Ah well. You argued your points very well and I get what you're saying, but we just don't see eye to eye. No biggie :)

Wait a second, it's not that, I just don't get it. An adversity to the Wii sure, but what's with the rest? What direction are they taking that's apparently so awful for you?

Every console on the market is making a push towards family friendly, easy access games. They have been edging towards it for quiet some time, and now that Sony and Microsoft are going big on their -- soon to fail -- motion controllers, I've washed my hands and backed out of the arena.

No they're not, Sony and Microsoft would be foolish to attempt that, with Nintendo's massive foothold in that segment of the market.

Are they trying to grab a bit, sure, but it ain't their marketing focus. Of the 2, Microsoft does it the most yes, but for the most part they're still trying to appeal to the Average Joe, neither the hardcore gamer or the happy family but your average college-age person. Last E3 made that even more clear, talking big about online on-demand services for sports and movies, connecting to Facebook and all that ("Look at me I'm so cool uploading my Stupid-Dance-Game pictures to Facebook automatically!".

As for Sony, they're doing anything but hat, despite that new Eyepet thing. The Move commercials alone point that out clear enough, telling us how their device isn't so simple as the Wii (oh sure they don't call it by name, but who are they fooling?), with games for the 'real gamer', and 2010's E3 made that clear. It's pretty much their new business strategy after their failed attempt to sell the PS3 as a "multimedia device".

That's why I didn't get your aversion, they're not making a real move for the family market, that hole is closed shut now. Apple has found a new gap in the handheld market, hence the article here, but that's about it.

As for the motion controllers, thankfully they're optional, unlike the Wii, and at least Sony comes with games like this:

Looks delightful to play after a harsh day at work.

As I said earlier, we don't agree. No point in continually going back and forth.

If Apple ever released a console you know it will cost 5 times as much as an xbox and do half as much.

And yet it would still sell well because it would be called an iSole and people would fall for the shiny casing & interface.

Pffft that's complete baldurdash..

*looks at iPhone* Ooooh shiny!!

Pirate Kitty:
As I said earlier, we don't agree. No point in continually going back and forth.

This has little to do with agreeing or not, you're just wrong about that being Sony's and Microsoft's business strategy.

I would've stopped long ago if that wouldn't be the case, but it simply ain't true that they're both marketing their consoles to a family friendly focus group like Nintendo is doing, I've made it clear why that is but you ain't giving anything that proves your point or that disproves mine.

So let me just ask it; what makes you think that Sony and Microsoft are going down Nintendo's road?

Well honestly I do feel that Sony and Microsoft will more than likely fail, but the only hope I see for the Kinect and PS Move is just one game....one good game that probably won't make up for the fact that they will still fail

That game is Metal Gear Rising!!! *sigh* Damnit Playstation Move! is that the only thing you're good for?

Playstation Move: Don't blame me! I'm for the casual and family friendly gamers..

Me: You've betrayed us...

It ain't that hard to just tell why you think what you think, right? You've told me plenty of times what you think, fair enough about that, but not why. Doesn't make for a good discussion, and I'm really just interested in your point of view. We can be reasonable all this, right?

I wouldn't be so sure about that Nintendo... I can't speak for anyone else, but until you stop re-releasing the same old games with shiny new coats of paint and calling that progress, you'll be below Sony, Microsoft, and Apple in my book.

You know it was bad enough when it was just fanboys spewing this garbage. Now the companies are doing it themselves...

Incoming, Sarcastic Rant

Seriously, Nintendo. I'm all for you guys getting out of the video game business and go into making cell phones. Yeah, I'll miss Metroid... (I mean the good Metroid games, not that Wii shit or that Team Ninja crap.) But honestly, with you guys making phones, we'll get more quality games and less shovelware. Seriously, you do know that PopCap makes casual games way better than you guys do, right? Just do me a favor and sell the F-Zero franchise to someone else, not like you guys give a shit about F-Zero.

Rant over, thank you for not throwing tomatoes.

Cowabungaa:

Mr. Grey:
i it's Sony that doesn't have to worry about you anymore.

Except that, you know, Nintendo outsells Sony on the console department. You know, like a million to one or something, and earns a lot more money on each sold Wii and DS than Sony does with it's PS3 and PSP (even though the PS3 is now finally making money, woohoo!).

I don't think you can deny that the DS is infinitely more popular than the PSP, and that popularity-wise it's especially Apple that rivals Nintendo with their iPhone.

But anyway, I wouldn't call this so much news, they've been talking about Apple threatening Nintendo for some months now.

I made that post six months ago, so you're going to have to excuse me if I don't make much sense in my response.

I wasn't really referring in the sense that Nintendo pretty much decimated Sony in the console and handheld. Which is funny because people said the PSP was going to win, and yet here I am playing my DS Lite more than my PSP -- which will change when Monster Hunter Portable 3 rolls around the corner for the West. Still a little aggravated that it didn't come to the PS3, but bygones are bygones.

I was saying Sony no longer has to worry about them for the hardcore market for the handheld consoles or traditional consoles. From what was going on against Apple sounded like Nintendo was going to go for the Farmville market more, now with more info on the 3DS and finally paying attention to what the hell smart phones are capable of, I can start to see what Nintendo was going at.

And to be perfectly honest, I can't even think about what I was thinking about when I made that post... so I guess I agree with you.

The market is growing and will one day be as big as the film industry. With that increased sales and the market growing. Especially with people being a lot more aware, a lot more demographics are playing games (such as women and older generation in a previously male dominated market) and it's becoming far more mainstream to play video games

So no, neither of them are dying

I just read all of that. Sounds like someone may have a case of the "elites" going on and is tip-toeing around it. I can't say for sure. But then again, I've not been overly impressed with Kitty's posts (that I've encountered) in the threads anyhow.

OP: Logical.

The iPhone is Nintendo's biggest threat. Even in the lean times for their consoles (N64, Gamecube - which were quite "family friendly" themselves - one of the multitude of reasons I did not buy those, but I digress) their dominance in the handheld market kept them afloat.

Anything that threatens that order, is dangerous to the Big "N".

Her posts had that pattern yes, simply ignoring questions and all that.

As for Nintendo, they were pretty much always family friendly, their first-party titles showed that, all the way back to the NES years. I wouldn't call the N64 part of the lean times either, that thing was huge with all those revolutionary titles on it.

It's funny by the way how people dismiss the Gamecube as childish, even though it has an amazing horror game line-up. I should so expand my GameCube library. I still need Viewtiful Joe, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 4 and the remake of the first, Pikmin (ok that game is pretty cute), Star Wars Rogue Leader 2, Time Splitters 2, Beyond Good And Evil...and that's not even all of it! ARG!!!

I know what a metaphor is, and I think the one you used was outlandishly inappropriate. Restating what you meant by metaphor isn't going to change that opinion.

I'm sure you'll probably report me now, because you feel a near-pathological need to either reply or take action on every quote you get. Or, to use a metaphor similar to yours in both appropriateness and logical consistency, "You're going to murder a family of seven and bathe in their blood because you don't want to pay your taxes."
