Best thing I've seen all day.
Aww, this is epic! Another reason why I must get myself some Stormtrooper armor.
Nice, but I'm not fond of SW. I would like to see more of these though.
This is single handedly the most awesomest thing I've seen all year. I'd love to see more.
That was awesome wish I could have been there
Made my day. Loved the acting also, pretty convincing. I'd love to see more of these improvisations.
That was awesome, now I have a sudden urge to watch Star Wars...I wonder why.
Simply epic. | |
Awesome. This is something I'd actually subscribe to if it was on youtube.
This is the second most epic street stunt I've ever seen.
Governments around the world should employ some people to do this now and then. So as to create some more fun and games in the every day life of normal people =3.
this made made my day | |
Fantastic! I love Improv Everywhere's work, this is one of there better ones XD
Why couldn't I live in New York? Fun stuff always seems to happen there....
Love the fact that princess leia is reading galactic rebelion for dumies. Now we know why the rebellion had so many problems.
Made my day, the people there must of been like "WTF."
I LOVE Improveverywhere, but their best stunt was still "Frozen Grand Central" http://improveverywhere.com/2008/01/31/frozen-grand-central/
Ask and ye shall receive: http://www.youtube.com/user/improveverywhere?blend=1&ob=4 And another great stunt by Improv Everywhere, always makes my day when they have a new one to share.
That. Is. Utterly. Amazing. /applaud
Damn it, why can't cool stuff like this when I visit NYC every summer?
Oh, yessss. This is great. Just seeing every single person on the subway just enjoying that street stunt.
Oh man, I'm still laughing from this!
That was amazing. And it is true. Darth Vader makes an appearance, a situation becomes x10 more awesome and less boring. Also, every camera in the area senses his presence, and jumps out of pockets into hands to capture the scene.
Lucky New yorkers, but we did get a man dressed as batman protesting on the palace.
Totally awesome, needless to say.
To the tune of Mars? Edit: Oop, nevermind, apparently haven't watched enough starwars. That guy sitting next to Leia seemed to know he was being filmed.
They entered the New York subway during the summer wearing masks and didn't asphyxiate? I am impressed.
Great idea, nicely done.
Love ImprovEverywhere. Really need to get my improv group to start doing some stuff out in the street...
that was great! | |
this is pretty damn awesome, they should do loads of scenes from different movies, that would be cool
That was freaking awesome.
Still like this one better -- because it could just happen with nobody expecting it:
Leia's the only one that had to, really. The rest just had to make sure they didn't laugh audibly.

Stormtroopers Arrest Princess Leia on New York Subway
A group of street improv artists made a New York City subway ride less miserable by reenacting a classic scene from Star Wars.
Street performance team Improv Everywhere is a group of thespians based in New York City devoted to "causing scenes" in public. Their seemingly-impromptu stunts are clever and entertaining, such as a particularly nifty re-enactment of Ghostbusters meant to raise awareness of a budget crisis at the NY Public Library.
The latest Improv Everywhere piece is a modern recreation of the iconic scene between Darth Vader and Princess Leia at the beginning of Star Wars, only this time it takes place on the New York City subway system instead of the Corellian Corvette Tantive IV. And Princess Leia is reading "Galactic Rebellion for Dummies" instead of feeding secret plans into R2-D2.
It's still a great watch, and one can only imagine that it made the hot, uncomfortable NYC subway trip all the more pleasant for the people involved. "The white walls and sliding doors on the train reminded us of the rebel ship from the movie," reads the IE site, "[and] we thought it would be fun to see how people would react to a surprise appearance by the iconic characters. We spread out the actors along the train line, staging it so they would enter the right car at the right time."
According to the in-depth report, the stormtrooper and Darth Vader costumes were on loan from College Humor, and - despite misjudging his helmet's height and banging his head on the train the first time around - Darth Vader stole the show: "One thing we learned is that almost every human will immediately take out their camera when they see Darth Vader ... [at] one point, a young guy came up to him and said, 'Sith Lord, would it be OK if I took your photo?'" It's a good thing he wasn't Force-choked on the spot.
The skit was re-enacted "several times" over the course of a few hours - "[if] you've got all those awesome costumes together, you better do it more than once!" - and went over swimmingly with all the crowds involved. It's a good thing, too, because this is absolutely hilarious. I don't even know how I'd react if Darth Vader got on board my morning train. Er, if I rode a morning train, that is.
Great job, guys. Next time, do the destruction of Alderaan. I'm sure nobody will really miss Battery Park.
