Dead Space 2 Prequel Infecting XBL & PSN This Fall

EA is bringing a new game to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network that will fill in the gaps between Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

Fans of Dead Space have something new to look forward to before next year's release of Dead Space 2. EA has revealed that a new game set in the Dead Space universe &mdash Dead Space Ignition &mdash will be coming to Xbox Live and PSN in a few months.

Dead Space Ignition is planned to bridge the stories of Dead Space and Dead Space 2. At the start of Dead Space 2, Isaac Clarke is still alive after the first game's cliffhanger, although he's surrounded by Necromorphs and has no idea how he wound up there. Ignition, in turn, will explain what happened prior to this.

Ignition will feature a "comic-style" storyline and include hacking minigames. According to EA, these minigames are a, "fun and satisfying arcade experience that will challenge players with puzzles and twitch gameplay." There are going to be four different endings, and completing the game will unlock exclusive items in Dead Space 2 (including a special suit of armor).

Exactly what EA means by "comic-style" plot isn't really certain, but the game's script was written by Antony Johnston, who has penned both popular novels and comic series.

Dead Space Ignition has been announced for this Fall, well before Dead Space 2's January launch, but nothing more specific has been revealed. No price for the game has been revealed, either. Personally, I'm not sure about the hacking minigames, but as long as the game is more enjoyable than Dead Space: Downfall I'll consider it a win.

............Cool. I need to finish the first Dead Space though.

It's awesome. This should be pretty cool.

Don't. At E3 last year, I learned that even EA didn't like the movie. Why do you think they're not doing movies with Film Roman anymore?

Wow didnt know EA wouldn't like something from their own franchise, well thanks for telling me that ^_^

Yeah Dead Space: Downfall was awful. When such a movie got less than a third amount of plot than the game there's something wrong. And so few connections between this shitty movie and the actual game, blargh.

Sweet!
I just beat Dead Space at a friends house the other day and im Hungry for more.

Aside from the Power Suit from Metroid, i thought the R.I.G. was the coolest Powered Armor EVER.
I especially liked the way the Menus worked and the Objective Path.
And the Health Bar being an actual part of the suit was nice.

Plus its was awesome that all of his weapons were really just Mining and Welding Equipment.
(Except for the Pulse Rifle, but that's a download)
Hopefully ill have a PS3 by the time it comes out.

what was wrong with deadspace downfall?

Hopefully it'll be like Dead Space: Downfall. I actually thought that was pretty good.

Wewt! Something to get my fix with =D Should be fun to mess aroundwith Issac again!

Please close your entities!

Dead Space universe &mdash Dead Space Ignition &mdash will be coming should obviously be Dead Space universe — Dead Space Ignition — will be coming

^.^

Here's the review I did when I wrote for Ars Technica. It was just a crap tie-in that followed a great game with other, better, tie-ins.

Four different endings has me kind of confused... I mean, it's supposed to be a bridge to explain what happens between Dead Space 1 and 2, won't it just make things more confusing with 4 different endings?

Just take 1 and use the time spent working on those endings for more content!

The lack of detail in the monsters and how oblivious some of the crew was to the situation going on seriously when the security walks up to necromorph on the ground they totally over look the sickle like bones out of it's hands the two arms growing out of it's stomach and YOU NEVER TURN YOUR BACK to something alien looking while your in a room full of blood and dismembered bodies.

So lack of detail.
And dumbing down characters cause thats the best the writers could do.

Wouldn't a prequel to Dead Space 2 be, well, Dead Space 1? Can you even have a prequel to a sequel? The mind boggles.

*grr, double post.*

How are they gonna make prequel between dead space 1 and 2 with the necromorphs?
I thought Issac didn't run into necromorphs again until the 2nd.

What do they mean by "it will include hacking minigames"? Will it be a mini game compilation? Will it still be a shooter?

