crazy's parent, revealed that it has filed for bankruptcy and is going through the process of liquidating Game Crazy stores. An employee stated that they'll "likely be closed by the end of June" as Movie Gallery sells off assets.

Another employee said: "After the 18th [of May], we're done with pre-orders," and encouraged those with reserve orders to pick them up as soon as possible. Corporate hasn't yet officially acknowledged whether its 250 remaining Game Crazy stores will be closing or not, but it certainly seems that way right now. I won't be surprised if this rumor is confirmed very soon. Is GameStop's evil just too strong to let the little guys survive anymore? Or did Game Crazy simply come unglued?

Well you know, when your training videos look like this:

your bound to have some problems at some point.

Never heard of Game Crazy...
So...
That... sucks?

Dammit now it is going to be even harder to prove to employers that I worked for Game Crazy. I'm having a hard enough time proving it since both locations I worked at closed down and thus employers aren't willing to confirm if I've worked there and even when I offer a paycheck they won't accept it.

Wow, that... that was just awful...

OT: Well thats a shame. Then again I've never seen a Game Crazy store around here, so it doesn't really effect me.

There's just no reason to go to Game Crazy over other game stores

Makes me wonder if the assault on used games sales had anything to do with it even indirectly.

That video was just awful. Well, I never heard of them and won't pink away a tear either. Good luck.

The GameCrazy in my hometown has shut down and its a new video section at hollywood video

All the stores near me are either closed or liquidating everything. Shame, because Gamecrazy gave better service and products than GS. Time to go completely online for all my game buying, I guess.

*Already does all his buying online*

Ahhh You beat me to it!

Its kinda sad to see them go, but we'll always have gamestop.

Was GameCrazy doing fine on its own though?

Cause maybe they were doing well...just not enough to feed themselves and their parent company too...

How could someone have not punched Zelda in the face? She was speaking in, like, 80s rap.

That was pretty much the only retarded element.

I could have told this was happening. The Game Crazy in our town was doing great compared to the other Game Crazys in our region and it unexpectedly closed down a few weeks ago. Such a shame. I still refuse to give Gamestop my money though.

MY bet is on Gamestop's Evil Robot Army. They downgraded PC games from a wall to one of the floorracks. ONE.

It occurs to me that they had an exclusive preorder kit for Alpha Protocol... so... how do we get that now? :(

This sucks I bought every single one of my consoles from gamecrazy

Never had one, but that video makes it look like they were just as bad as Gamestop.

Never even heard of it til Spoony made that riff

Crap now it looks like I'll either have to get my games of some creeper dude on craigslist or cave in to the douchbaggery that is Gamestop. Looks like a lot more creepy weirdos are in my future....

That...Was...Amazing!

Zelda was so hardcore. She was all up in Game Crazy's Hizzouse!

I have one near my house and it sucks, the employees lied to people, were rude, and and closed whenever they felt like. When Gamestop opened up a store in town and I haven't gone back to game crazy since, actuary I don't think anyone has, I'm happy to see them gone.

Movie Gallery still exists? or hollywood video for that matter? I never knew and hadn't seen a gamecrazy in years.

I only got one game there.
Halo 2 collector's edition.
What did I get?
A plain black box with two disks.
It was... infuriating.
What I'm getting at: suck that people are going to lose their jobs, but I will not mourn that store chain.

Geeze, I think there are only a few GameCrazy's left around here, and a few of them have the misfortune of being right near GameStops.
I've hardly ever used GameCrazy, I kinda forget it exists, honestly. The few times I"ve been in one they didn't have anything good in the used section, and like, jack all had covers, a big for me.
Seeing as there are pretty much zero Holywood videos around here (I think the last one closed a few years ago, it's an urgent care center now) they're pretty much gonna be gone.

Damn; you did it before I could :P

I don't doubt that. All of the Game Crazys in my area have already gone out of business.

I used to go to Game Crazy, but only because it was more convenient at the time.

Well, I am sure Americans can still <3 there Gamestop.

Although, saying that seems alot of the compnaies, like GAME too is also having problems with finances

The closest Gamecrazy here is in Orlando. I live in Palm Bay. So it's no real loss here. It's too bad, still.

Zelda almost gave me a aneurysm.

I assume they're an American brand?

I've never heard of them. But hearing companies go into liquidation always makes me a sad panda.

Dammit. I loved Game Crazy. I had friends that work there and the rest of the employees simply seemed fun.

Now I have to go to GameStop, where the training videos barely differ from this.

Man now I have to drive all the way to [Location] which is 20 miles away! GameCrazy is the only place in my town where I can buy games. RRRRRAAAAAEEEEGGGGG!!!!

Oh no he didn't.

When that guy just said "let's get ready to rumble" he made a multi-million-dollar mistake. If Mike Buffer finds this video before GameCrazy goes out of business I promise you there will be a lawsuit, he sues anyone that violates his trademark on that phrase.

Who buys PC games in stores anymore, though? Sounds like a good business move on their part, honestly.. the only PC titles I see moving off shelves are Really Big Games, like.. um.. well, WoW has an expansion coming out. You uhh.. you know of anything lots of people are excited about for PC gaming? Anywhere in the pipeline? Cause.. I got nothin here.

It's just much easier and faster to port console games to PC than the opposite. Any PC game that isn't a port, and isn't WoW, probably not going to sell many copies -- at least, not in a brick store.

Way to beat me to the punch. Yeeeah, I'd say that as evil as Gamestop is, they probably deserve to kill Gamecrazy...