I thought somebody said this would be the prequel of Dead Space I. Woah..

so your bitching about things that every singe horror movie and game does? personally I thought it was pretty good, I mean sure they do some stupid things but nothing thats out of the ordinary for horror and of course they wouldnt know about the necromorphs, at the time the movie took place it was just happening, it would be natural to assume that alive ment alive and dead ment dead at that time

I think it means it means there will be a mini-game which includes hacking. Possibly in-game?

Looks awesome. I will be getting this.

I'll keep my eye on this. But I'll have a hard time warming up to "Ignition" as the name of a Dead Space game.

To me I find the "Comic Style Story" to be disturbing. That seems to be a sign that they are going to be abandoning pretty much all pretensions of serious horror. Largely because horror comics endeavor to get away from the "comic style" themselves. :P

Truthfully I would think they would need to be going in the other direction, away from a comic-book-like way of doing things.

As far as "Dead Space: Downfall" goes, my thoughts were that it seems to have been done by a totally differant team of people from the guys that did the game, and neither team talked to each other much. While the movie did clarify a few things, such as the constant, ambient, psionic attack taking place alongside the attacking monsters (something also a key element of "No Known Survivors") I felt that a lot of the character and weapon designs were considerably differant. I for example get the impression that the team doing the animation was told that one of the main weapons in the game was going to be a "Plasma Cutter" yet was given no indication that it was more like a welding gun than an energy blade.

What's more I had kind of hoped that the movie would find some clever way of giving what amounted to exposition to explain some of the game play elements. For example one of the things that bugged me about "Dead Space" was the various store units where Issac can just saunter on up, drop a bunch of looted credits, and produce armor and weaponry. There is some basic implication that it's a replicator system that needs patterns (hence the schematics) but still, one has to wonder why nobody else bothered to use this. I mean the first thing someone like the #1 Security Officer would do in a situation like that would be to disable to money/security interlocks and start using it to churn out whatever weapons were needed for survival.

All that aside the very existance of such things was a bit weak, a gameplay mechanic with a flimsy justification, and no relevency to the storyline or how things play out. That said if they could have worked around that idea in the movie and made it seem more plausible, along with other similar "problems" with the game/concept it would have made the film more of a companion to the game as intended.

As it was, I consider the movie an epic failure. I suppose if you judge it totally on it's own merits it's not bad, but when you look at the game and try and view it as a prequel story it just doesn't work. Despite some common elements when it comes to the details they might as well be two seperate univeses.

Dead Space: Ignition? Like Stuntman: Ignition?

So it's a horror racing game?!?! FUCK YEAH!

Nothing for the PC again, huh?

EA, I am disappoint.

Maybe it's a... "tweequel"? I dunno, I'm just throwing that out there.

Interquel is usually the term for this.

Well, that's settled. I'm going to have to get LIVE now...

I'm happy that the decisions a 14 year old girl would make is ok behavior for a trained group of security personal in a horror anime.fine. Better decisions in the writing process could have been made if that means I'm bitching than yes i am. Copying techniques that have been beatin to death should be pointed out for hopes someone may take a original approach. Seriously the whole lets turn our back to the mutant on the floor is stupid no excuses buddy.

Frigging this.
There's obviously a huge lack of communication between the game developers team and the movie's director.
In fact this "Lightsaber" as I'd call it was the biggest disappointment. They didn't have to necessarily use mining tools just for the sake of connection towards the game but what the fuck was that?
Someone joins the atrocious battles with a Lightsaber alike device? I like the idea behind the origin of this device Therumancer. Interpretation of the device "Plasma Cutter" by the movie director.

But yeah that's only one of a whole lot of things.
Man I didn't even like the stiff animations.

I cannot understand anyone who has a decent sense for good films and played the game who actually likes this garbage.

Ah, I see. Though, seriously, "Interquel" sounds like a medication you'd take to stop nausea and vomiting.

Reread my post and try to understand it better.

Worgen:

It was cliché. Nobody is saying that it's the only example of a horror movie that's like that but just because a load of other films do it doesn't make it good. Anyway it's an average horror, not awful, not brilliant, just average.

Anyway the bridging game looks cool, I'm certainly going to keep an eye out for it on PSN.
